This is a stupid idea and gives off an air of desperation. They feel the need to do something to show some kind of creative effort to market their program.

They did research and saw that their largest alumni base lives in the Columbus area. They have a game at home, during a break that creates traditionally poor attendance.

I think this is a good move by the athletic department. Take your game to your fans (they have a solid alumni base and good following) and get some publicity in the long run.

It does neither of the things you mention. It's creative out of the box thinking.

Probably more then want to drive up a snowy I-75 to an empty city of Bowling Green, OH to see a game.

If this was Toledo or Akron, I'd be against it. Bowling Green only has a population of 30,028 and with students away for Thanksgiving, I believe this is a great idea. The Crew own the stadium so it's a win for them as well.

Bowling Green is far from being in the middle of nowhere, like Athens or Oxford. They are essentially a few minutes outside of Toledo. Do you have an Ohio map?

For what it's worth, Toledo's metro is smaller than Akron's.

I'm not wanting to harshly criticize your comment. I just saw that you seem to feel as if Bowling Green is unlike Akron or Toledo, and may have a chance of drawing more fans if they are in a populous area for a game. And I am just pointing out that they reside only miles from the 4th largest city in Ohio. I'm sure you'd find that if access to an alumni base is the reasoning for playing this game in Cowlumbus, they surely have tons of alums right on thier doorstep in Toledo, just like Ken+ does in Akron. Stating that BG only has 30k population is just very deceiving, because of their proximity to Toledo.

BG is the same distance from Toledo as Akron is from Cleveland 25 minutes.

But you miss the point of the whole thing. BG has their largest alumni base in Columbus, and unlike an Akron, has a very strong and loyal alumni base.

Although Toledo is the 4th largest by City, it's 6th in Metro. To stay on subject, I believe it wouldn't be a bad idea for Can't to experiment with this idea as well.

They spent how many millions of dollars on a stadium renovations a few years ago? Doesn't sound like money well spent to me.

From a BG perspective, the publicity gained from the event may be more valuable than gate revenues for one home game.

Anyhow, the last neutral site game they played was six years ago, so it's not like this is a common occurrence. I applaud this decision.
