After the MLS Superdraft, a reporter sat down with coach Porter to discuss the impact and how the program will go forward in 2011. Beside the poor grammar and word usage (what is a "common stigma" anyway?), the author gets Porter to state that he will bring in two new players beside his 2010 recruiting class to supplement what returns. I have a strong anticipation, that those two players will be at the Stiles Center for the College Prep Camp coming up -- this coming weekend, I believe.

Not particularly badly, of course there will probablybe a couple of losses more next year but I expect the Socceroos will go deep into the NCAA tourney.

If there's one person right now to trust in keeping the Zips at the top, its Porter. He'll bring in a recruiting class that should be able to maintain that level of excellence we've come to expect. Let's not forget we've lost a significant number of players to the MLS draft in recent years and every year we seem to have gotten better. Porter will have the new recruits well entrenched into our system and I expect another exciting year. Like zip37 said, maybe a few more losses due to the lack of experience, but I firmly believe our style of play and the level of talent we bring in will keep things going. It will, however, be interesting to see how things go come tournament time.

Most of the players we lost were underclassmen (Kitchen a true freshman) so how much experience did we lose? It's the system and coach baby. Time to reload!! I said this years ago on a string about MAC football and the "cradle of coaches" tag.......A great coach and system will attract players and result in consistent WINS.

I honestly don't think we'll be down much at all. How many bench players were subbed in during the season? LOTS. How many contributed? A few, but more will be given the chance. One thing I do know is Gabe Genovesi is possibly one of the fastest players in the NATION. He apparently holds the Wisconsin state record for the 400. I don't know how Porter intends to use that speed, but him and Mattocks up front would go well with some through balls. wink.gif He's also 6'2".

With Mattocks, Speas, Caldwell, Meves, Barson, Brenes, and Stevenson returning, along with the recruits and transfers we'll get, I'm expecting another championship; I'm sure Porter is also.

During several practices last year, Genovese was playing wing back.

Really? That's interesting. He is definitely listed as a forward, and I was wondering why in another thread you made a potential line-up for next year and had him as an outside-back. As things stand now, we are going to have about 7 forwards on the roster, which seems a bit unnecessary to me (but what do I know?). It would make sense for some of them to play other positions if they are capable of doing so.

Speed plays well in the back, especially in Porter's system with the wings pressed so high. Imagine a faster Kofi. Scary stuff for other teams

Is he left footed?

Yes, and Tulloch has some height too. He doesn't look bad with the ball either.

You throw Genovesi out there with Tulloch and teams will have some speed AND height disadvantages.

I'm really not worried at all for next year, I think our bench this past year could have made the Elite Eight on their own.

Notice that Porter prefers the left footed back on the right side and vice versa.

The formation is tactically aggressive with the backs building runs toward the middle for a shot rather than running to the touch for the cross. To that point, I hope Yedlin has a good left.

Wing MFs are more for crossing ala Mikey Nanchoff on the left.
