Whats up fellas, once again I apologize for my long absence from the site, no I didn't give up on the Zips, I've just been swamped at work again the past few weeks. Sorry I never got around to posting that analysis of the Can't game defensive playcalling that I promised. I did look at the tv tape but since it's well past that disaster I'll just be brief in saying yes I still believe that one, as well as Cinci, rests squarely on playing calling, defensive for Can't, offensive for Cinci. To be brief, defensively the game plan seemed to be to put pressure on the then fairly new QB Edelman by bringing 6 on almost every down. My problem with that was the fact that we completely underestimated the talent Can't had in its recieving core and the ability of Edelman to get presnap reads, and were not blitzing linebackers, but rather our SS and Rover as the Zips call it in Mackey and Pace the whole game off the edge. This created a serious problem because apparently Flemming thought it was okay to man up our linebackers on Can't's slot recievers. If you want a perfect example of what I'm talking about, watch Can't's last touchdown of the first half. We bring the safeties off the edge, Kevin Grant is matched man on the slot, and gets burnt like toast. No offense to Kevin Grant, but he's never in a million years going to cover a reciever in man coverage. Why Flemming though he and the other linebackers could is beyond me, and this led to multiple breakdowns which accounted for a healthy chunk of that 400 yards passing. Also, when you bring the DB's off the edge like that and the DON'T get to the quarterback, once a mobile guy like Edelman starts scrambling around and getting to the second level the safties aren't there. The LB's are. Grant and others got shook out of their shoes all day. Poor, poor planning by the defensive staff and a terrible underestimation of what we could do against Can't's talent. We were the more talented team like I said, the staff just put the players in horrible positions all day long and failed to make adjustments from the apparent original game plan when they needed to be made. The result was 37 points and an embarrassing loss.
Enough about all of that crap though, on to the Sweaters. Zips finally get their heads out of their asses and rebound. Zips 20 Sweaters 10 |

This is a tough call...Miami is BAD team this year. But, given their history and past success against us, I'm gonna have to go with ZIPS 42, SWEATERS 6.

Zips lose 31 - 17 in front of 7k. Offense makes mistakes and turns ball over. Special teams blows it with botched punts and missed field goals. Stupid penalties will continue to kill drives, and our defense will get tired due to being out on the field much of the game. Can't should have been a wakeup call, but we saw the same crap a week after. Sorry, Miami is bad, but so are we.

A beautiful night for football, Zips win 27-10. Team is ready for the stretch run. Thanks for the updaes ITZ, good to have you back. It seems like Penn State did the same thing as Can't in a few crucial situations as well, got our LBs lined up against their speed guys and burned us.
-------------------- Go Zips!

I've been doing my best to read up on the turds to be able to throw down in this thread.
I think it's a pretty even match up. I see us stolling down the field a couple times early and the sideline thinking they are on easy street................then all of a sudden here come those aholes. Joey Card got a big writeup in the Repository, so he'll be enfuego, better go to the other side........many other turds from NEOhio? Will they have a couple hundred in attendance? I'll be watching our sideline to see if the players melt down and start crakin on each other ..................and see if the staff can hold things together.............that's my fear. We melt down mentally and away she goes...............like a handful of sand. Can our guys hang on? Do they have a 4th quarter in reserve? Predicition? Luke takes the team on his back and we win in double OT 24-21. |

On our podcast, I predicted Akron 28 Miami 21.
The keys: Contain Kokal. Keep him from rushing 100 yards! Kennedy and Walker must put up some yards on the ground. -------------------- "When it meant the most, the Zips did everything better. That includes the grit and concentration needed to re-tool the team to replace Abreu, beat rival Can't State on Friday (62-59) and then demolish Ohio 24 hours later." --Terry Pluto, The Cleveland Plain Dealer

Good coaches fix teams problems on the bye week, that is if they have the talent to do so.
I believe we do. We'll see if JD does this and has our boys ready to play. Coming off a bye week, playing at home, against Miami...NO EXCUSES. I'll say: Akron 27 Miami 17 Z-P, I didn't catch your link to your podcast this week, what's up? -------------------- ![]() "One original thought is worth a thousand mindless quotings"--Diogenes of Sinope |

if the zips can't get up to play these bunch of assholes who embarrassed them their whole careers at akron, then they won't be up to play anybody all year. zips 28, assholes 10 in a very phsyical game. zips out to prove the first half of the season doesn't reflect the true team and who better to take out frustrations on than the sweaters?

Miami is playing on a short week and the second home game in a row and against a team with a week off. If this was the NFL, it would be an almost guarantee win for the the Zips.
