The University of Akron & the Department of Athletics are now accepting golfers & foursomes for the University of Akron 2008 Invitational. The event is held to benefit a summer tuition scholarship fund for Akron Zips student athletes, so they can continue to advance their degrees during the summer months.

The event will be held at Firestone Country Club on June 3rd, beginning at Noon. The entry fee per golfer is $400. If you or someone you know are able to help this cause by joining in the outing, please follow the link to the official site for the tournament. It is a VERY important cause to help out Zips student athletes through the summer. If you're able to do so, we hope you'll give serious consideration to participating. There is also a "dinner only" option available at the site.

We all generally agree that solid academics are key to having successful athletic programs that represent the University of Akron in the manner in which we can be proud. This is one opportunity to help continue to provide support for our scholar athletes as they take classes in the summer months. There will be other opportunities as well, such as the basketball and football outings. The University of Akron women extended its day one lead and the Zips men vaulted into first at the 2008 MAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Champions on day two include Cadeau Kelley (long jump), Cassie Schenck (steeplechase) and Tyler Sweet (javelin).
