  1. Kent State -- Higher Learning -- can they make a knife from what???? Scientists try but fail to make a KNIFE from their own frozen feces after an explorer claims Inuits use the technique in the Arctic. To put the story to the test, Kent State University anthropologists Metin Eren, Michelle Bebbera and their colleagues froze human faeces in knife-like shapes at temperatures of -20°C (-4°F) in a laboratory freezer.

  2. As opposed to what, Balsy's in-depth arbitrary rankings because you follow so close? Which recruit are you most excited for so far in the 2020 class? Or are you just blindly arguing? You aren't making any points to support you argument other than "TERRY BOWDEN" bud.

  3. This is the series that gave birth to the phrase "Fear the Roo!". It was 2005, or maybe 2006 the teams met in CP, and the UofM Prez had to issue a warning to students not to chant anything more controversial than "Fear the Turtle". To that I replied, on I think the old ZN Blue Board: "Fear the turtle? How about the twerps Fear the Roo?!?" Alas the Associate AD to Mike Thomas (trying to remember his name -- he joined Thomas at Cinci, then moved to SEMo and CCU) was a lurker on this board, and liked it enough to trademark the idea and put it on T-shirts! I'm still waiting for my first residual pay check. Sad.

  5. Behind Enemy Lines: Akron football beat writer George Thomas discusses CMU game

  6. Thanks man. Agreed on both points. A quick breakdown of our team: - We have 2 QB transfers, Dormady from Tennessee and he just got hurt. Moore is from Memphis and he is a dual threat guy. Haven't seen much of him but he is better than anything we had last year, we assume. - Ward is our RB, he got injured too. However, we are deep at that position. - WR is a young group but we have a transfer fro, VaTech, Pimpleton, who is a stud. Poljan was our QB last year and is now our best TE. - OL was trash last year, improved this year. - DL is solid. - LB is very young, but decent. - Very strong at S, but weak at CB. I think many CMU fans are expecting a win because last year we kept it very close and our offense was inept. However, I don't follow Akron to know what the turnover was like from 2018 to 2019. We lost 2 CB's to the NFL. Should be a tight game. I do think we will win, but it really depends on how Moore performs.

  7. Personally, for me however Arth does has no bearing on my thoughts on letting Bowden go. I wanted Bowden gone because frankly I didn't feel he won consistently enough to warrant more time and I had no faith in him turning the program into a consistent MAC contender. Some of you may or may not disagree and that's fine. If Arth succeeds it tells me Larry Williams and his supporting staff made a good coaching hire. If Arth fails that means they didn't. Somewhere out there is a young promising coach that is looking for a chance. It's just a matter of finding him.

  8. Tribble will be an immediate impact freshman. He’s coming off a season where he played at the highest level of prep basketball against HM talent. Started every game on a team with at least two lottery picks on the roster, I’m excited to see if Groce will throw him right in the fire or try to bring him along as the season goes.

  9. Are we seriously talking about the #1 and #2 recruiting classes at an FCS school right now? Please...stop.

  10. IMO from what I have seen during the first two games, Akron's top 5 WRs for the Central Michigan game should be: Dustin Burkhart - starter Nate Stewart - starter Andre Williams - starter Tim Scippio Mike Mathison Julian Hicks should be in the mix if he is recovered from his injury

  11. Now, with the Chip's QB and RB out, the zips have a chance, but in a close low scoring game. I expect Kato to get the bulk of the running yards, therefore 71 - 100. Also, Burkhart will have another good game, but not this Saturday. It will be AW. Go Zips!!!

  12. I am hoping Greg Tribble matures quickly and maybe he can play some point guard this year too. I would prefer to see Cheese primarily at the wing. Even though Reece is undersized, we really need his physicality around and above the rim. And I know our bigs are not going to be high-volume scorers, but I want to see them be higher-percentage scorers. Ideally, Riak and Sayles have been mastering at least one spot away from the rim this off-season. Riak likes the 3 pointer straight away and Sayles likes to shoot from the free throw line. Also, I like the use of "X" for Xeyrius, nice. And I think he could be an X-Factor for this team, especially on offense. See what I did there. And finally, high level defense is not optional.

  16. DAMN!!! Over two-and-a-half years since anybody cared enough to post on this subject! Well...here we go... Even in the 50th State it's possible to hear scuttlebutt about the Polytechnic College of Summit County, and hear stories about the history of alma mater! This summer I was privileged to spend time at the National Conference of Mayors conference at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki, and had an opportunity to meet and greet several current and former Akron political bigwigs -- including a recent former mayor and former President of the National Conference of Mayors. So...having him available to speak both "off-the-record" AND off-the-cuff" -- and before the booze started flowing LOL (I was informed that said mayor was capable of drinking any other city official "under the table"!), I dropped the question: "Whatever happened to that new downtown arena I heard so much about"? Whoa!! It took a fairly lengthy pause, an increase in blood pressure, and it almost seemed a skipped heartbeat before our ex-chief executive could spit out his heartfelt response...clearly I had hit upon a subject connected to his gut! "You know", he forcefully answered, including some quick statistics..."whenever the university comes to the city with a request, 17 out of 20 times, the city is happy to work with the university! But more and more, the presidents have wanted to take, take, take and give nothing in return -- going all the way back to President Guzzetta there was a good relationship between the university and the city, but sheesh this last guy...!" (his veins starting to pump more blood more rapidly). "All he ever wanted was to take, and never gave the city a damn thing!!" So, my takeaway was, the university was expecting the city to foot the major share of the cost for an arena facility, and the city was unwilling -- not to mention unable to financially pull the rabbit that President Proenza was looking to be pulled out of its pocket. But overall it was a merry three days of meetings and partying for the nations' municipal leadership along the white sands of Honolulu's tourist district. And Z.I.P consumed mass quantities of libations -- courtesy of the mayors and sponsors!

  17. 1) Arth had I believe the #1 and #2 recruiting classes in his conference in his two years at UT-C. 2) Per 247, last year Arth, in 2 months with early signing day working against him, literally put together the 2nd best recruiting class compared to everybody since 2012 (the year Bowden started). In Bowden's best class, which ranked #113 (compared to Arth's #114), his class averaged 2 points lower per recruit than Arth's did and many of those players didn't even end up making it to campus. Just facts man.

  18. Well, that would be a draw, with Bluejays advancing on PKs. This fact was pointed out to me by traveling Creighton fans during their visit last season. Nice folks. Creighton has never beaten Akron.
