I am currently a sophomore, majoring in Graphic Design here at the University of Akron. I'm sure some people have seen some of my work here on this site, in the uniforms thread and other areas. I'm just looking for any information about getting an internship in the marketing dept. for the 2009-2010 school year. If anyone here has any information about someone I can contact, anything will help...

The University Of Akron Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is looking for hardworking, dedicated individuals who are interested in a career in sports marketing and thus would like to be a part of the 2009-2010 University of Akron Sports Marketing Internship program for the summer of 2009 or the 2009-2010 academic year.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to,

• Completing required weekly office hours
• Attendance to all designated Akron Athletic Sporting Event
• Distribution of Marketing and Promotional Materials
• Assist with the development and implementation of marketing plans
• Assist in outreach towards surrounding community and its respective organizations


In return for the completion of intern responsibilities, students will receive the following,

A) 110.00 Monthly Stipend-given at the end of each month
Free Athletic Apparel
C) 15% discount at the Zips Team Shop
D) Semester Credit Hours (Determined on an individual basis)
E) One of the best hands-on marketing and promotions internship experiences available.

I did intern in the athletic department but it was in the media relations area. I was in the School of Communication and they had an internship program where they would help look for an internship for you in the area you wish to go. I wanted to be in the sports area either for a newspaper, magazine, etc and they managed to have me intern in the athletic department. It's for college credit. I don't know if your particular school offers an internship program, but check to see. I enjoyed working in Akron Athletics, so if you have the chance to work there, do it. Good luck to you.
