  1. It is crazy to think about how it could’ve been different with Chong out there this season. It seemed like late in the year we relied too much on the same old Malik and Dyson crosses and try and slide one past the GK. Those first few games saw a balanced offense that could play through the middle

  2. Special shoutout to Ryan Kingsford! Thanks for choosing to attend University of Akron. You are a class act, Mr. Kingsford. Too bad you are out of eligibility. We hope your foot heals well. Please come back to visit us. Once a Zip; always a Zip.

  3. Assistant Coaches getting cards for dissent I can live with a little bit. It can be argued that it is the AC's job to get the occasional card, from a strategic perspective. But it becomes a HUGE problem when players start following the coaches' examples and dissent every call. Coaches and players do not have the same role. WAY too much mouth from our players! And that shite got to stop right NOW! No card on the field is a good card unless it is earned in a tackle. Malik Henry clubbing the ball across the field after the play? Unacceptable. Not to mention Dumb. We have seen way too much of this lack of discipline recently. Coaches had best come correct on this. Bench mouths off to referee? OK. Fine. Players on field should not complain to ref. Let the bench do that. I expect this to change come Spring. And yes, the entire coaching staff will know my expectations.

  4. Continued Good recovery wishes for Gyuwon Chong. The young man did show an excellent ability to hold on to the ball in the midfield and make good passes into the box. I agree that the zips depended too much on crosses from the wings. However, I also feel that the zips did not have enough players in the box when the crosses were made. Everyone in the stadium would know that Malik was going to make a cross into the box and yet, Shooky or King would be the only zip in the box. That being said, Terence Okoeguale and Ashton Kamdem worked well together today on give and go's. I think that Terence Okoeguale is going to have a big year for the zips in his 2nd year. This team only loses Ryan Kingsford and Renato Kauzlaric. Ryan Kingsford broke his foot late in the summer. Most zips fans do not appreciate how Kingsford battled all year while not 100% healthy. Thank you, Ryan Kingsford for being a warrior all year. The future is very bright. They currently have the 3rd or 4th highest recruiting class for next year. Athletic director Guthrie indicated that the change to the Big East might generate a few more recruits. Caleb Borneo currently is the highest rated midfielder (by Top Drawer soccer) that has committed to a college next year. Mitchell Budler had a very good year first year as the goal keeper. Mitch is only going to get better.

  5. The better team won today. The first PK was a rubbish call. Budler got the ball. But the better team won. It would have been more competitive if Zips had Clapier and Shokalook.

  6. I am in the middle here. I LOVE the passion that the coaching staff has, but I truly think it creates a dissent towards our programs from the refs. Was overhearing conversations from knowledgeable fans saying how refs truly hate having to deal with the constant moaning from our coaches and players. We need to be a tad tougher. Good season, embarrassing ending.

  7. Actually you are far more of an embarrassing “fan” as anyone or anything in the high caliber program we get to watch. Have you said a good word about the team all season? The fact you don’t care about the bad officiating says it all about you. You don’t care. You come on here looking to antagonize people. Have you ever spoken with Jared about his so called bad behavior? Or coach Coppinger or Nanchoff? I bet you would not have the stones to call them out in person. You are that kind of “fan” who hides, yet still shows up to each game. Pathetic. Today is a hard day to be a zip, but we have a young team and this team is ready to win in the future.

  8. Ive explained it since the previous loss, which included embarrassing behavior by all leaders of the program. I don’t really care about bad officiating. When tasked with leading a championship caliber program, I expect far more from the people at the top then to sink to the level they have the last couple of weeks. Flat out embarrassing for Akron soccer. Scream like children at the referee, each assistant at the same time, and you get what you get. Sorry if this is offensive. 3-0 home loss in the round of 32 is pretty offensive too.

  9. Sometimes it’s difficult to recover mentality after such a p poor call early in the game. I’d say the NCAA should look into suspending that ref for that call (basically not understanding the game), but apparently they have a shortage of knowledgeable referees.

  10. Failure of culture? Not sure what that means. The best two offensive players we have are suspended. One of the others that has been forgotten had his ankle broken vs Michigan State. Was it silly to get a red card of course but failure of culture? The ref was horrible today - is that why we lost probably not but it didn’t help for sure.

  14. 10 conferences means ten conference champions that won championship games on the field. Why in a 12 team playoff do we reward only six of the ten champions and then have six teams determined by a committee in a boardroom. Won’t there be many years where determining a 6th and 7th conference champion be like splitting hairs? Why not reward champs 7 thru 10 with the same opportunity as champs 1 thru 6? Furthermore, if you are always giving six conference champs berths why are you only giving four champs priority seeding? Seeds 1-4 will always be taken by conference champs but why not seeds 1-6? I think the answer is fairly obvious. They want 13 people in a boardroom to outweigh on field results and for them to manipulate the rankings in such a way that any Group of Five conference champ will not get a top four seed, and most likely very rarely get a top 8 seed. I can already predict what will happen the first year of a 12 team playoff..... Accolades will be thrown around because finally a Group or Five champ will be invited but that champ will be seeded no better than 9 in a 12 team field despite half the field being teams that could not win their conference. No conference champ should ever have to play a road game against a team that did not win their conference in the playoff. Champ at champ, non-champ at non-champ OK but not champ at non-champ, no matter the team name or conference they come from. ON THE FIELD result must come before committee ranking. Why do we rely so much on 13 people in a boardroom to determine who is in the playoff when they said a playoff was created to decide it on the field? A boardroom is not on the field. I understand needing a way to seed but we need to maximize on field result and minimize opinion

  17. I think you all are missing the bigger point, if this game remains canceled and we can somehow get NIU canceled we can have fewer than double digit losses for the 2nd time in three years. (Channeling my inner Zip meister). 🤣

  18. Upon further review, it was actually when the Zips we’re down 20-3 that Faith hit her two big 3’s to give the Zips life. One at the end of the first quarter and then another at the start of the 2nd.

  20. This is one of the best posts on this board in a long time. The television networks want a playoff because they will make a ton of money destroying a great American tradition like bowl games in order to shovel crap into American living rooms. Yaaaaay In my opinion, college football should benefit the athletes, students, alumni, fans and general communities around the schools. How do you bring as many of these groups together as possible? A bowl game is a great way to do that. There are events at these games where many of these groups are together celebrating a good season and their school. These games are good clean fun for everyone and that is something that should be embraced and fostered not destroyed by TV networks. Maybe at an event a player encounters an alum and the starter relationship where the alum mentors the player and maybe one day hires the player. Maybe a player and another student meet at the game and strike up a lifelong friendship. Maybe a fan meets the players and realizes that almost every player is a good guy and the impression this fan has of the school grows. Last year I went to the Gator Bowl to watch Wake Forest. They stayed at the Omni on Amelia Island (I'm actually in the Courtyard on AI as I type this). There is a downtown Fernandina Beach that's awesome. When the players weren't playing they would go to the town and walk around together or with their parents. All of them spoke to every fan who talked to them and would thank them for coming to the game. I'm sure the same thing was going on at Jacksonville Beach where Rutgers was staying. Akron students, alumni, fans and general community need more of this in their lives. This is more important to UofA than a college football playoffs.

  22. Clark, Tribble and Hunter are a combined 2 for 28 from the 3 ball line. Hankerson is 5 for 19 so he is the best of the worse. I know it is very early in the season but I think everyone would agree that Hunter has been a major disappointment thus far. I am looking forward to the tournament but if our 3 point shooting does not improve we are going to have a tough time winning games against good competition.
