In all honesty I just don't think he's good. But I'm in no way a football genius, or scout. He just didn't impress me in the spring game, but I guess in his defense none of the 3 did. Hopefully they step in up this fall.

All I know is that Coach Bowden will name a starting QB when he is comfortable doing so. And I'm confident that whoever that is, will be the best person for the job.

I watched the Spring Game -- and I also looked at the stats. How ya'll can say that Dalton didn't look good is what's puzzling to me. I don't have a "dog in this fight"... I want the starter to be whoever gives us the best chance to win football games. Period.

That tells me that the QB position is not in great shape.

No way. I bet you think the sun will set in the west tomorrow too.

Did you just recently move here from the South?

I agree with you on most of this, and Dalton did have good numbers during that Spring Game, but had some blatant errors too. What it means down the road, who knows.

Not to continue to horse.gif , but I just went back and looked at the stats again from the Spring Game. Remember that the QBs rotated with both teams..

Here are their stats (the left column is when they were playing with the 2's, right column is with/against the 1's:)

The ints Williams throws scare the crap out of me. Adjusted for the number of times he will throw in a real college game, he could average around three per game.

Moore takes too many sacks, but I'd rather have a sack than an int.

Pohl had the best day, but not by much. Two sacks worry me, but no ints. Tanner Price?

I don't think the #1 question Bowden has before him centers around stats. I think his decision will be more philosophical around the QB position for one year.

Well --- stats do lie sometimes... Dalton's INTs came against the first team defense (obviously -- VERY good for our Defense)... and I don't think Kyle got as many reps as they would have liked - with the way the game was set up, the 2nd half was over very quickly. And of course -- this was JUST the Spring Game.

The one thing Coach Bowden hates more than anything -- is MISTAKES. I've been saying this all along -- he wants a QB with a great grasp of the offense, great decision making skills, poise under pressure, AND great confidence. The QB MUST understand this offense's philosophy - and follow it. High percentage plays, quick tempo, get the ball into the hands of the playmakers, and NO turnovers. Whoever demonstrates the best of those abilities, will be our starter.

I thought several of dalton's interceptions were on plays
where he just threw the ball up for grabs when it became obvious that he was going to get sacked. Sacked meaning touched by a defender.

Pohl didn't have the best day. Williams threw the ball 50+ times. Get used to it. There will be picks running this offense.
Won't matter who is the QB. Main thing is a QB who can make quick decisions, throw over the middle on crossing patterns and throw the ball away when nothing is there. Can't have passes knocked down, can't take sacks. Moore had a couple of nice runs. That doesn't make this offense go. Rythmn passes and runs make this work. Not sacks, batted passes....

I watched Tino Sunseri struggle with this offense so bad last year at Pitt. Hopefully whoever starts can get rid of the ball quick. Quick releases are key. QBs that lock on receivers and take time to get rid of it struggle so bad in this kind of offense. If he can throw a deep ball once in a while it will really open it up as well. Basically, I'm going to be really miserable if we end up with our version of Tino Sunseri.

This shit is pissing me off yall do not know the offense nor understand it Pitt didn't run the offense that the zips are running. Also if you knew the offense and understood it you guys will not say half of the crap y'all say cause that's what it is big crap. Wrs and Qbs have to see the same thing because each play a wr can run three different routes depending on the coverage so don't critique when you don't know the answer. Akron offense is on trigonometry while y'all still trying to learn algebra. PLEASE STOP Thanks for your time GOD BLESS

It's still a very legitimate question to ask how a guy who was not a starter at a lower level could suddenly be considered good enough to be a starter at the highest level. Who was originally recruting him? Why didn't he just go to another FCS school to try to become a starter? Was anyone else pursuing him? Did we discover this "hidden gem", and everyone else was somehow asleep at the wheel?

I don't know much, so I still obviously have a lot of questions.

He's not trying to become a starter at the highest level, he's trying to become the starter here.

haha we're the lowest level at the highest level, if that makes any sense.

Honestly don't think Williams is good enough to get this teams wins. Just not impressed with his play that I've seen so far, and his college career as a backup.

Obviously, I've yet to see an Akron game in this offense, but it sounds pretty similar. Quick reads, high tempo, run as many plays as possible. Doesn't sound like Terry is going to use the read option, but besides that I see (hear) a lot of similarities. GOD BLESS
