Green chemistry and biomimicry science making gains at The University of Akron? Looks like the school is joining the Green transformation -- and hopefully leading the way. Are they teaching undergrads these principals, I hope? They will be the basic fabric of the engineer's toolkit in the not very distant future. Any engineers wondering about this should start with the work of Michael Braungard and McDonough Design Chemistry. Required reading is Braungart and Will McDonough's "Cradle to Cradle" if you haven't already read it. Cheers. |

"The University of Akron will house the nation's first baccalaureate program in corrosion engineering. The program is designed train engineers to understand and manage the effects of corrosion, which cost the U.S. economy about $279 billion a year, according to a 2002 Federal Highway Administration report." -------------------- |

First and only. This has the potential to grow into a major program. City of Akron WiFi being turned on
I remember thinking that UA's existing WiFi played into this somehow, but now it's looking like a separate thing. UA will need to replace their wireless infrastructure in the near future. They were way ahead of the curve a few years back, but now everybody else has caught up and UA's technology is dated compared to everyone who has installed a network after them. |

Bridge from Quaker to Campus coming.
UA and DMTC holding contest for first ever all titanium pedestrian bridge. This is very interesting and could be another landmark for the campus. -------------------- "At least we know what the hell we is...we's a ZIP!" - Butchie Washington

I've been campaigning for a bridge ever since UA announced that they took over management of Quaker Square.
This news makes me happy. I hope that UA's engineering school wins the competition. |

I've been campaigning for a bridge ever since UA announced that they took over management of Quaker Square. This news makes me happy. I thought it would make several people happy. (Including me). Specific details are that it has to attach to the second floor of the "hotel" dorm rooms as well as have a ground entry on the Quaker side. Span the 200 ft while maintaining clearance height for trains and have a ground entry on the eastern side of tracks. -------------------- "At least we know what the hell we is...we's a ZIP!" - Butchie Washington
