I doubt if it could also hold an acceptable basketball arena. The fans in the front rows would be inundated by the smell of horse @*%#, and the view lines would not be favorable. Maybe something could be worked out with Can't State. laughing.gif

Well there is a whole lot of unused area at Rolling Acres. Besides that it says Akron "area" so Barberton, Green, Stow, and Tallmadge are all possiblilities.

Need roughly 120 acres. More than likely, more than that. I see RA as a possibillity in Akron. Otherwise, it will be in one of the burbs.

Put it in Cuyahoga Falls where the old Ascot Park horse racing facility used to be (State and Bath Roads).

Ascot Park is now a business park, not sure if the little bit of land left is enough to hold Thistledown. I assume that Thistledown would keep their full mile track.

Thistledown currently sits next to a once-great mall that was ruined. Wouldn't it be ironic if they tried to move it to the site of another mall that is ruined?

If you need over 100 acres, Rolling Acres couldn't ever work. It's only about 40 acres, I believe.

How about behind the old Firestone complex? Other than the canal, I don't think there is nothing back there.

So there is something back there? Don't let doomsday people know, they will be lining up to make a tent city back there.

The city just applied to the EPA to have that area designated as a Brownfield Development Area. There is quite a bit of ground contamination there, so what ever is built there is really limited.

Lots of details on a potential Thistledown move to Akron-Canton Airport property in Green:

Airport would defer racino decision to Green

A concrete company took over the old train yard.
