NEW YORK QB CLOSING IN ON OFFERS

post this:

At 6-3, 225 pounds, Rush (NY) Rush quarterback Ashton Broyld sounds like he has the ideal size for a pro-style quarterback, but the Empire State product proved in his junior season that he is much more than that.

Ashton Broyld has one offer and is looking for more.

He completed 72 percent of his passes in 2009, throwing for 1,400 yards and running for another 900 on his way to third-team all-state honors and the Class AA Player of the Year. Akron has given him an official offer, and it sounds like a few others are close.

"I've been getting a lot of mail from Syracuse, Rutgers, Pitt and Maryland," Broyld told PantherLair.com. "Michigan, Virginia, Georgia, LSU, Nebraska, and that's about it. Syracuse is close (to offering). I thought Rutgers was close too. I think they are."

Pitt also may be a school that is close to offering, and Broyld will be making the trek to Pittsburgh next weekend for the Panthers' Junior Day.

"I've talked to them a couple times," Broyld said. "I get a lot of mail from them. I'm going to make it to Pitt on the 21st (of February)."

Broyld - who played at John Marshall High School in New York before moving to Rush Henrietta - is hoping a Pitt offer may be in the works.

"I wouldn't be surprised one bit (if Pitt offered)," Broyld said. "When I was at (John Marshall), we went to a camp there, and my coach thought they were going to (verbally) offer me on the spot."

Now Broyld feels the Panthers are even more interested than they were before.

"I think what (Pitt) was saying at first was that they were thinking about a different position," Broyld said. "Since they got my film, they started liking me at quarterback. I like Pitt. I really don't know (about an offer). It's a question mark."

Broyld also may go to junior days at Syracuse and Rutgers. This is all taking place in the middle of basketball season, where he is averaging a double-double as a point guard and a center.

"I have a lot of good help, and a good supporting cast," Broyld said of how he manages his time. "People remind me of certain things. I stay focused. It's difficult, but I do it.
