@johnnyzip84, I'm speculating that your speculation is pretty intelligent. wink.gif

Based on KD's statement of going after only 5s and 4s in this class, only two of the eight players identified in the first post of this thread fit that description (Nigel Hayes and Isaiah Johnson). So there should be changes coming in the offers list.

Should Akron make a run at Willie Moore and Donovan Jack?

http://www.post-gazette.com/stories/sports...bailout-630141/

I know we already targeted Willie Moore in 2012...just curious.

We don't need Willie's services, IMO. But we could really use the 6'9" Donovan Jack.

Just saw sophomore guard Jordan Sibert and sophomore forward J.D. Weatherspoon were transferring from OSU. Any chance we can get either one of them? Treadwell might need some help replacing Zeke in 2 years, and Weatherspoon is a 6'6' PF that could work out.

Nothing screams mid mid-major more than a 6'6" power forward.

Weatherspoon was ranked by scout.com as the nation's 37th best PF in the 2009 HS graduating class. He missed some games at tOSU due to academic problems.

In his two seasons at tOSU, the 6-6, 215-pound Weatherspoon played in 35 games. He averaged 2.7 points and one rebound per game and averaged 59 percent shooting, going 37-for-63. He averaged about six minutes of court time per game playing behind Jared Sullinger, Deshaun Thomas, etc.

Weatherspoon appears to be the type of player who gets short minutes on a Final Four-level national power program that's loaded with talent, but who could be a major contributor at a quality mid-major program.

Sibert is rumored to be transferring to Dayton. Weatherspoon has tremendous athleticism, but doesn't have much of an offensive game. Not sure who is after him.

kd really needs to land a decent big man.i don't think we will ever get a guy like zeke again, but we need to get a good 4&5.the only thing i learned from ohio run in the ncaa tourney is you can get pretty far without a good big man.you better have all five guys be able to score though.it wil be interesting to see what kd will do. the team next year has nobody coming off the bench with a bad ass attitude like treadwell.if we get zeke ,or treadwell in foul trouble we will be hurting.

A 6-6, 190-pound "scoring minded inside-outside wing that likes to shoot the three pointer" sounds more like a wing than a power forward to me.

It looks like the story at the site DIG linked to is is about a year old, based on the comments. Here is a more recent story. It looks like he has grown in both size and stature.

Cheatham, who is 6 feet 8, averaged 12.5 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.7 blocks last season for the Warriors, according to the FAVC website. He was first-team all-FAVC West.

Cheatham has also received interest from UC, Dayton and other Mid-American Conference schools.

Turns out that Kwan (not Kwame) Cheatham is on a growth spurt. He may have been 6-6, 190 pounds in the previous link I posted, but he's listed at 6-8, 200 pounds in a more recent listing on Rivals. And he's the fifth player listed among Ohio's top 75 HS prospects here.

Better yet, someone who actually saw Kwan last week on the UA campus says he looks more like 6-9, 220 pounds now with a muscular physique similar to Tree. Best scenario is a cross between Tree and Harney -- tough rebounder with smooth moves to the hoop.

Two years ago, Cheatham was a raw, skinny, 6-3 kid who wasn't getting much attention from any colleges. Two years later, he's 6-9, 200+ pounds and popping up on the radar of schools like Dayton, Cincinnati and Xavier. Cheatham visited the UA campus Friday and his HS coach says he received an offer from the Zips, which is believed to be his first offer.

Cheatham is currently ranked by Rick Bolus in the third best 25 of Ohio’s Top Rising Prospects For 2012-2013. But Bolus ranks only three bigs above him who are 6-9 or taller. It will be interesting to see if he moves up in the Bolus rankings this season.

All reports say that he plays more like a wing than a power forward, which is understandable considering how small he was just two years ago. In this respect, he's similar to Cameron Black (Can't Roosevelt, BGSU), who grew from a 3-point shooting wing into a 6-10 power forward/center over his last three years of HS. Scouting reports say that Cheatham needs to develop an inside game to take advantage of his growing height and weight.

The Zips coaching staff obviously believes in Cheatham's upside or they wouldn't have offered him.

One clarification to my earlier post: Cheatham is built more like Harney than Tree. He's muscular, but not built like a Tree. smile.gif He doesn't rebound with ferocity but is more of a finesse player ..... so far.
