With our boys done for the season is basketball..How about some football!! The spring game is right around the corner. How many players did we have on the spring roster last year? I count 91 on the roster currently (including 7 QBs!)

Getting to know the team

First piece of troubling news I have read/heard since coach Bowden was hired:

“I didn’t mention a single quarterback because they’ve all been about the same,” Bowden said. “I would have love to have seen one QB stand far above the others, but I think they’ve all been good solid leaders, and none has jumped above the others. We’re going to give them the benefit of the doubt and hopefully they’ll give us the benefit of the doubt, too.”

I had the same feeling. Its just so hard to believe that there isn't some level of skill there. You just look at what some of them accomplished in high school and its hard to understand how they could all look so average in a workout situation..... someone will step out.

There are two reasons why I'm not worried. The first is that nobody's done any drills yet. The coaches haven't even seen any of them throw a ball. On-field skills will separate the QBs from each other, not leadership skills which we know they lack.

The second reason I'm not worried is that the freshmen haven't even arrived in yet. Coach Bowden's QB recruits are not on campus and I've had the feeling for a while that one of them will be able to step up.

I'm not worried at all. It's March.

Well technically I'm worried about a lot of things. OU making a tourney run, the Cavs not making the playoffs, Zips basketball next year, Indians and Browns sucking it up next year...

But as far as Akron football goes...I have no worries

What about the apocalypse scheduled for December? You worried about that?

Thanks for posting the video, Zach.

I can't imagine anyone who loves the Zips watching that interview without a grin on their face. It's a shame your head coach's personality and charm can't win games...we would be pre-season favorites to win the MAC.

I just can't stop listening to this guy and I find it hard to believe that he hasn't already done so much for the program that we have to see success. He's made me a big time believer. Everything just seems to be falling perfectly into place. I can't help but think MAC Championships and bowl games!!

I can't wait till the Spring game and God willing outside in the stadium!

Go ZIPS!!!

Great interview!...but I'm guessing coach Bowden has never given a bad one.
I'm buying whatever he is selling.
So enthusiastic and knowledgeable, good combination for us fans.
We are so lucky to have him.

"If a duck can pull a truck, hitch him up", I never heard that one. biggrin.gif Tebow should wear that shirt.

Hopefully we can keep the expectations in check for this year. I think there are going to be some disappointed players come August. TB has no reason to play anyone just because they played last year. Will the team be more competetive this year? We have to assume just because there will be some direction from the sideline. This team should get better from August through November even if the wins aren't there.

Under a new coaching staff, if a freshman and a senior are playing even in camp, generally you play the freshman. The opposite is true for an established coach.

However, coach Bowden has said that he would like to redshirt as many freshmen as he can without sacrificing competitivenes. Don't expect a lot of his recruits to play this year unless they blow the current guys away.

I am interested to see how well the older players respond to a real head coach.
