  1. This O-Line and defensive backfield may be approaching Ianello-level ineptitude.

  2. I never understood the enthusiasm for a guy (Arth) who does not have an established track record of winning. Who cares about his recruiting abilities if he cannot win? What we have seen from in games 1 and 2 has not been impressive. He wasn't starting where Bowden started.

  4. Whew. This is bad. I want to give the staff the benefit of the doubt, but being uncompetitive against Central is unacceptable. Central should be, by far, the worst team in the MAC this year. Oh, and EMU went into Champaign and hung 34 on Illinois, with a walk-off FG win.

  5. "We're good enough, we're smart enough, and, doggone it, we might be the best 0-4 team in the history of college soccer!"

  6. No. Any and all comments made about Bowden and Arth in this thread were a logical progression of a conversation of feelings/observations/thoughts directly derived from the UAB game. I guess all the comments about recruiting and 247 need to move to the recruiting thread right? There's like 4 pages of 8 on this thread that have Bowden's name in it. To say this now is being preposterously pedantic.

  7. Nope. I'm as diehard a Zip Alumni as any of you. I will not apologize for it. And I will not apologize for being realistic. The Irony is this whole forum was miserable last year...where was your advocacy for people to "take their misery elsewhere" last year when this forum melted down on just about every one of the last 6-games of the season?

  9. " ... They’re a pretty aggressive defense. When they’re bring pressure, they’re coming. They’re timing up blitzes. Their linebackers are hitting it on the run, so we have to do a good job of being ready for some of the pressures they’re going to bring.” I watched part of a practice this summer where Kato was using a deceptive snap count to counter the above. Maybe we'll see that play out today. ?

  10. interesting tidbit - CMU's HC McElwain was the QB coach at the Oakland Raiders when Charlie Frye was there I believe. Now Charlie is the CMU OC. By the way. McElwain's coaching resume is pretty impressive, except for crazy stuff at Florida (including bogus online photos).

  11. https://umterps.com/news/2019/9/13/mens-soccer-24-terps-take-out-akron-1-0.aspx From the Boss "That was a tremendous win for our team. It required a championship effort and I think tonight we got it. We did all the little things you have to do to win a game. I thought our defensive pressure was outstanding, but I also thought we were crisper in possession, particularly in the first half. I was very proud of the way our team played today. That Akron team might be the best 0-4 team in the history of college soccer. They'll be a contender as the year progresses." – Sasho Cirovski

  12. Personally, for me however Arth does has no bearing on my thoughts on letting Bowden go. I wanted Bowden gone because frankly I didn't feel he won consistently enough to warrant more time and I had no faith in him turning the program into a consistent MAC contender. Some of you may or may not disagree and that's fine. If Arth succeeds it tells me Larry Williams and his supporting staff made a good coaching hire. If Arth fails that means they didn't. Somewhere out there is a young promising coach that is looking for a chance. It's just a matter of finding him.

  14. I think it's a good thing they didn't. There offense would have likely penetrated deep into our territory again and again. Things could have really gotten messy.

  15. @Z.I.P. I appreciate you sharing your story. I'm not sure its that people don't care. I think everyone has just came to the realization that barring some surprise 8 figure donation that a new arena isn't going to happen anytime soon. I'm not sure if you recall, but a few years ago the city actually did try to get a downtown arena paid for by including it as part of a ballot issue that would have raised sales tax. The arena was removed prior to election day as tax payers made it clear they didn't want their tax dollars used for it. The sales tax increase measure still ended up failing. The University itself is facing its own well documented budget problems. The money isn't there for an arena. Personally, I know the JAR is a bit dated relative to these cathedrals we've come used to experiencing in the sports entertainment world, however, it's structurally fine and completely serviceable. The University trying to keep up with the joneses is what has gotten it in the financial mess that it is currently in. Getting the annual budget into the black should be the Universities main focus.

  17. Cameron Shirkey, Sr., P/PK, Bloom-Carroll High School Watched him kick a 48 yard field goal in week one of his senior high school season and is the best high school punter I have seen in quite a while. Seems to fill a potential need for the Zips.
