Ford had a great salary and a great returning nucleus @ K.e.n.t. (losing one senior)...and yet he headed on the first train for Bradley? As AI would say - "Bradley? We talkin' about Bradley? BRADLEY?! I agree. I can't believe there is any difference between Bradley and Can't. DI coaches and corporate executives are very similar. Both take jobs, stay a year or two and leave never having to live their mistakes. Maybe Ford doesn't see a bright future for the Flashes....I hope he is right. -------------------- "...you want it to be one way. But it's the other way." --Marlo Stanfield, The Wire

Congrats to the U of A for haivng the foresight to keep KD under contract. Congrats to KD for knowing that the U of A gave him a second chance on coaching at the university level and for being loyal to the U of A.
People always think that the grass is greener on the other side. Then, when there get there, they don't realize how good they had it. GO ZIPS! |

Congrats to KD for knowing that the U of A gave him a second chance on coaching at the university level and for being loyal to the U of A. I'm not sure he has many other options other than loyalty. He could probably pick up a gig like Bradley or something like that, but there is no difference between Bradley and Akron. He wouldn't be taken as seriously at a school like Bradly as he is at Akron for a lot of reasons. KD has is great at Akron and isn't going anywhere. His team wins. Even when they don't win, not many people are paying attention. There are a number of people who, for whatever reason, are fascinated by him coaching LBJ in high school. The CMU issue wouldn't be ignored at another school. He makes a ton of money for a MAC coach, especially an Akron coach. If KD left Akron, he would be subject to the meat grinder that is college coaching. He isn't going to do that. Being King at Akron is a lot better than risking becoming a joker at another school. Some of you can yell at me now claiming I pick on KD. I'm not. I think my analysis is fair and is the kind of thing that would be written in the media if Akron had a decent media with decent writer instead of the Terry Pluto knock offs. -------------------- "...you want it to be one way. I don't think either of you touched on one very important factor. Keith is an Akron guy. Grew up in Akron, played sports at the U of A, and got his first break in basketball coaching from an Akron coach. He has strong ties to Akron and this University that simply don't exist in most other situations where you have a consistent winner at a mid-level school who may have opportunities to go elsewhere. |

When KD was on the Ken Carman show last Monday .. Ken asked him about Shaka "wanting to stay at VCU" .. KD's answer was (paraphrasing) "sometimes you want to stay somewhere .. but you just can't. Especially for a young coach."
A fundamental difference between Ford today and KD today is where they are in their careers. How old are their kids .. more simply: age. Geno is young, has a young family .. and doesn't have those deep ties to his (now former) employer. He owes it to himself, his wife & kids to advance his career as best he can with good decisions .. based on the basketball evidence, opportunity and .. yes. The finances. KD's in a different spot than Geno. Coles in much the same spot. It's a different time in their careers, thank heavens. Good for Bradley .. they got a very good coach who could be a great one. The interesting thing to watch will be if the new AD at Can't State can channel Laing Kennedy and make the right choice again. Kennedy never missed. Go Zips! -------------------- In case you missed it: The glory years for Zips hoops are NOW .. and they've just begun.

Like those who preceded him, he knew better than to hang around. This was my first thought as well. Geno to Bradley? Really? He knows the Zips are going to dominate over the next two years. -------------------- Terry Bowden. Keith Dambrot. Rick Rembielak. Chuck Amato. Terrell Buckley. Jim Tressel. Bradley is a great gig .. in a town that supports the Braves as the main game in town. And with the happenings of the past weekend & last year's final four .. we might be entering a new golden era of college hoops where teams like Butler, VCU and even Akron & Bradley can compete with and beat the supposed "elite" teams. Stable programs and rosters can win the tight games because of trust and continuity that the one year reload teams don't have. The Bulldogs & now Rams are showing that it can be done. Geno can win at Bradley. -------------------- In case you missed it: The glory years for Zips hoops are NOW .. and they've just begun.

As Zip Watcher said, Bradley's a fine gig. But I still think this is embarrassing for the MAC. -------------------- Terry Bowden. Keith Dambrot. Rick Rembielak. Chuck Amato. Terrell Buckley. Jim Tressel. How ya like dem apples, Terry Pluto?! This is AKRON!

Video Tour of Bradley's new arena.
Gorgeous, $50-million facility. Only seats 4,200. I was a bit surprised by that. As far as a renovation goes, maybe that gives the JAR's capacity some perspective? -------------------- Terry Bowden. They don't use that facility for basketball. They play their basketball games at Carver Arena which seats around 11,500. |
