  1. When Groce recruits new players I like to compare them to past players to try to get an idea of how he intends to utilize them. Some are more obvious than others. Mikal Dawson's videos scream former Illini guard, Rayvonte Rice to me. And that would be a very good thing. Both 6 - 4. I think Dawson has longer arms. Dawson 200lbs now. Rice 220lbs out of high school, played at 230lbs for Illinois. Both Shooting Guards that played some forward in high school. Both very strong and played football in high school. Both seek contact and can rebound/score in a crowd. Both have hops and play above the rim. Both team leaders and state champions. Rice was runner-up to Mr. Illinois Basketball and a 3 star recruit. Dawson was voted captain of the Class AAA all-state first team in West Virginia and a 2 star recruit. Both passed over by P5 schools out of high school. Rice transferred in from Drake after 2 years to play for Groce. I don't know if there is such a thing as a power guard in basketball, but that is exactly what Rayvonte Rice was for Illinois. He was "Mr. And 1" because he drove the lane like a running back. I think Utomi, who is taller and a natural wing could very well take on that role now that he has help and depth at forward. And I sure do hope to see Mikal Dawson develop into some version of a power guard. https://www.hudl.com/video/3/5343942/58fbe8b002b1c631d0ccfdbf

  2. It feels like someone flirting with your girlfriend. GTF out of here, KD. You left for Pittsburgh.

  3. It's the least Dambrot could do after The Chosen One pulled the wool over the public's eyes on how that school was being funded. I digress. I still don't like this. The next time Duquesne is in town, it better be to play Akron.

  4. I haven't been this excited for a Zips game since the last time Coppin State came to town.

  5. Yeah, we wish your sorry Hawaii-tanned butt was here freezing it off this week, with white stuff on the ground...and not your white sand!

  6. Glad to have him as a Zip. We can build on him being a freshman. I'm impressed with how articulate he is. I hope he excels in the years ahead. Congratulations to the coaching staff for bringing him in.

  7. That comment is simply untrue, and it bothers me that you would post it. The people posting on this site have kept comments towards the players above-board. That is one thing that separates our site from other fan forums. Even the comments regarding the coaching staff (Bowden/Milwee) have been very measured. Your hypersensitivity to the topic doesn't make it otherwise.

  8. I'm confused by this. TB is nearing two full scholarship cycles. College football turns over 75-85% every 4 years and 99.9% every 5. If there's a lack of depth, isn't that 100% on the coaching staff at this point?

  9. Don't often post over here, but I see there's a call for lake effect of 3+ inches on Sunday in Syracuse. Anyone know what NCAA protocol is? Maybe they'll move the game to Akron like the Northwestern debacle a few years back.

  10. Not a good night last night for USMNT, but nice to always see Wil and DeAndre together...

  11. I’d like to know what the call was too. If Ben was holding the ball too long, ref should have blown whistle, stopped clock, and given Ben a yellow card. I’ve never seen a free kick called for the GK holding the ball too long.

  12. With only a few minutes remaining, Ben is trying to punt the ball and a Rider player is won't move out of his way. The ref calls a foul on Ben. What was the call?

  13. Princeton had the opportunity in the 5th and 12th rounds of PKs to put Michigan away after Michigan had missed it's PK but missed on theirs both times. Michigan prevailed in the 14th round of PKs. Both teams made 3 of 5 in 'best-of-5' PKs. A shame it wasn't readily available for viewing; had to follow tracker.

  16. Last year the kittens pounded the MACs top team Toledo, only to lose to the Zips the following week.

  17. This was great...like B & G said, class act and very humble, but seems self confident too. And also, ditto on a traditional Frosh recruit.

  21. I went 13-19 1st downs too (no reason, just hopeful we can sustain some drives) Zips win by more than 6. We jump out early and D really locks it down. Passing yards 200-299: Quick passing games gets various receivers multiple receptions and we have a couple slants or crossers go for big gains. Van will lead the rushers: He looked like he was finding some room against EMU and I think he pops a big one (40+) to get his total well over 100 for the game. Fearless Forecast: Boogie catches a TD pass (probably a slant or crosser that he takes to the house from WAY out (70+))

  22. Making a bowl game looks to be a long shot with the beating Ohio gave Buffalo last night I truly have mixed feelings on this topic, we were completely irrelevant before Bowden, our expectations have risen because we are competitive now. A lot of our losses are close & it seems because we are predictable & underachieving on offense. We also seem to play to be in a game in the .4th quarter & try to win by not making mistakes instead of creating a game plan driven towards the weaknesses of our opponent and playing to win instead of not to lose In sports if you go after it & get a lead you usually take your opponent out of their game plan, which usually creates good things for your team I wonder if we had a good OC & Bowden loosen the noose on his coaches (meaning let your special teams play instead of fair catching kicks & letting the offense be aggressive if we could take the next step? I like we are competing, recruiting is getting better, his southern connection with what is in NEO should be able to succeed. So, the question is, what does the AD do?

  23. Fearless Forecast: Since I am unable to attend the game, the Zips play their best game of the year.

  24. Nobody is blaming'every single loss on coaching'. What objective fans are doing is looking at patterns over the past 7 seasons. Just because some think all fans are idiots doesn't mean its true. Some fans can actually watch ballgames and understand what is and is not happening. This is not personal for most folks. But after 7 seasons this program should not be losing its first two conference games. It should not be getting waxed by the NIU's MU's,UB's and EMU's. The offense should not be as pathetic as it has been. That is seen most markedly in the poor O-line play and lack of a running game. This is finally about being consistently competitive with the best programs in the MAC. Clearly this program is not.

  25. On his Twitter feed he says "I prefer to be called by my last name." Zipmeister's new favorite player?

  26. He was asked more questions by the press in that interview than he will all 4-5 years at Akron.
