  2. Glad to see he's still playing and doing well. Seems to have bulked up a bit too. Will probably always be my favorite Zip. Such a great guy.

  3. I'd qualify this with his 3-pt shot has been off. His mid-range jumper is about as deadly as I've ever seen, though. Love that he has that in his arsenal. @Z.I.P. I don't know where to find a stat sheet that has a lay-up count, but @kreed5120 is spot on with our versatility and ability to take advantage of what the defense was giving us. We had a lot of dribble-drives that either ended in a mid-short-range jumper or a lay-up. It was fun to watch. This is partly why I think this team will be so dangerous come March, and why I am not worried about any of our losses. We have a strong ability - it seems - to overcome adversity, keep fighting, and adapt to the flow of a game. Sometimes it's not always enough (i.e. Toledo, PCCC), but more often than not we've seen it has been enough, way more than enough.

  4. LCJ, Banks and Cheese all made substantial improvements in their shooting percentages this year. I have to believe Tribble, Dawson and Ali will be much improved in 2020-21. And hopefully elevating to "dangerous" in 2021-22. Ali reminds me of Deji Ibitayo. Athletic, raw and skinny. Deji was a frustrating shooter his first 2 seasons, and had great Junior and Senior campaigns behind the arc. Somebody is going to need to drain 3's after the Big 4 are gone. That has to be a huge point of emphasis for Groce in the coming off-season.

  6. I was listening to the radio broadcast after the game. I heard them say 2 Toledo news stations and the local paper were in attendance. I wish we got that kind of coverage for a home game, let alone a road game.

  7. Assuming LCJ's play doesn't nosedive the rest of the season, did he secure the MAC POY last night?

  9. I don't know if anyone else noticed, but Dawson is FAST. I mean, really fast. Easily runs the court faster than anyone else on the team.

  10. It is a Friday night game at 7 on ESPNU. The Zips get to play on national TV!!

  11. I'm sure you all appreciated that I didn't have a "we are doomed" meltdown tonight. Nice crowd. No gimmicks. Just folks wanting to see good basketball. BG probably didn't feel the loss of Frye v Toledo, but it hit them hard tonight. Turner has an early turnover doing the work Frye would be doing.

  13. I must give credit where credit is due and (in my opinion) Deng did a hell of a job protecting the bucket tonight!

  14. Great win for the Zips. Most importantly did not let them back in the game. MD is right on Riak. He was big on defense tonight when BG went to the basket. He disrupted a lot of shots. Loved how they mixed up the defense tonight. Trapping on the ball screen then switching it then getting through the picks; man to man then 1-3-1 then back to man. Kept them on their toes all night.

  15. BG does not like the 1-3-1.

  16. Turner leads the MAC in uncalled travels.

  17. For all you Riak haters he sure has been playing some good defense. And too bad the Zips didn't stretch the lead to even larger while they were preventing BUGS from scoring.

  18. Tribble has been playing some good minutes tonight

  19. I don't mind the traps, but the defense needs to rotate to stop the easy layup

  21. It is kind of ridiculous. In their sports menu they have a section for Ohio State and then another section for College Sports where Akron used to end up and there used to be a reasonable number of stories about Akron and the MAC. Today in the college section there are 39 stories. 35 are related to Ohio State, the other four are a basketball story each about Case Western, John Carroll, the Akron Kent game on January 31st and a Michigan college football coach who was fired after saying he would have dinner with Hitler. Quite the local Northeast Ohio college sports coverage there.

  22. Yes, the PD downsized last season right after college basketball season.

  23. Is Elton gone from PD? There is no Zip coverage. It's all OSU all the time. ABJ seems solely focused on the local teams.

  25. Last year Zips held Turner to 0 points in the first half only for him to drop 23 in the 2nd half. Don't jinx us.
