  2. No streaming! C'mon, you can stream it on Periscope with nothing more than a smartphone. An ESPN sideline reporter once actually did this when a lacrosse game (the ACC championship game) was literally flooded by a sudden rainstorm and had to be moved to another field for the last 10 minutes of the game.

  3. The Beacon article this morning was all so cheery and the only reason....THE ONLY REASON this game happened here is that poor ol' Duquesne, hosting the DIII NCAA V-Ball Championships, couldn't find another venue anywhere....ANYWHERE....between Pittsburgh PA and a High School gymnasium in Akron Ohio to play Radford, from outside Roanoke VA. Hell, there are three colleges/university within walking distance of Duquesne. Oh! We can give back the the children...the children of Akron. I've kept my trap shut about this, because I like Keith, and I like the I Promise School concept and I like LeBron and I do think he has given a lot to the city, but this whole thing stinks to high hell. To go to Ohio, com the day after the Zips won a home game at the JAR and on the front page see a picture of a Duquesne Basketballer with some schoolkids just makes me want to throw up the Eggos I just consumed (picture this in yellow )

  4. Went downtown to the Knight center to check out the Christmas tree festival. It was fun. Much better use of my time than this mess.

  5. Been a busy week, but I've been meaning to chime in here... The seeding was fair. The Akron men's soccer brand is well established and recognized. We were borderline for getting a seed and lost 3-1 at home to Syracuse among other mysterious losses throughout the season. Syracuse was seeded one slot ahead of us, fine and fair. That said, we have played well below our potential most of the season. Do you think there is a team that Syracuse and Wake would least like to face this early in the Tournament than us? I don't. Any one, any where, any time! Syracuse will play tough, but I think we have an overall edge in talent. If we continue to play as we have the past 2-3 weeks, 3-2 in favor of the Zips. Syracuse has lost five in a row and haven't played since the end of October. The opening NCAAT home game against a recently accomplished and respectable opponent (even if no name to Joe Akron) that we have never played was interesting and nice to have in spite of the poor weather. I was impressed with both teams' ability to pass and control the ball in spite of the field conditions. Maybe it wasn't as bad on the field as it looked on TV? It was great to be able to watch in HD on my TV while the weather outside here in MD was also terrible.

  6. Not only do we have far and away the nicest facilities in the MAC, but possibly in all of G-5 football. On top of that, Akron is literally the epicenter of one of the nation's true hot beds for high school football talent. Why can't we be the Mount Union of the MAC? For the life of me I can't figure out why we aren't already. Just hire Mount's OC, for crying out loud. It isn't rocket science.

  12. A la NCAA precedent from when this happened to us against Northwestern so many years ago, shouldn't the game be move to Akron?

  13. I used Fleck as a point to illustrate that if you actually have a coach that can recruit and develop players, you can turn a bad team to a great team really quick. I'm not holding it against Bowden that he hasn't had a 13-1 season at Akron. What I'm holding against him is we're in year 7 and we're pretty much at the same exact place that we were at in year 2 of his tenure. He made a giant leap in growing the program at the start, but it has been stagnant ever since.

  14. I'm not defending Bowden an co here for this season, as I have become extremely disgruntled, however I do think some objectivity is needed. Equating Fleck and Bowden is a ludicrous comparison. The team Fleck inherited was considerably different from the team Bowden inherited. PJ Fleck inherited a team that had only 1 coach change in 7 years, and one year removed from a bowl game/winning season. Bowden Inherited a team that had 3 coaching changes in 9 years, and was 7 years removed from a bowl-game/winning season. To equate the situations that Bowden and fleck had is laughable. With that being said, yes I agree the Zips should be, in 2018, beyond the utter-meltdown after suffering a couple of injuries stage. The Zips should also be beyond a sputtering offense. But it's time to stop equating Fleck and Bowden's situation. A more apt comparison would be Bowden to the situations at Eastern Michigan and Miami of Ohio. Both situations are extremely similar to the situation the Zips were in.

  15. Fearless forecast: It will rain... oh not that forecast? Ok then, Alex starts to look like he has played before and has a completion percentage over 45% with two (2!) TD's

  16. I think he's going to start taking some time away from Poke. He had a nice showing tonight. Toles looked lost on both ends, bu he is still settling in. Glad to see our kids not back down to the thugs.

  18. We were coming off a 5-7 season when the seniors on this team were being recruited. The same record we'll most likely finish with this season. Fleck turned a 1-11 WMU into a 13-1 team in a span of 3 seasons. It doesn't take 10 years to build a program. People on this board will still be using RI as an excuse 5 years from now.

  20. That comment is simply untrue, and it bothers me that you would post it. The people posting on this site have kept comments towards the players above-board. That is one thing that separates our site from other fan forums. Even the comments regarding the coaching staff (Bowden/Milwee) have been very measured. Your hypersensitivity to the topic doesn't make it otherwise.

  21. Thanks, @zipsoutsider I figure I came to this board to provide insight where I could; no sense in hiding from rightfully frustrated fans. I think y'all have been more than fair in your assessments of the team, players, and the program. It's a good growth moment for us parents too, to be honest.

  22. Takes a lot of guts for a parent to come here, knowing people are going to be taking swipes at your kid. Looking forward to watching Alex grow into the position.

  23. I think the cupboard was so bare that we've gotten to a point that our starters can hang with anyone in the MAC and then some, but no depth. The way recruiting is trending, that is the next step. I'm certainly not thrilled with the way the season has gone, but we went to the MACCG last year for the 2nd time ever.. Maybe I'm jaded by how bad we sucked for so long, but I don't want to say TB needs to go. I'd like to see some changes on the offensive side of the coaching staff.

  25. UConn WINS national championships in B.ball. Just like all the other big boys they are gonna refuse to give up a home date with all that revenue to play in a MAC B.ball venue. Might be better to extract a BIG guarantee from UConn in order to have MAC teams play early games there. Would pad the MAC bank accounts and elevate the RPI even with losses.
