  2. I have no voice left!!! The Zips family, friends, and fans gave several raucous “let’s go zips” chants. These men battled their butts off overcame adversity (some self inflicted) and earned the right to fly the flag!! It was a beautiful night and a tremendous win for the program. GoZips!!

  3. DEFENSE! Third and ten. One could argue the play of the game, the front four were Davis/Brady/Ward/Sampson. Four rushing ends. A+ coach Stroud. While Alvin is the obvious choice for player of the game (incredible returns), Brian Bell played the game of his life. 11 tackles (8 solo), FIVE passes defended. Five! No other defender had half as many.

  4. I couldn’t believe how much faster the Zips looked compared to Big Ten Northwestern. Our guys were much quicker to the ball and and better in open space. Let’s not nitpick the team right now. A great day for Zips alumni and fans! Arguably the biggest win since 2005 if not ever

  5. You know, this game really makes me feel bad that we didn't get a chance to play Nebraska.

  8. We can learn discipline for the next game. Wonder if this will boost our RPI.

  15. The students probably are done attending the games for the season. In my mind it depends on the first few games and how the zips play. A blah performance against Butler (a great crowd there) and then a beat down from N.C. State. So they show the first one or two games - not good games and they are done. This has been the trend in the last 4 years. It is disappointing though that is for sure.

  16. They needed a game like that. Started slow, but then they started to look like a Zips squad. Another beautiful night, where the hell are the students??

  17. My thoughts on the game: First half was rough on offense. Offensive line killed us with penalties and making us always be behind the chains as a result. Like Bowden said in his presser, I think it was a result of some acclimating to playing on the biggier stage. Definitely settled down in the second half and played well. Nice job of Gasser to hit his FGs. Not going to hold the last one against him as it was a long one. Our defense is bad as as expected. Agreed Bell played on hell of a game and both Davis'. MLB is a much better fit for Bell, IMO. Alvin should be the national defensive player of the week if there is such a thing! I can't believe he returned the second INT for a TD. First one was sweet too obviously. I can't wait to watch Morris and Williams shred the MAC for years to come. We did have a lot of questions marks at WR going into the year, but as I suspected, there is more talent there. On the injury front, I recall Jean-Baptiste, Featherstone, and Brady getting injured. I think Featherstone was in crutches after the game. I hope none are too serious and they can get back out there quickly. I really hope we can go into conference play relatively healthy. I was pretty baffled at the way our last possession was handled. I also get not wanting to punt the last play. Listening to the presser, it has been something thats been practiced many times, just wasn't set up/executed properly. If I were a betting man, I'd bet the clock operator was a little late starting it and quick to stop it on that play as well. If we really did have two #9s on the field the last play, we lucked out. Definitely some learning experiences that came out this game for players and coaches, just thankful it didn't cost us a big win. Was a pleasure meeting/celebrating with @Captain Kangaroo and his family. The Zips family section (I assume) at the game was an awesome & rowdy bunch. It's nice to see the players have a section for these far away games. Northwestern paid us 1.2M to go up there and kick their a$$. Who would have thought we would be undefeated 3 weeks into the season?! Now time to go read some crying on the Northwestern board and then on to Iowa State!

  18. Hopefully we’re the ones who won’t want that game rescheduled as we’ll hopefully be in the MAC Championship Game. On to Detroit!

  21. Iowa State expects the starting QB to be out, again this week, although he seems fairly capable of putting together a win. What stands out is our defense. Iowa State seemed to have one guy who tackled well where we had 3 guys in double digit tackles and Davis with 8. I now agree with Bowden, that this might be the best defense we have seen, which says a lot when you think back to 2014. If Kato can continue to make good decisions and be patient until we get the ball into our recievers' hands, we can win. We now have enough depth at receiver to make the difference. I actually think depth at receiver and our run defense improvements are the big difference between last year and this year. Our OL is not creating giant holes, but enough to keep defenses honest and protect the QB.

  22. The announcers said Sampson arrived late with the hit, but I did not see it. The BTN announcers were, obviously seeing things through a NW fan's eyes, although they also treated us with more respect than P5 announcers or other networks usually do. That being said, I hated the camera work and the whole BTN experience.

  23. Yes it may not be up right away (seeing as how the game ended just 11 hours ago and it's Sunday) but here are links to Northwestern vs. Purdue and Northwestern vs. Duke. I'd imagine it'll be posted later today or tomorrow. They don't have any week 3 games up yet and most week two games were posted "six days ago".

  25. We were the proverbial buzzsaw in the second half. Dominant offensively and defensively. (& I agree, it felt like Kato had more than 300 passing yards.)

  27. I couldn't stream the game on B1G Network. Someone had previously said that B1G Network posts all games on YouTube. Is this correct? I could only find game highlights on YouTube. If someone finds the game replay available online could you post a link?

  29. My guess is that Kato was instructed to scramble around long enough for him to then throw the ball deep downfield out of bounds and that he jumped the gun and threw it a couple of seconds early. Bowden did not look happy with the result of that play at all. I get not punting. I kept thinking of Michigan State’s miracle punt block as time expired against Michigan a few years ago.

  30. Last year, apart from Nelson's repeated taunts, the team seemed much better with penalties and discipline. Tonight was frustrating, for sure. As much as I would tend towards the old school, bench them all, it just wouldn't motivate today's players. I also love the same old complainers whining about how bad our coaching is on the Zips FB Facebook. Give it a rest. You just show how small you are when you do this on the night we score our first B10 win, the season after we win the MAC East and make our second bowl appearance in 3 years.

  32. Nice job Zips but to give NW the ball for the last play was one of the stupidest things I ever witnessed. Hell, Nelson could have sprinted back for a safety and game over. NW should have never had a chance for a hail Mary.

  42. I will say, they seem to be giving us more respect than most P5 schools. Their press conference was more than the fake compliments we usually see from opposing coaches. I said this last year. Kato needs to let the game come to him I stead of trying to do too much. He did that in the Ohio game, so he can do it. If he can make it a goal to help other guys have big plays, he will have big plays, himself. That does not mean that he never tucks and runs but that he is looking to let the offensive system work. One thing we did nit really see was what our 3rd or 4th and short looks like this year. We did well with MTB carrying the ball. Can one of the new big guys carry that or will we see MTB back there, again? I think his height helped him see where and when he could make his move.
