  2. ^^Fully agree. Watching him develop mentally and emotionally into one of the best leaders I’ve seen in a long time has been a joy.

  3. If you haven't already, wait until you see this kid play! I am very high on him. He could play D1 in ANY sport he chose, he is a stud athlete. I am so glad he chose to play soccer, and to play here.

  4. The upswing is underway. The Crew will be one of the hottest tickets in central Ohio. I bought my season tickets today and I was surprised at how much of the stadium was sold out. Last season's attendance was a direct backlash against Precourt and MLS, which directed the relocation effort. No one wanted to give Precourt any more money. Plus the league only gave us two home games in July and August to try to fabricate the myth that Columbus isn't supported. That, like much of what Precourt and the league did, was a lie. Over 12,000 season ticket pledges were made if Precourt left and the team stayed. With the new owners, coach (Caleb), GM (Bez), downtown stadium and Mahfre repurposed into a soccer complex Columbus will be the envy of MLS.

  5. This should be good enough. A screen shot of all things. Who would have thunk.

  6. He still struggles with ball handling, but he has adapted to that weakness, putting himself in positions when he does drive or back his defender down, to minimize that weakness. Ivey frustrates the hell out of me sometimes, but his growth has been fantastic. I'm most impressed by his demeanor. He had a hot head last year, and is able to control his emotions much, much better this year. Kudos to him and the coaching staff on working with him.

  7. 5 games early and Can't State still sucks. Didn't think this game would get picked up.

  8. 247 doesn’t show him as signed because at the last minute he signed with Netflix instead to star in their new Space Force series!

  9. Sweet. Not sure on the rules, but it would be cool to be able to put a walk-on on scholarship for the semester

  11. Next year's is even better. Too bad that we're going through a coaching change going into it

  12. Oh, I definitely agree. But I am just saying that Ivey's game has improved so much even since last year when I thought he struggled driving the lane and handling the ball. So kudos to Ivey for putting in the work. ...and kudos to NWAkron.

  14. I love LePear & enjoyed watching him in high school. But Ivey’s on a different level than LePear right now.

  15. Groce talked about Reece on Zips Live tonight. Said he and the coaches watched his most recent game and that he was a monster. He also talked about finding him while recruiting Channel Banks. A 6'6" power forward inside presence could really help this team.

  17. I really don’t want an apology. Just tired of the negativity. I know we all have different opinions but it doesn’t seem to matter the situation he can put a negative spin on it. I guess what I’m saying is agree with it or not my Alma Mater chose to fire Bowden & hire Arth. I’m supporting the Zips. Go Zips

  18. I'm dusting off an old thread based on quotes on other threads and my observations of Jimond this year. I have come to senior days of many seasons and stood to cheer the players I thought represented my alma mater in an exemplary manner. I won't cheer any player louder than Jimond. From that awkward out of control freshman to being a senior leader, Jimond has given 100% every minute he has been on the floor. He stuck with UA when KD left and others bailed. Last year, I watched him try to counsel and temper Virshon. This year, I have watched him taking younger players under his wing and offer them advice or words of encouragement. His impact on the team has gone far beyond his basketball talents. He has done the Zips proud. Good luck Jimond in wherever life leads you.

  19. I strongly disliked soccer until the Caleb Porter years. Akron soccer represents what they call "The Beautiful Game" in its natural beauty. There is a reason that 34-pass build-up on the Stanford goal got so much attention on Twitter; it's rare for American soccer to be played like European soccer (American-style soccer is typically pump and dump like most of college, especially the Big Ten, vs. European which is more Akron-like possession). Hopefully the Rowdies get their act together next year. There was nothing like the Porter years when the Rowdies were at their best - a thousand strong on the hill reciting the goalie's entire life via his social media and giving the opponents overall hell. If you haven't already, you need to watch this video. The Tulsa game in 2010 was probably the epitome of that era atmosphere wise. It was #1 Akron vs. #2 Tulsa, Fox Sports Soccer or Fox Soccer Network (whatever it is called) televised the game nationally. Absolutely bonkers crowd with 1k+ Rowdies on the hill, fireworks prior to the game, etc. Akron won 4-0 I believe. Here are some videos from that game... Overview of "The Pouch" Prior to the Game Zips Official Recap The Sound of the Vuvuzelas I Believe That We Have Won Side note: I think Embick has taken the Akron style of soccer to the next level. I think we shoot more now, while still maintaining the patient attack. Scary to think we might be better style wise now than when we lost (officially) 1 game in 2 seasons (2009-10). I did not know that.
