Yeah, Akron is something like 1 of 60 universities competing in ESports. It's a huge growing industry between younger millennials and generation z. After some initial start up costs I can't imagine it costs much to operate, but I do think it will lead some students to pick Akron when they went somewhere else. Even though we all think it's dumb, it's probably the one thing Akron was forward thinking about and got right.

The ESports is a big thing.  Also, as Kreed or someone else pointed out, if Akron is in a position to worry about keeping Groce ...then amazing things have already happened with the program.  The key is not to make a Jim Christian/Saul Phillips style mistake.  Administration needs to have candidates lined up and ready to go if Groce and his crew (losing Fulford may also be a big deal) are hired away.  Someone on Kittens Attack noted that Groce didn't get a regular season championship for Ohio and another Kitten replied that he was good with what they got instead.  It's the AD's job to have contingency plans in place for this.

Attendance always lags behind success. By Akron's standards we're coming off 2 straight sub par years and entered this season with low expectations. Our season ticket base is probably at the lowest in quite some time. This part of the country will never be college basketball crazy. We had sustained success under Dambrot and we were still only averaging ~3500  a game.

i was posting on the other thread that having the AK Rowdies back riding an opposing coach like Boals would be hilarious.  But I think the fans are coming around.  After the game, LCJ was high 5ing with the student section.  Having everyone so close to the court is a real bonus in tight games.

Boals/Groce could be the biggest coaching rivalry in a long time in the MAC. Dambrot/Christian, Dambrot/Groce (we love you now, John haha), and maybe Dambrot/Hurley were all great. Coles was a fantastic coach but he never had enemies - even O-Who respected him. Boals has a nice crop of young talent and I only expect O-Who to get better and better. Great hire by BFE University.

When Miami beat BG the other day, the two coaches embraced and spent 30 seconds or so apparently saying nice things to each other.  We didn't see that last night.  Watching the replay, I saw Boals turn around near the end and chew out his assistant coach and couldn't tell why.  We really needed the old Rowdies riding Boals last night.

I still can't believe Groce has taken us from utter rubble to MAC Champions in 4 years.  When Groce took over the program he only had 5 scholarship players, only one of whom, Jimmond Ivey, was an every-game starter the previous season.

FWIW.  This is from today.  Butler in Spokane.  12th seed.

FWIW. And #13 v Oregon in Spokane.  Meanwhile, Dayton/Wright State in Cleveland.

I saw another one that still had Akron v Auburn in Tampa

Yikes! It's almost certain we will have to face OU or Toledo in Cleveland.

Playing around with the simulator looks like Zips are on yet another collision course with Eastern Michigan in Cleveland.   That Friday night Ball State/NIU game has a lot of consequences as well.

(Ball State has one of the better message boards. It's enjoyable reading as they tie themselves in mental knots trying to figure out the tiebreakers)

Better than Sophie's choice. ? And losing to Kent is never worth any perceived reward. I want total annihilation of PCCC so that they decide not to even bother with Cleveland. I want Mr. Pinky to be a brilliant shade of bright red all game. I want to hit them so hard that their future children will reconsider playing.

    Could you be more specific?

Just to be clear you're referring to the fact we loathed him because he was a great tournament coach and had our number, otherwise we have a couple more tournament appearances. Lost to his team in the championship in OT and by one point. Come one John you have some making up to do. ?

Essentially.  Last night when he was on the ladder swirling around the net, I had a PTSD moment without a T Shirt cannon being involved.

Agreed.  I like the noon game for the extra hours of rest.  The only thing I don't like is the lack of a crowd.

From a selfish perspective, as I mentioned it last night, I want a one seed as it says they won the conference and I want the opportunity to ram that up the ******* of the early Groce doubters who p!$$ed and moaned on here like selfish little girls.

I enjoy the night games.  I went to the Noon game against Buffalo last year.  Bad vibes.  I always remember KDs playing in the first evening session...for whatever reason...even though that wasn't the case.

I was 100% in on Groce.  And now we're seeing the John Groce we loathed when he was at Ohio U.  Coming full circle.  75% there.

This is going to be a wild ride in the MAC Tournament.  I can make an argument for any of the top 9 going on a run and winning it.  Certainly, some arguments are stronger than others, but it is wide open.

If Zips get #1 seed, getting by that Noon game on Thursday will be the biggest hurdle.  If they can get my that, my confidence will go way up.

I could see a team from a better conference talking to him, but I don't see a P5 taking him away, at least yet.  You have an awful lot of faith in Ravenna.

OWell Groce is beginning to act like he did when we hated him at Ohio. Man Boals ego had to be bruised when Groce rolled him in the second half.

Whether NIU beat them at this point is irrelevant since they can't catch them, But it is not possible for Can't to get a bye. The best they can possibly do in record is 10-8 And they would have to tie both Buffalo and Ball State would both have to lose so that they would all have 10-8 records And if that happens they lose the tiebreaker to Ball State and Buffalo because in round robin between the three teams Ball State went 2-1, Buffalo 2-2 and Can't 1-2. Can't cannot get a bye. And in that scenario once Can't loses that ends up handing the 4 seed to Buffalo. The only way for Ball State to get the four seed is to have that three-way tie or they win and Buffalo loses. And at one point this season CMU led the MAC West with a 6-2 record And now they have lost nine straight.

Hey, MD, thank you again for finding that tournament simulator!!
