A coach isn't going to give a full playbook to a kid he isn't even sure he wants on the team or not next year. Darn you, you're on to my crazy theory. Shhhhhh.... -------------------- ![]() "One original thought is worth a thousand mindless quotings"--Diogenes of Sinope |

Goodman looks like a man amongst boys there. Good Lord is NY high school football bad, but Goodman looks like the real deal. We have a strong class of QB's coming in, I'm pretty confident we'll find at least one gem amongst them. Exactly how I feel. As much as I would like to see Clayton Moore or Nicely as the starter, we have like 7 QB's if I remember correctly. Could be an exaggeration, but wouldn't you think that at least ONE OF THEM would stand out and get this team some dadgum wins! Same goes with the RB's, I'm going to have favorites but I'll take wins anyways we can get them. Imagine what would happen if we have a young QB emerge this year as a star. A Jeremy Lin of the Zips if you will, leading the team to a 3-0 start and 3-1 record after four games haha. Zips fans would be going nuts, with the school and entire city crazy about football again! We want a winner and are desperate to see it! Even with a small glimpse of success I believe the fans will flock to support the team...oh what a dream scenario. But in all honesty I'd be happy with a 2-2 start, but even happier if we find a QB that can get the ball in the endzone! -------------------- It's okay....we'll be better next year

Moore, Nicely, D'Orazio, Pohl, Watson, Franco, Goodman, and technically Dylan Potts was a QB. So that is at least 8 and I could be forgetting someone. I believe there has been talk of an additional transfer from Texas, and We have have a preferred walk on QB on the team as well. We could have as many as 11 QB's on the team. -------------------- "At least we know what the hell we is...we's a ZIP!" - Butchie Washington

Coach Bowden is doing everything he can to fill the most important position on the field with the right player by not limiting his options (this year and beyond). We were limited last season.-------------------- ![]() "One original thought is worth a thousand mindless quotings"--Diogenes of Sinope |

We were limited last season. QB's are typically the best athletes on their respective teams. The more QB's the better. QB Jeff Sweitzer returned punts back-in-the-day. Bruce Keys (LB) and Wayne Wade (S) were HS QB's. John Harpring was a HS QB, as was WR Nick Sparks. Maybe Clayton Moore is our "Edelmann" and finds a spot more suitable than QB? Hopefully we fill a lot of holes beyond QB with some of these guys. |

We were limited last season. Absolutely! Granted, the team had many weaknesses last year but the QB play was nearly unwatchable. I'll bet Coach Bowden finds a playmaker out of the bunch and that by itself will make the Zips a very much improved team in '12. I cannot wait to see who emerges. -------------------- Bitter member of the venomous minority.

If Sparks didn't have the toe injury, Charlie Frye may never have seen the field? I remember being at the game when Sparks hurt his toe. I always wondered how he never got a chance to take his starting spot back. -------------------- "At least we know what the hell we is...we's a ZIP!" - Butchie Washington

I had a most fortunate opportunity to speak with Coach Bowden recently and I specifically asked him about the QB situation. He said ideally he’d like to see one of the top 3 from last year’s depth chart (PN7, CM8, ZD11) claim this year’s starting spot (although he admitted ZD11 could very well end up on the other side of the ball). But I also got the clear indication that if none of them perform well enough, any of the newcomers will have a shot. He mentioned that he’s bringing in a player from Texas who knows how to run the system he’s installing at UA, and he could be a “safety net” if all else fails. The system, by the way (to which NZF has alluded), will look a lot like the offenses of WVU/Houston/Oklahoma St (all three schools have been visited by Coach and portions of his UA/UNA staff over recent years. Thanks for the report...I think that's already more info obtained directly from a football coach than we ever got from RI or JDB. Good job! |

I would like to see if Nicely can somehow make a comeback for his senior season. He did not get a fair shake with Ianello in the QB 'competition' last year. -------------------- [SIZE=7][FONT=Geneva] ziptex
