Hey guys,
I was looking for some old school Akron cheers and chants to be used at the basketball games. Do you know of any? Also does any one have any new cheers and chants that you would like to hear this year?

Also I have been looking for some fotage on some of the bigger schools in terms of student sections. Does any one have any tapes or websites I could get ahold of?

I'll go back to my original thoughts though...the main focus should be on noise, noise, and more noise. "De-fense"..."Let's Go Zips"...Jumping up and down and just making noise....these cheers should remain the focus.

Not to say that we shouldnt come up with some good ones for OU (Bubba) and Can't, but we don't need one every game.

The problem, as I see it, is that the student section isn't that big in the first place. It's much, much harder to get a good "special" chant or cheer going. If the focus is on the 3 basic ones and making a ton of noise, the rest of the crowd can help out.

these may fall under the unappropriate category but my two favorites are

"nuts and bolts! nuts and bolts! we go screwed!"

and

"get off your knees ref! you're blowing the game!"

elevator! elevator! we got the shaft!

That's by far the best cheer i would love to see... if done right (with the arm motion) and if the band plays along, this would rock the JAR and have the ak-oldies jump in.

Talking about stealing cheers, that is straight up O-H-I-O from OU.

Yeah, I definitely agree there.

I mean, most cheers are ripped off of somebody...but we can't steal from teams that are visible to our fans and opposing fans, like OSU or anyone in the MAC...that'd just be tacky.

I know it would be stolen from OU's O-zone (because i've seen them doing it first) and this is where i liked it. But do you think that O-zone people created it ?

The NY Jets fans do it as: J ... E... T....S

So what are the rules ? we cannot steal Z-I-P-S from OU but we can steal OH-IO from the bucks? and the fear thing from Maryland ?

Let's just chant and do whatever makes a nice environment at the JAR and when the "cheering police" show up, i will take care of them

would you have any footage of the big schools student sections. Iam looking for some film so we can take this thing bigger then it has ever been. If we start now and learn from the best I feel that we will one day over take the best of the best. Let me know

I've never been to a Jets game, but I think their chant is:

I've heard some people say they would like to hear Zips said that way. Thank god we have A-K-Rowdy. As far as the "cheering police" go, anybody remember last year's OU game when they stole all of our signs? Man, I was up til like 3 AM finishing them all up. Bastards. I still have to make a new "Go Dance Team" sign.

Cheering is like Marketing, Marketing always steals ideas. After free throws it works because it is not OH-IO if OU did it every one would be like o they stole that from O-State but with ZI-PS its ours bottom line no one else can chant ZI-PS! I really don't think cute cheers are needed smg but we will never know what we can cheer unless we try them and see if they work...which some of them will but we can't find out unless we give it an effort and everyone goes along with it. Anyway women's game tuesday December 5th show up and listen to how some chants sound and find out what cheers work and don't work.

And in regaurds to Marketing what does the Marketing Department in Athletics need to do to get you to a women's game suggestions???

I think this is pretty cool before the game.

The roll call is hilarious too! The BAMA thing kinda reminds me of out trip to CMU. Their big thing is ""Fire Up Chips!" We kept saying Zips, of course there were only six of us, so it kinda went unnoticed.

Funniest cheer I've ever heard was in the late 80's when we went down to Murfeesboro for the OVC basketball tourney.

Austin Peay fans shouted, "Let's go Peay."


Just for the record, Peay is pronounced Pee!

at our wirc championship banquet we had to do school cheers. of course we did ak-rowdy! however, morehead easily topped us. the girls chanted morehead! and the guys replied yes please!
