UH OH.....I knew the hillbilly references were going to start coming anytime !!! I was born in West Virginia and I am looking forward to any hillbilly humor this hire may bring on this board. I think everyone already knew you were from West Virginia. -------------------- Half Buck, Half Zip, All Man.

Should be Jeff Bowden as WR coach, and Tommy Bowden as OC! No and no. Didn't even know there was a Jeff Bowden. Let's not bring in a tired cast because their last name is Bowden. Personally, I think we got the best of the Bowdens. Brighter days ahead. Bro, just hope Terry doesn't bring in his Appalachian black-sheep brother who uses the more formal last-name pronunciation... From footballscoop: Akron: We have confirmed what we told you we expected to happen before Christmas. Terry Bowden is bringing offensive coordinator Alan Arrington, Jeff Bowden and A.J. Milwee to Akron.

If he takes after his father, it also won't be long until you hear him say "dadgummit". It was only the first press conference but he came so close... “When I go to bed tonight,I’m going to think about how we can win a dad-gum ballgame. We need to win two,one more than last year.” -------------------- Bitter member of the venomous minority.

How about Jason Taylor as an advisor or position coach since he will be available now? He is a good speaker and motivator as well and his name and reputation certainly would do nothing but help recruiting.

thanks JZ84, I was going to keep the link up, but thought M(OH) fans were laughing at us like the Can't, Ball State, and others have...When I googled John Pont, I didn't find the result I wanted. So I deleted the original post real quick. Here's what is was, since it's safe to share it now: Pont to Akron? |

Do any of you think that Vince Okruch could be the next defensive coordinator? How would you feel about that? I know it has been discussed in the past with quite a bit of board support, but a lot has changed in the meantime.

How about some input from someone that knows the guys headed your way?
As a UNA/Auburn fan/booster of both, you're getting some good southern fella's. Alan Arrington (Tank) is high energy and knows how to motivate. Think he'll be listed as the OC, even though CTB will call most of the plays during the game. They get along well, and Tank was the OC at UNA when CTB was hired 3 years ago. Recruits well, and has some excellent pipelines to JC's. Some of his motivational speeches might be a bit colorful, so if you don't like to hear it, then don't sit in the first 30 rows. AJ Milwee, great kid, great family. His Aw Shucks demeanor is fantastic. He could really play, and if he's half the coach that I think he'll be, you're in for a great surprise. Jeff Bowden is probably the least known of the coaching Bowden's, and will do well with the WR's. Probably the most "hillbilly" of the bunch, but a heck of a nice guy. You'll catch him riding around in his 1972 Chevy pickup without AC all the time There are a couple more rumored to be headed that way, not sure if any of the rest are "official" yet. Saw John Pont's name mentioned a post or two back, have met him and talked at length. Seemed like a great kid with good coaching lineage. Was only at UNA briefly before having a chance to head to Miami late last summer. Let's not leave out Bobby. If he's in town and you have a chance to meet him, do it. Outstanding coach, outstanding man. Had the pleasure of spending some quality time with him away from the public, and he's just like your favorite uncle (or dad or granddad). Hate to know that he won't be in/around North Alabama as much now. Dadgummit. |

Footballscoop.com - Akron: We hear Terry Bowden has offered the defensive coordinator job to Chuck Amato. John Pont (Miami Ohio defensive intern / linebackers) will have a spot on the staff and we hear Ben Murphy, director of football operations at North Alabama, will serve as his director of football operations.

Beat me to it by 15 minutes Zach
Let the jokes begin. Between Bowden and Amato, if this doesn't elevate the level of expectations, I don't know what will. Amato also likely brings recruiting ties that could help us in our last minute bid for a respectable class. |
