Hard to adjust when you don't have the personnel to fix things.

Teams triple Freeman and play off of Ali and Tribble. The rest of the team fires up bricks and takes dumb, early shots.

The underclassmen don't talk on D and run through the motions during their offensive sets.

I need way less Dawson and more Prather. He's at least active on offense.

100% agree.  These seniors have to be losing the fire in their bellies when the bricklayer union is firing on all cylinders.  They all lose their confidence.   Benefit for fans and later game on Thursday and no expectations.  A win wouldn't cover up the stink.  its been this way all season.  These teams that play with nothing to lose take it to the Zips.

In 2020, we cut down the nets by just clinching a share, so I would imagine so. Don’t want to get into a situation where you wait til you officially lock up the 1 seed and have an awkward empty gym party like the 2017 team. I believe @NWAkron was our reporter live on-site for that event and the vibes were atrocious.

awkward event.  KD trying to convince himself that the 2017 team would win the MAC.  Since CMU is tanking, Zips need to win out to get #1 seed or need a loss by Toledo.  Getting the #2 seed likely puts Zips with Kent, Miami, and Ohio in the "Tulsa Region."

  3. Came home and watched some of the Toledo/NIU game.  Very similar.  NIU without 3 of their top scorers for both games.    Akron defense had to stop Coit.  Give him some 2s but stop the 3s.   Ali did a good job on him 2nd half.  NIU had a freaky couple games going on adrenaline.   Groce kept his guys fresh and that bit of an edge paid off.

  4. Some can say the "MAC Blows," but the MAC has been a stable Mid Major Conference for a long time.  A few schools have come and gone, but the vast majority stayed put.  Having the basketball tournament in Cleveland is a huge bonus for Akron and Kent State.  You want Akron to leave the MAC, then don't plan on attending the early tournament games.  With the addition of another team, this will set up a strong mid major situation of schools on equal-footing, especially important now that the likes of OSU. MI, TN, etc can directly pay athletes to come on board.  Well done.

We learned recently there is still hope for Ryan Prather. Talk about someone being buried under a pile of guard competition. He hasn't scored a ton, but he passes the eye test to me.

Made clutch FTs.  He needs conditioning.

Some food for thought.  Tavari has a higher rate of turnovers per minute played than Tribble, Scott and Thronton and has a lower assists per minute rate than the other three.  Do with that what you will.

    more double standards.

Akron beat Kent by 13 last night, sweeping them for the season series to sit alone in first place with 2 weeks to go. But the coach has a vendetta against the 3rd string PG. Message boards are hilarious.

    OMG.  Love it.

I thought Tavari was locked in on defense much of the game. And he looked good and is improving. But he took that specific play off. And then went "Oh Crap!!" and tried to recover, but it was too late. Then he fouled and added insult to injury. Groce is likely handing the keys to his offense over to Tavari next season. Tavari will get a lot of playing time and a high volume of shots, but Groce has to trust him. Tavari is doing it to himself. You can't take plays off.

Please explain.   What's "take plays off?"  not getting back on defense?

Got to agree with you here 81 Grad. Still I believe Groce will figure it out. Many players, especially Freeman, have said this team has another level in them. I think they should have that, but in reality they do not. They have too many weaknesses to go deep in the tournament. In fact it will be a challenge to win the MAC. The turnovers that plague this team are a puzzle. Why can't they be patient rather than trying to force a play? I am struggling to understand why Groce keeps starting Dawson. He has started to show defensive lapses and his shooting is atrocious. Nonetheless I keep telling myself to enjoy this team because next year's edition will be a big drop-off from past performance.

It's a puzzle, and all we can do is watch and hope some of these 3 balls eventually make it through the net in Cleveland.

I would tend to agree, but based off the success Toledo had pushing the ball in the second half, I expect them to make that a key part of their game plan. It really comes down to which team can dictate pace.

And who wants it more. 😏

I wonder if Dawson's Achilles injury is still haunting him.  I love the kid's heart and support of his teammates but he seems reluctant to go to the basket and has become completely one dimensional on offense.

    Conversation in the workplace today-

Co-worker:  "So, who do you think gets the OSU job?"

Clarkie:  "Hmmmm, Oats?  Miller?  Paris?  Kelsey?"

    Co-worker:  "What about Shaka Smart?"

Clarkie:  "**** Shaka Smart that arrogant little ******** **********!"

    I'm still having issues.
