Great recruiter and Ohio coaches love him
Has Akron ties and comes from a good coaching tree. Not my first choice but might be a great hire. -------------------- Half Buck, Half Zip, All Man.

Some on here won't like it, but I'd be ok with it. The performance of OSU had more to do with all the missing players then his coaching ability.

Yeah, he'll be missing those players (and more) if he comes here. I don't agree that it's an excuse. We need someone who gets the most out of who he's got. |

Yeah, he'll be missing those players (and more) if he comes here. I don't agree that it's an excuse. We need someone who gets the most out of who he's got. The first step has been taken. Next is getting the right new leader. Personally, I think Fickel would be a great pick if Akron can get him. He knows how to run a top program, has the x and o experience, and should be a strong recruiter. He was an incredible high school wrestler and an OSU football player. He must be a tremendosusly driven competitor. IMO, if he were to make good selections for his assistant coaches, he could begin to turn things around quickly. For those critcizing spiking the ball on third down at the end of the game today, even the announcers were not sure that that was not a decision made by the qb on the field. Regardless, I think Fickel would be a great add. Anybody dreaming about Stoops or other big name coaches needs to be more realistic. That aint gonna happen. Fick would be a huge move for this program. |

He will make More as an asst at OSU than the HC here. It depends how badly he wants to be a HC -------------------- Half Buck, Half Zip, All Man.

I'm not sure how I feel about Fickel. I would prefer to not make a rush hire just to make a hire. I will say that I didn't like how all this Urben Meyer stuff came up when Fickel was still coach. Give Fickel a chance to coach the rest of the season and see if he's still interested in the job after the season. Talk about classless. Then again, it is Ohio State and they are good about being classless and not giving a s*** about what others say and think of them. Ohio State also has the balls to go after someone who wasn't running a clean program at Florida and has health issues. If UM were to get the job, I don't see him being around three years before he leaves. I did enjoy Michigan beating Ohio State today.

Wasn't it yesterday that someone said that Fickell would stay on Meyer's staff at osu? Would anyone in their right mind take this place as their first hc job?

An ambitious coach needs to demonstrate THEY make a difference in a program. Taking a 2-22 program makes it pretty easy to show improvement. Some coaches and their agents will surely consider Akron a palce where they can make an impact in 3-5 years and then move up to a more notable program. I'm okay if we are a stepping stone program. If the coach moves on, it means he was successful here. |
