  1. Bowden was let go on December 2, 2018. 2 years, 9 months and 4 days ago. 1009 days ago. It may just be time to let it go.

  3. I’ll throw out another thought. How much has the belt tightening affected recruiting? Coaching? It looks like they can’t even afford to keep the website up to date. Let alone improve on recruiting, etc. We’re hearing about deep cuts in education, that’s gotta have an affect on the athletics budgets.

  4. For the love of God, move on already. Yes, move on! Step off! Whatever works for you. And who are these folks still carrying a torch for Bowden? You and the 3 others who come on here and incessantly bitch? Let it go. It will be ok.

  5. By year 3 Bowden upset Pitt and took the team to a bowl game, and won it. This is year 3 for Arth. His cupboard was no more bare than the one Bowden inherited from Ianello. There is zero hope that this team wins more than two games, and maybe more realistically one game. But we cannot afford to fire him. To pretend that the program isn't in dire straits is a joke. Yes, Williams was a big part of the disaster, but it goes further. UA is clearly not concerned with putting a high quality team on the field to compete. Whether Bowden had some bad luck or was a bad coach will be proven over the next three years as he tries to flip ULM which is even more disadvantaged than UA, financially. You might want folks to move on from Bowden, but that won't happen until you find a better replacement. Arth isn't it

  6. That burst Malik put on the first goal was ridiculous!!!!

  7. My players of the game... 3. Malik Henry. Dude is FAST and made a great cross on Zips 1st score. Last night I hated the Canucks but tonight love ya Malik! 2.Ryan Kingsford. He's the player that seems to get stronger as the game goes on. Never slowed down tonight. 1. Will Meyer. Has improved so much since last year. Will and the Pitt keeper had a great time one-upping each other.

  8. AkronRick - the scrum at the end started with above described situation. In my opinion the ref let the game get out of control. Pitt was constantly complaining and it just got gradually worse. The end was just a carryover from something that should have been taken care of during the game. #19 is an aggressive player and he is a good player - but his actions were pathetic.

  10. Sad but true ALL OF IT. I said from day 1on here this Arth experiment we can't afford would be a failure and got a lot of hate for it Hell we can't even cheat right.

  11. Bowden was here 7 years and had one winning season, one mediocre season, and five losing seasons. He got fired after going 2-6 in the MAC (read that twice) and we're STILL paying for his complete lack of recruiting the second half of his stay here (how many upperclassmen do we have on the roster?). If you're that infatuated with him, follow him to the Sunbelt basement. A match made in heaven, Bobby Bo and Rich Rodriguez (the most popular UM coach in Buckeye history, at least for now...).

  13. DJ Irons looks as much "the part" as any Akron QB has in 15 years. Small sample, sure, but as other posters have mentioned, 100% completion rate at that volume is hard to do against any opponent. He seems to make quicker decisions and his younger and more athletic frame could remedy the unreasonably poor offensive line play we will most likely see. I also really like the skill positions on this team. Norrils runs hard and with his head down so even though he was getting stopped at the line, he was at least falling forward a couple of yards. That will help big time against smaller and weaker lines in the MAC. Mike Mathison is a solid MAC receiver and Qualls looks like a decent option as well. Without a doubt, the biggest flaw on this team for yet another season is the defense. They are horrible and I really can't fathom how they've remained so bad. There have been so many games now where the opponent gains nearly every single possible yard and scores a touchdown on nearly every drive. There aren't even a couple of turnovers being forced here or there, something to get their offense off the field. Every time Akron's defense takes the field, you know what the result is going to be, it's just a matter of how long it takes to get there. Every single time Bo Nix dropped back to pass, I thought the ball would end up in the end zone. And shame on me for at the very end of the game thinking there's no way they can allow another touchdown to make it 60-10 with the amount of time left. Arth needs to step the hell up and pressure Feeney to do something to fix that mess, or show him the door. The defense is keeping this team, and will keep this team, from even having a chance in many games this season that in the past were unwinnable due to the talent gap, but are no longer so. I've been saying it for years now and it sill holds true, I'm sure Akron would have had a decent chance to end this streak had last year gone as scheduled but it still holds true. Akron has never beaten an FBS nonconference opponent at Infocision Stadium. They have the chance to do it this weekend against a program in a similar place. Hopefully the boys are motivated by how they moved the ball last week. I'm going to go into this game either hoping that DJ Irons runs out there with the 1's or that Kato simply looked like the old Kato because of rust and it being Auburn. This is a huge game for the program. A must-win if you ask me, joining 2019 @UMass and 2020 vs. BGSU in the Arth era. Even if Akron doesn't win, there's no reason it shouldn't be a one or two score game with a chance to win in the second half. If it's ugly like so many have been, you might find me over on the basketball thread coming up with lineups for the upcoming season. Now is the time, coach. Go Zips!!!

  14. I agree with this. Hindsight being what it is, my thoughts when Bowden was canned were, okay, as long as you've got somebody in the chamber who you're sure is better than what we have, because we are awfully undesireable when it comes to football, then that's fine. But that NEVER happened. To be fair to Terry, he did create unprecedented success for our football program. I'll always remember that 2015 Bowl win.

  15. I agree with your list, but I would go in the opposite order. 1. I have never seen Will Meyer play as well as he did tonight. MOTM! 2. Ryan Kingsford works tirelessly. He is non-stop. And he does everything well. 3. Malik Henry is fast. I mean, like DeAndre Yedlin/Kofi Sarkodie fast. Hope his ankle heals up well.

  16. .#19 of Pitt is a dirty player. He took out our #10 and while our guy was on the ground called him a fuc….. puss….. and believe me that wasn’t the only incident. #19 this message is for you - Go home - loser.

  18. I think this is a vital game to maintaining the faith of many Zips fans in Arth. As for me, I have been patient with the build and encouraged others to give it time but my patience is waning. It's time to start seeing results from this staff. For me. the jury's still out, but 11 have already voted to convict and the last one's about to cave. An ugly performance Saturday may end the deliberations.

  21. Agree. John Green and Greg Williams have to go. Oh....wait. By the way, I agree with most of your post (high student fees; script Akron). I just think there's a possibility that Bowden AND Arth both suck.

  22. Or it’s time to hold those accountable for destroying our “average” football program that could surprise you on any given year with a bowl game. The decision makers behind hiring Arth and firing Bowden should be let go, including the board. The Zips, or should I say script Akron, are an embarrassment. I feel bad for the students that have to pay extra fees to support this garbage. And the person that decided to change the logo to script Akron, what the heck were you thinking? Also, the majority of Akron Alumni that watch football are most likely watching the Buckeyes every Saturday. The decision makers do not have the correct formula to turn Akron into another Cinci.

  25. Go watch Kent then, traitor. Expecting Arth to be Caleb Porter is laughable.

  26. Akron should have never fired Bowden is what a good majority of Akron alumni believe, and the way Bowden was fired with years left on his contract for an unproven coach was a reckless decision and we’re lucky the program is still D1 at this point. I’m expecting Arth to be a failure but I would love to be proven wrong. This program is in a sad state and I’d rather drive to Kent to watch Kent State play than go to a Zips game if I was looking to watch local D1 football program. There’s no excitement about the Zips, Arth doesn’t bring excitement. He’s no Caleb Porter.
