Sometime yesterday, we passed Cocky as the overall #1 in the running for the Mascot of the Year contest.

I know I am preaching to the choir here, but we need to start burying some of these opponents while we have the chance. And remember, regardless of our overall vote total, we still need to win our head-to-head matchups from week to week. And this week's contest is still VERY CLOSE.

However, the first two weeks seem to be showing that Akron fans are voting more than any other school.

This is probably our best chance ever to get NATIONAL exposure for our school.

Don't get me wrong... I guess this capital one bowl thing is sorta fun, but if you statement about this being our best chance for national exposure kinda made me cringe.

I think what skip-zip means is Zippy will gives us GREAT exposure on January 1st when the bigger boys have traditionally played. No need to cringe ... our football team will give us good exposure athletically when we play in one of the lesser-known bowls sometime before that.

Having Zippy win a contest related to a Big Ten/SEC match-up bowl is great for Akron. We love Zippy and need to share her with the rest of the country in the national spotlight. Go Zippy!

Sorry Zen. Unless we can win a national football or basketball championship, this is all we have for now that would give us significant nationwide attention.

WKYC (Channel 3) started their 6 am news broadcast today with a stuffed Zippy sitting on the anchor desk and telling everyone to log in to CapitalOneBowl site and vote for Zippy. They also said they have the link on WKYC.com.

They talked about Zippy yesterday as well. Has anyone else seen them mention this during their evening or other broadcasts?

Our head-to-head matchup this week is still WAY too close. I think that everyone that is voting is trying to make sure they knock us out of that #1 spot.

WKYC news is the only Cleveland News that gives Akron any respect. I'm glad they're doing this.


When Akron played OSU, the lady on Cleveland’s ABC news channel said, "The Bucks get off to a slow start but fortunately made things happen in the second half to win."

Well, the new weekend sports guy on channel 3 said something like:

"now that the buckeyes have had two less than worthy opponents, they now take on the washington huskies."

Bleacher Bum...I suggest that you take care of this issue.


Having said that...channel 3 has, by far, the best commitment to Akron news coverage.
