One behalf of the executive board and members of the Department of Athletics staff, we would like to thank you for your attendance and support of Zips athletics teams thus far. If Saturday is any indication of the future, the 2006-2007 academic year will be the biggest one yet for the AK-ROWDIES. Over 275 new members have signed up thus far and roughly 190 old members have signed up again for the 2006-2007 AK-ROWDIES. This week, there will be two additional opportunities for old and prospective members to become an official AK-ROWDIES member. On Friday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, representatives from the executive board will have a registration table setup outside of the James A. Rhoades arena with membership applications and information for prospective and old members. On Sunday, the AK-ROWDIES will have their first ever “T-Shirt Swap” event. The first 150 AK-ROWDIES to bring a shirt from another institution will have the opportunity to trade it in for an exclusive Zips t-shirt. Proceeds from this event will go towards Goodwill and we encourage members to bring any additional clothing items they no longer wear. Only one t-shirt will be given to each member that donates articles of clothing. If you have additional clothing items to donate it is greatly appreciated. Remember that old members can sign up for free, but you MUST SIGN UP AGAIN in order to be considered an official member. New members can sign up for the low cost of only $10.00.
On a sadder not, AK-ROWDIES President and Co-founder Jason Smith has decided to step down from his active duties. Any members interested running for the President position or helping out with AK-ROWDIES operations during the 2006-2007 academic year are encouraged to contact Jason at his email address jms86@uakron.edu. This is a unique opportunity to get real life experiences in sports marketing and management.
