It is unclear why, but there is reason to believe he did not tell his players.

I wonder if Vernon Croft or Rob Battisson will take over as head coach? Croft has some has some good credentials if Battisson is following Pfau (if Pfau is going somewhere else).

Either way, very weird timing.

Surprising, if true.

I heard a rumor that the girls made it all up to teach gingers a lesson about believing everything they read on twitter haha.

LOL

If such a plan was in place, I'd surely be privy to it (if not orchestrating it). Sadly, this seems to be true.

As long as the CP leaving Akron is not Caleb Porter, I'm ok with that...

Agreed!

However, many are of the opinion that the womens team is (or was) on the verge of taking the MAC. There is no good reason Akron should not have an elite womens soccer program.

This is quite a setback. I wonder what the real story is.

I hear he was a victim of pfau play.

HAHAHAHA I didn't get it from twitter. It came from a horses mouth. The twitter readings (that I can't even get to because they are privatized) are just to add extra umph to the story.

Anyway, Akron pretty much just confrimed it to me. Meaning 'we'll have more later wink wink'.

Not that I needed it of course, I have always been 100% certain.

I am happy for Coach Pfau he has done well with the team here at Akron. I've gotten to know him through club soccer and he is a good guy and passionate about the game. The Akron women's team is looking good and with the recruits he has lined up for the next 2 years - there is no limit to what the Zips can do!! biggrin.gif

His record at Akron 30-36-7

It's time for a new coach that can turn the women's program in a national powerhouse.

Can Caleb run both? biggrin.gif

Mack Rhodes probably hired him at Akron right? That makes sense now.
ZachTheZip
The record doesn't tell the whole story. He took a program that might as well have not existed and developed it into a program that could compete in the MAC.

The pieces are in place for the next coach to succeed. Let's hope that fact attracts some top candidates.

Yeah. Also remember he tried to take coach Kest a while ago?

You are right on Zach. The program was probably ranked in the 300's when he got to Akron. It's not like he stepped into a top 10 program like on the Men's side. The Women have been working hard and will continue to have success.

Pfau seemed so passionate about getting UA women soccer to break through into the national ranks. And he was the right man for the job.

I don't know who they are going to hire, especially at this point in the off season. This is a big loss to the program.

I wrote about it again, sweet pic in this one!

No, I don't remember that one.

You have probably forgotten the Alamo too.
Surely everyone else here remembers when he tried to take coach Kest!
CincyZip
Does he have an obsession with our women's coaches or something?

I see Houston as a step down for Chris Pfau. Houston plays on a football field and averaged less than 200 per game last year. He turned the program around but I don't think he'd ever be the guy to take them deep into the NCAA tournament. It was time to move on for Akron as well. I'm excited to see who's hired to replace him.

This is a mixed blessing. Coach Pfau turned the program around, no doubt about it. But I have felt that his on field coaching did not keep up with his proven recruiting ability. The ladies have yet to evolve to a set style of play. At many times they were playing long ball w/o any results. Many close to the program wanted him to embrace a possession style of play like the men. That style could work in the MAC but we would need more talent to excel outside the MAC with it. Anyway his style was boring and frustrating to fans and players alike.

While I believe that his move is a step up in pay, prestige and league, we still can attract an exciting successor. The timing is curious but it nonetheless presents opportunity for us to improve. I think that will happen.

Go find us a gem TW.

Since Houston has no Mens Soccer program, I suspect Coach Pfau liked the idea of not playing in anyone's shadow. I'm also excited to see who Akron hires as his replacement.

AKRON HAS HIRED A NEW SOCCER COACH

they technically didn't hire a new coach, just promoted one that was newly hired in February.
