Sad...very sad. If he would have spent his time studying instead of stuff like this he probably could have been a decent student with a chance to play football later in life. I'm guessing the time he should have been in the weight room and library was spent up to no good. Hate to see things like this, but glad he didn't end up here and put a stain like this on the program.

This should pretty much lock up a scholarship offer from K.e.n.t State.

In ancient times, people who did things like this would do the right thing and kill themselves in a last ditch effort to save their honor.

The minute he/they laid their hands on a woman with violence, any and all chances at honor were gone.

What a waste. The only positive in his life was football. Who knows how far he could have gone if he had gotten away from his old hood and off to a school somewhere with the right conditions to encourage his growth, though Fork Union didn't work out. Even under the best of conditions, he still might not have made it. Some kids just get dug into a deep hole from an early age that no one can ever help them climb out of.

I took a lot of abuse in the original Howard thread, but I will say now is: You can take the boy out of the hood, but you can't take the hood out of the boy. A very sad story from the beginning. frown.gif

How pathetic. I'm so glad he was never a Zip.

Besides, he couldn't hold Chisholm's jock strap. Garfield RB Tyson Gulley relegated Howard to picking splinters out of his butt during the Ohio North-South All-Star Game.

We are talking about North Canton. Are there any bad "hoods" in North Canton?? I guess I could feel some sympathy for someone who may be forced to steal to feed their family. But the sexual assault goes beyond where I can muster up any sympathy. I hope it was a case of mistakedn identity....otherwise I say "lock him up".

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe he was living with a coach from North Canton but had grown up in a much rougher area. Anyone else remember reading that? It's a shame for any human being to be a wasted life like that. I guess I can never comprehend the, "You have something that I want so I'll take it from you by force" mentality. Work hard. Get the things you want.

I remember Tressel telling the kid to renege on his Zips commitment and attend a prep school so he could play for Ohio State.

Didn't work out.

laughing.gif That's right. If you're smart, you can get away with lazy. If you're a hard worker, you can get away with stupid. But if you're both stupid and lazy? Your only hope is hitting the lottery.

That's exactly what I was thinking about when I read the story. At least he would have had a chance to build relationships with a school, and maybe create a good foundation in his life if he had stayed with his original commitment.

But, does it really surprise anyone that Tressel was likely thinking about himself?
