  1. Tickets sold? Or butts in the seats?
  2. I'll come here right now and say it. We went to the Liberty Bowl in 2012 and had a great time, even though it was a bit cold and rainy for the game. It is nice when a town actually cares about its bowl. And the tie-in with the hospital is fantastic. We had a great time (until the second quarter). Beale Street was very enjoyable. The only problem was establishments that didn't expect so many of our fans. Places were running out of food and beer! I don't know how you could let that happen. Our beef is mostly, like yours, that we have to play an opponent on their home field with their hometown fans. However, we are hoping to make it a 50/50 crowd which should be fun. I've never been to one of those before. Our fans got their hopes up for the Camping World Bowl in Orlando, but we are not quite there yet. Maybe next year (if you don't steal a win from us in Ames). BTW, our last bowl game in Memphis was with Tulsa with whom we were playing a home/away series. We played them 3 times within 13 months. So, maybe there could be a third matchup with the Zips for us. Still, it would be nice to go to Florida this year.
  3. I saw Kato leave the game for a play because his helmet came off, then I noticed that he didn't come right back in. I wasn't able to watch closely (I was with my wife at a hospital). Was that seriously the way he got replaced?
  4. I am a bit jealous of you guys going to a bowl in Florida. We have never had a bowl in Florida. Hope you give Kiffin a good kickin'!
  5. Similar for us. Iowa State goes to the Liberty Bowl to play #20 Memphis (10-2) in their home stadium.
  6. If Wolf didn't catch that one, it looks like you could have had it! Great poise to stand in there to get the photo.
  7. I love the photo of the fumble recovery. So much drama in that single shot. Even catches the drama of a ref having to make a call in the moment.
  8. I think it was Kato who came in late in the Iowa State game, got chippy, and earned penalties. That was my first impression of him. Usually the backup QB is the most popular guy on the team. But that day, fans of both teams were upset with him.
  9. Wishing you guys all the best in Detroit tomorrow. I'll be wearing my Z pin tomorrow. Go Zips!
  10. I know Coe was viewed as a game-changing player. I don't remember the issues, but Coach Rhoads was quite a bit more lenient than Coach Campbell, so it must have been something substantial. I have a vague recollection of it being teammate issues in which current players didn't like him being able to come in and do what he wanted and move ahead of them on the depth chart. They may have put pressure on the Coach to do something about it. Our fan site, CycloneFanatic.com has a 176 post thread discussing his departure. Glad it worked out so well for him and for you.
  11. News flash. Matt Campbell named Big 12 Coach of the Year. http://www.big12sports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=10410&ATCLID=211687744 It will be especially noteworthy if Lincoln Riley of Oklahoma wins National Coach of the Year.
  12. Nope. But I've been to Mobile!
  13. Not sure of the pecking order of bowls, but is Boise or Mobile that much higher than the Bahamas? The payout might be better elsewhere, but come on, its the Bahamas!
  14. Does this mean that both Toledo and Akron passed on the opportunity for the Bahamas Bowl? Or did Ohio just take it first?
  15. This isn't news to anybody. And I don't think it will happen this week.
  16. Great photos. Hope you will be on the field for the MAC championship game.
  17. Come on. You clicked on a post in the Iowa State thread. What did you expect? I purposefully posted this here and not in other threads because it was game day.
  18. Surprising lines like this suggest that Vegas knows something that the public doesn't. But what is it? Looks like a pretty enticing bet to me.
  19. Lots of interest in Ames for this game with so many coaches from Toledo and northeastern Ohio. However, I suspect most of us will be cheering for Akron because it only helps us in our bowl selection to have beaten the MAC champ.
  20. Not sure how well you and Toledo travel, but with the proximity, I hope you have a strong turnout. I picked 26k for attendance. Make me a true prophet.
  21. Cheers. To the team. And to this sort of fan engagement.
  22. That was unbelievable to watch. Kent State may have edged out Kansas as the worst team in college football this year.
  23. Yes, I think schools lobby the bowls (and bowls the schools) they want. For instance, Iowa State got picked for the Liberty Bowl in 2012 ahead of teams with better records because they knew we wanted to be there and would bring fans. Our 35k-plus fans took over Memphis. Some of the competition is against teams in your own conference because bowls can pick eligible teams but doesn't have to follow the order of conference standings.
  24. We went there in 2011. Unseasonably mild weather. Fantastic experience (except for the game). So different than any other bowl. And quite the cultural experience for hicks from Iowa. I'm from Chicago, so it was fun watching our fans navigate the city. Too bad you can't tailgate in The Bronx. Instead, we threw a party at Dave & Buster's in Time Square! I have to say overall it was a great time.
  25. I love the Roo scary eyes. That is so different and wonderfully scary-looking. We can't seem to make a cyclone look scary, but you do it with a kangaroo. Score one for the Zips.
