  1. On my phone but Dijon Jennings just tweeted, “Another one on the way.”

  2. IDK about ya'll, but I'm enjoying the Guthrie experience thus far. Hoping we can keep him here long term if he continues on the current trajectory.

  9. There's a possibility of a 3-2 start? That's three season's worth of wins in "Arth Years."

  10. Nice to get back into the win column by closing out another close one. Zips led by 13 after a pair of Dawson triples and Jackson iced the team’s momentum by immediately calling a TO. EMU followed up with a 12-0 run and kept it within 4 for almost the entire 4Q but could never get over the hump. Their best player missed a bunny in the lane that would’ve tied it with about 10 seconds to go. Fr. Reagan Bass continues to impress as she had 23 tonight on 8-10 shooting. She is a true post player that this team desperately needed. Dawson had a nice game with 22 pts, 18 boards, and 7 assists, but her 8 turnovers came at very costly times. The Zips stand at 5-3 in league play, good for 5th place with a very winnable game at CMU on Saturday. They’ve got a 2.5 game lead on 9th place, as of right now I like their chances to go to Cleveland. They haven’t been to the Q since 2016.

  12. Toledo has had 4 stars sign in the past. Nick Rossi was a 4 star LB that we signed because we were going to give him a chance at RB. After he signed the recruiting sites changed his star rating to 2.

  13. Yes, but he shouldn't get too carried away. Removing the restroom stall doors and replacing the urinals with horse troughs is not recommended. I'm beginning to suspect that the Zips will not have the lowest-rated recruiting class this go around.

  16. When the Zips women's team won the MAC tournament, they had players hitting 90+% from the FT line. I mentioned to someone that the women should be teaching the men's team on FT shooting. That someone then told me ... you know they play with a smaller basketball? A part of me died.

  17. Definitely in no hurry for Guthrie to go anywhere, that's for sure. Maybe Guthrie will be an Akron Lifer? He's a sharp dude! Mr. Guthrie, if you're reading this, we need a new downtown arena across from Canal Park (the city's banking the land for it). The dusty-but-finished blueprints should be rolled up in one of your closets.

  18. Zips coaches Tre' Bell, Joel Rodriguez, and Allen Tucker all "Liked" Ka'Marii's tweet^^. As far as I can tell no competing FCS coaches Liked the tweet. Additionally, I tweeted this 👇 which was "Liked" by Joel Rodriquez. So I'm optimistic 🙏🤞

  23. I honestly don't think him leaving was as much about the money as it was him wanting to try to cement his legacy by making a sweet 16 run. He had opportunities to leave for more money throughout the years but choose to stay. Duquesne promised him a renovated arena and a commitment to an increased budget. He looked at his age and knew he didn't have many seasons left as he's said numerous times that he doesn't plan to coach into his 70s. He thought Duquesne gave him the best chance to get those tourney wins that was the only thing his resume was missing. The fact it appears he won't make the tournament at Duquesne, let alone get tournament wins, I'm sure he'll view it as a mistake.

  24. I'm probably over generalizing, but I always like to turn Holiday weekends into 4 day weekends 😀 Just figure there are some that do the same or there isn't much getting done otherwise. Also the chance that all schools may not be back in session...but admittedly I'm just throwing something that might stick at this point lol

  25. Oh, and also remember that the listed MAC games aren't necessarily in chronological order. They've only released the teams we'll play and whether the game will be home or away. If the BUGS game does happen to line up as falling on the Saturday after our 3-week road trip, that'd be an ideal Homecoming game.

  26. I'm usually out of town that weekend, so I'm a fan. I imagine many will have off that Friday. Night game, nice weather, easy win, and new coach/players to be excited about. Should be a fun time.

  27. They play quarters (obviously) with the media timeout coming at the 5 minute mark OR the first called time out of the quarter. EMU called a TO on a loose ball situation 30 seconds into the 4th quarter, so they played the final 9+ minutes without a media. And yes, their media timeouts are 2:30 in length, a minute longer than men’s. Off the top of my head, I can’t remember exactly when she called that timeout up 13, but I think it was with maybe a minute or two before the end of the 3Q, when there is a 2:30 break between quarters.

  29. Yes, EMU is a team we should have beaten double digits, but this is #MACtion. Two BIG upsets at and near the top of the league tonight as Ohio gave Toledo their first conference loss on the Kitties Court and Ball went to Canada and delivered a knockout punch to the pre-season favorite Bulls (the heifers?) who've suddenly lost three straight. Okay, who noticed? More than half of Eastern's shots were taken by one player. She scored 32, but took 34 FG attempts and made only 13. Shades of former Zip John Britton (sp?). Also note, there is just one MAC team undefeated at home this season, 5-0 Akron. We HAVE to keep that up, especially when the Rockettes come to town. CORRECTION: Ohio outscored Toledo 28-12 in the 4th Qtr IN TOLEDO to shock the Rockettes! Whoa! 😲

  30. I'm honestly not that afraid of our chances against Tennessee, to be honest. Not saying we'll win, but I think it'll be competitive hopefully. They don't exactly run the SEC these days.

  31. So last night on the CMU broadcast the announcers referred to the Zips as the "Class of the MAC". So I wondered how true that was so I went back and looked up the stats (I am retiring in two more days so I have the time at work 😂). So I did a spreadsheet over the last ten years not counting this year (I didn't want to cherry pick and make sure I included all of Akron's titles since 2009) and these are the results: Team Avg Wins Avg Losses Regular Season Titles Tournament Titles Winning Seasons Buffalo 11.9 5.6 2.33 4 9 Akron 11.5 6.1 4.5 1 (also first seed when the tournament was vacated) 7 Toledo 10.8 6.9 1.5 0 6 Kent 9.9 7.7 0.33 1 (bastards 😂) 7 Ohio 9.3 7.9 0.5 2 (double bastards 😄) 6 BGSU 8.6 9.0 0 0 (since 1968) 5 EMU 7.9 9.3 0 0 3 WMU 7.9 9.5 0.5 1 4 Ball St 7.4 10.1 0 0 4 CMU 6.7 10.7 0.33 0 3 NIU 6.5 10.7 0 0 1 Miami 6.3 11.2 0 0 1 Kind of shocking to me that Miami is worse than everyone in the west. Their sole winning season was last year at 9-8. A lot of the West teams winning season are like 10-8, 11-7 records. And without the NCCA success Ohio is sort of a middling MAC team (but sadly I do expect that is changing under Boals). But from all of this its clear to me that the class of the MAC over the past decade has been Buffalo. Their one losing season was 7-9 a decade ago. With that and their NCAA tournament success I think it's pretty clear they have been the #1 team. If we sneak it back three more years and grab two more of the Zips tournament titles then maybe we have an argument. :-)

  40. FWIW, Jullian Lewis is "1000% committed" to Georgia Tech. Not sure how smart he is considering he just committed to a coaching staff on the Titanic, but he at least knows how to work the weather app/Google on his phone. "Akron, OH, weather... That's not Celsius?! Yiiiikkkkkeeeeesssss... Hey GT, I'm committed. 100%. No. 1000%."

  42. From reading all of the posts in this thread I can see one problem- there have been too many damn logos. The school needs to pick something and stick with it for a little while. Part of branding is recognition and that's lost when you are always switching things up.
