Um, OK, but it was the last time Ohio was in the Dance, and it was front page news nationally. And they didn't merely squeak by Georgetown, they thrashed them buzzer to buzzer.

Apologize if this was posted elsewhere, I didn't see it, but the Zips were listed as one of the notable NCAA snubs. The Zips were fourth in RPI for the teams not making the tournament.

interesting to note that if not for the automatic bids the MAC would have at least 2 teams in about every year (if they selected by rpi). but shouldnt it also mean we should be a higher seed in the nit?

RPI is often cited because it's a simple 1-2-3-4-..... numbering system. But it's only one of several measures the NCAA selection committee uses.

RPI is not an absolute measure of a team's performance, but just one of many imprecise indicators that are ultimately subjected to human judgment.

There is no perfect system.

It does make you wonder if we would have won 2-3 more of those non-conference tilts.

Cinderella? No. Last time I checked, they beat Georgetown and then lost to Tennessee. I thought Cinderellas went into the Sweet 16, or Elite 8 before earning that title?

I find it interesting that we did not get home court, we are 5 and NW is 4? It could have been just the opposite. But of course NO big Ten team would come to Akron. That had to be fixed to some degree. I know I should bit my tongue but if OU really does well, maybe MAC will get more respect.

My disdain for anything OU is at an all-time high. But I think it's fair to assume that, based on solid play by MAC-East members throughout the season, the winner of the OU-UA championship game was destined to be a cinderella for quite a few prognosticators. It just so happens that the bad guys won this time around, in about as close a game as you can expect to see.

I'd like to believe that might be true. However, I think that the entire college basketball world is ingrained from years of experience to expect the MAC to only produce one semi-worthy team per season.

I believe that if OU makes a run in the NCAA tournament, the reaction will be that OU is an exceptional team in spite of its conference, and that the MAC and other teams in the MAC would gain no more respect than previously.

I really believe the only way the MAC gains enough respect to even be mentioned as a 2-bid conference for the NCAA tournament is for more than 1 MAC team to have really strong seasons -- only a few losses and several wins over top-ranked teams by multiple MAC teams.

I have season tickets for Akron...and Ohio, though I see more Akron games for obvious reasons.

I'll take that as a "yes, I do love the zips."
