The one that catches my eye is the Temple versus UCLA, if they get this game. I must confess I know nothing about Troy this year, but just going from my first impression I'm disappointed that CMU didn't get a "name" program. I'd like to see how the class of the MAC (such that it is) matches up. I'm a little biased in that I think that a win over a "name" team in a bowl, even if that team is actually not good, is better than the alternatives.

QUOTE I'm disappointed that CMU didn't get a "name" program. Dan LeFevour isn't. At least the MAC escaped the crazy scenario I saw forecast by a few sites heading into this weekend. I think with Notre Dame declining any bids, some folks had Ohio and BUGS playing in the Pizza Bowl. That would have been pretty silly. -------------------- "Build it, and they can't tear it down.......not for a good 15-20 years anyway."

With a little luck, I could see the MAC going 1-4 this bowl season.

With a little luck, I could see the MAC going 1-4 this bowl season. Temple can beat Army. And Marshall might just be bad enough to lose to OU. I agree...the MAC just might get a win this bowl season. Army still has to get past Navy this weekend and I don't see that happening. Temple will not beat a PAC 10 team. Marshall is bad, but I don't know if they are OU type bad. Keep your fingers crossed. Let's keep the embarrassment to a minimum. When the conference finally comes to it's senses and drops down to I-AA, we can talk about MAC teams in a national championship hunt instead of how foolish we will look in post season play. -------------------- "...you want it to be one way. I'm a little surprised CMU didn't get bid for Motor City Imeanpizza Bowl. Why wouldn't they go for the home town draw again? Seems to me like Marshall and OU would be a smaller market for them.
Little Caesars Pizza Bowl December 26th, Detroit MI, 5 pm, ESPN Marshall vs. Ohio This Bowl Could Be Great Because ... Marshall gets to go back to its old MAC days and pretend its the champion. Ohio gets to go back to Ford Field and pretend it won the MAC title against CMU. This is Marshall's first bowl game since joining Conference USA and just the second post-season game since 2002. This Bowl Could Suck Because ... Ohio plays tough, but it's not all that great. The Herd comes into the game limping after losing three of its last four and four of its last six. The Initial Knee-Jerk Reaction ... You have to really, really love bowl games to be pumped up for this. However, while neither team plays much offense, it should be a close, competitive battle between two teams that'll try. Scout.com is putting UCLA in. They don't think the Knights will beat Navy. GMAC Bowl January 6, Mobile AL 7 pm ESPN Troy vs. Central Michigan This Bowl Could Be Great Because ... two high-octane champions from non-BCS conferences should put on an amazing show. Levi Brown and Troy throw the ball as effectively as any non-BCS team outside of Houston, while Dan LeFevour will be close out his phenomenal career looking for his second bowl win. Expect lots of scoring, phenomenal quarterback play, and a game every bit as fun as any of the BCS matchups. This Bowl Could Suck Because ... this has been the worst of the bowl games by far over the last few seasons. In the last five bowls, the victors have won by a combined score of 282 to 75. Ball State didn't even show up last year in a 45-13 loss to Tulsa, while Bowling Green was a disaster in a 63-7 loss to the Golden Hurricane in the 2008 game. The Initial Knee-Jerk Reaction ... Troy's defense isn't like the Troy defenses of past years. Brown will bomb away for over 300 yards, but LeFevour should be spectacular in his final game. This should be the best GMAC Bowl since the classic 64-61 Marshall win over East Carolina in 2001. http://cfn.scout.com/2/557866.html |

I just LOVE the idea of the team from Tampa-St Pete heading to the passport office before their flight to The Great White North. That's one post-season that's sure to thrill boosters. And how about the Bruins from SoCal getting that big matchup with the Ex-Big East team in the nation's capitol. They'll be lucky if the family of their one player from the East Coast shows up.
And good luck to the Quackers! And CJ says Go Zona! |

I too was hoping for CMU to get a shot at a "name" program. Looking at their matchup, though, it isn't that bad.
It is after all the champions of the 10th and 11th rated contferences meeting each other. At least they aren't playing some team that backed into a bowl game. Troy may very well end up being the favorite in this game in public perception because they are playing closer to home and have been close to quite a few BCS upsets in recent years. Then again it is LeFevour's last game and the Chips just got ranked in the Top 25 this week. It is already being touted as the only matchup of conference champs outside of the BCS games. That alone will increase the game's popularity nationally, just nowhere near to the degree it would have been if it was Notre Dame and not Troy. I just have a feeling that if you like good close football games that come down to the end this may be one of your favorite bowls of the entire postseason. |

Troy is getting to the point of being a "name" school, at least as much as a Sun Belt school could be.
The MAC needs to have a good showing in the bowls. I don't think it will happen, but it would be nice to have a winning bowl record for the conference. |
