Akron coach Caleb Porter developed a friendship with Fleming years ago on the recruiting trail and considers the Xavier coach one of his best friends. Porter didn’t think twice when Fleming pitched the fundraising idea with the exhibition.

“I know when Devin was born and they found out she had Down syndrome it was a tough time for him, a difficult time, and I was there for him,” Porter said. “It was a no-brainer when he asked if we would come down this spring and do this fundraiser because of how connected I am to him.”

Porter’s involvement went beyond an invitation acceptance. He purchased 100 tickets to make a $500 donation.
