"Playing for his father, Gene, the 5-foot-8 guard poured in 2,680 career points, ranking him third all-time in the state, 34 points better than current NBA superstar LeBron James (2,646)."

When I read this, the first thing that popped into my head was "and I bet Lebron is wishing he would have scored those extra 34 points so he could be bouncing around coaching jobs instead of being where he is now." laughing.gif

I think the Missouri Valley Conference could be considered a step up over the MAC in basketball.

I think they should rename the M.A.C. Center as "the springboard". I don't even know how the program stays at the level they do while these others schools keep plucking our coaches.

You could call it the "cradle of coaches", but I think Miami football has that trademarked.

I think the revolving door will eventually catch-up to Can't State. They can't possibly continue to hire stellar coaches based on little experience. There is an iCoach out there for them yet.

I too am grateful for the stability that KD brings via his loyalty.

The Record-Courier has learned that Bradley University (Ill.) has hired Can't State University's Geno Ford as their new men's basketball coach.

The whirlwind romance moved fast.

Ford told the Record-Courier on Sunday night that he was about to board a flight for Peoria, Ill., where the Bradley campus is located. At that time, Ford said he did not have a contract offer.

The Cessna Citation left Akron Fulton International Airport at 6:58 p.m.

Within 2 1/2 hours, Ford’s face was on the Bradley University website, introducing him as the Braves' new head coach.

Ford succeeded Jim Christian at Can't State. Christian left the program after accepting the head coaching position at Texas Christian University. Ford guided Can't State to back-to-back regular-season Mid-American Conference championships - a feat that had not been accomplished by any MAC team in more than 20 years.

Ford was named the league's Coach of the Year the past two years.

A replacement for Ford has yet to be named by Can't State.

No contract terms were reported as of 10 p.m. on Sunday night

I for one appreciate the loyalty Coach Dambrot has shown here at Akron macc.gif . 13 miles to the east there is no such thing. one has to wonder how quickly Shaka will be leaving VCU

and ( a depressing thought) will Can't go after Jeff boles? Please dont do that to us Jeff!

Shocking, but the Valley Conference is superior to the MAC. Now, we need a 'springboard' icon for Can't State.

Ewww! No! Boals will not accept a job at Can't. He should be able to do better than that. If not now, maybe in another year.
Maybe Butler, xavier, or VCU when their coaches cash on multi million dollar contracts elsewhere.

I think they should name it: "The Place that Soon-to-Be Mediocre/Bad Coaches Leave as Quickly as Humanly Possible"

"Cradle of Coaches? Puh-LEEZ...

Where was Gary Waters...the guy that flopped @ Rutgers... this NCAA tourney? Watching the Zips on TV, alongside Jim Christian, Gino Ford and Stan Heath.

An interesting stat for two of these "Legends" - Christian and Heath went a combined 2-30 in league play this year.

At Akron, we keep our winning Head Coaches. Assistants depart, and subsequently have tremendous success at the highest level of D-1 basketball (Shaka - VCU, Boals - Ohio State, Paris - Wisconsin)

Ford had a great salary and a great returning nucleus @ K.e.n.t. (losing one senior)...and yet he headed on the first train for Bradley? As AI would say - "Bradley? We talkin' about Bradley? BRADLEY?!

Ford saw the writing on the wall...the MAC East is the Zips playground for the next 2+ seasons. His stock was only going to plummet. Like those who preceded him, he knew better than to hang around.

Best news for the Zips - Laing Kennedy - an AD that actually knew how to hire mid-major hoops coaches - is gone.

Can't wait to hear Thunder Dan Hipsher's name surface as a leading candidate. rock.gif

Great Post!

I'd love to hear what Rutgers, Arkansas, and TCU have to say about their decisions to go after Ken+ coaches who they felt were ready to make big things happen at a higher level.
