  1. A former administrator told me he got fired but would not say for what.
  2. Interesting press release. Looks like Coach Chappel has convinced people he was on staff for the 2018 conference title and tournament run when he was no longer part of the coaching staff then.
  3. Everybody should be excited for the Spring League. I didn’t get to any games the last time Akron entered it, but I would assume playing meaningful games is better than playing semi pro/pro USL teams for the athletes. I am excited to see more of Reilly and Dreas with Borneo and new guys also coming in. I can only assume by the “makes changes” you mean to the athletes themselves? Moving student athletes on isn’t quite as simple as that. To move Joey Paulus, Will Jackson and Sammy Tojaga “on” is not quite that easy. Those guys love Akron Soccer. From a coaches perspective, I would assume they were in the line up for those very reasons. To suggest coaches were wrong for choosing them is pathetic. However, you have managed to go 2 months without just ridiculing the staff but you can’t see to post without helping yourself. Have you ever spoken with the staff about their ideas, plans and recruitment? I have not spoken with coach Embick personally, but I would assume his door with open for conversations. My guess is you will hide behind the computer screen. To say you trust the coaching staff is just a lie. You Havnt said a positive thing about them in a long time. Check your posts.
  4. It looks like Jason Shokalook is taking his professional deal a year early with Chicago Fire. I have been made aware that Malik Henry and Dyson Clapier will return and play their senior seasons with the zips.
  5. Where is the benefit of any team going to Huntington to play a team put together on unlimited scholarships to fund pros playing college soccer? Personally I'd prefer a Michigan State, Ohio State or anyone else tbh.
  6. Cannot possibly play Pitt, OSU, MSU, IU and Penn State along with the BigEast schedule. No one in the country plays a schedule that difficult. As a fan, it would be amazing. As a student athlete, it wouldnt be possible.
  7. With regards the Zips SOS and conference realignment, one has to suggest that it was the uncertainty of the BigEast that stopped our Zips playing Pitt and Michigan State like we have in the past. It's not like Embick has been afraid to play the tough teams in the past. I would assume Northern Kentucky will be replaced with Ohio State or Michigan State on next years schedule. Any team who lose 6-0 isnt the top 32 teams in any country. Pitt lost 6-0 to ND. Anybody can look at a strength of schedule (SOS) and see that Pitt SOS was not number 1. Half of their six wins were against Fairleigh Dickenson (95rpi), Howard (201rpi) and Duquesne (101rpi). They also lost 1st round of their conference tournament at home. So essentially we are validating their acceptance in the tournament based on playing good teams and losing?
  8. So very disappointed this years Zips were overlooked. I thought we would be in the tournament ahead of some others. The reasoning for Kentucky and Pitt getting in at .500 would be interesting to know. How good can a team really be winning 6 games (Pitt)? I believe that if Clapier and Malik were not injured for the end of the season, it would all be different. This Zips team were killing it when fully healthy in August/September. And lets be very clear about this.... VERY GOOD TEAMS came to Cub Cadet and got a good beating. Notre Dame didnt get near our goal and are a #4 seed. Crazy. With regards Coach Embick future, he is safe. No question he is the right man for the job. This is a coach who has had opportunities to leave for the pros. We cannot let him go anywhere else!
  9. Please please please just admit it…. the polls were more relevant than the rpi. 😎 Mr KnowItAll himself gets it wrong this time. Victory for the unmoaning folk out there.
  10. Nothing changed for me watching Joey injury on ESPN again. In fact, it made me think more about the play. Kyle Folds inflicted the injury to Joey (not Kaweki or Portas). They have history playing against each other locally. I started to think more and more about if the play was more intentional than it looked. Surely a D1 athlete has more control over their body then to just not kick the ball in that instance? I would go as far as saying he didn’t even need to make a play on the ball. It was a pk and red card for violent conduct. No idea how the play was missed by the AR. As for your “word of caution for younger players” I believe your word is disgraceful implying it was Joey fault the injury occurred for playing the ball with his head while sitting on the ground.
  11. Can put this comparison any which way you like to suit the agenda. For example, check all the top scores in World Cup history - very very few of them are recent scores. All around the era of Pete Millich. Pete was obviously an outstanding goal scorer but as I’ve spent so much time trying to tell you (not just you singular ME_Zip), it is a different sport now to 1961 and 2010. The landscape of World Cup and college soccer is clearly very very different.
  12. In truth, there’s some on this forum that won’t ever think the modern day college soccer/Akron Zips will ever be as good as the ‘olden days’ (2009 and 2010). Shokalook is equal to any other forward the Zips has had in the past 15 years. None of Mattocks or Bunbury went on a 4 game run like this. Let’s keep it going. Impressive win for the zips tonight. One thing is for sure, AD Guthrie enjoyed the win in the bleachers. I hope Josef Paulus recovers from that hideous play.
  13. Who would you like to see more of? Less of? I have heard and seen coaches in college soccer who sub too much. I guess you can’t win with some fans 😳
  14. There was over 35 minutes left when the pk was missed. That is a lot of time in soccer. Zips were not fortunate to get a tie as you suggested.
  15. Let’s not get carried away that the zips were fortunate to get a draw. St. John’s at no point looked like winning the game. The Stream was pathetic. SJ should be ashamed of themselves charging money for that. I can’t wait for Clapier to return.
  16. All of Zips first 8 opponents RPI went up tonight.
  17. I work overseas for the Spring months. I rarely get to games. I wont comment on performances based on scores I see on twitter - unlike many on this forum.
  18. So to be clear, you ARE comparing Notre Dame to Wright State/Oakland? 🫡
  19. Nice analysis. I agree with it all. I am glad it's not all doom and gloom and full of the same old boring heads on this forum who are nothing but negative about this team.
  20. Shooky alone had 4 good opportunities that he scores on most days. How can you say all the saves were from 'headers from far distance'? Shooky had a breakaway, and 2 chances from 6 yards out on corners that the goalkeeper saved. Nano had a shot from outside the box also. Alone, we have mentioned majority of chances and I am sure we are missing some. In fact, I would say we didnt create any header chances in this game. The goalkeeper was outstanding. One of the best performances on Cub Cadet in many years from an opponent. With regards Marshalls scores, you have just made them up? They have not been winning 'games like this' 4or5-0. Comparing any ACC team to Oakland and Wright State (the teams they beat by those scores) is crazy. Didnt a bad Akron team beat Wright State 7-0 a few years ago???
  21. What exactly did you find “rubbish” about the game? Zips played great. Best crowd of the year. Zips owned that game from minute 1. If 24 shots and 12 on target is “lulling” then I think you need to take your grumpy ways to a new sport. There’s probably not a team in the country getting 12 shots on target against any ACC team this whole year.
  22. Very lackluster first half performance from the Zips. Credit to Embick and the staff at half time because the difference in the team after the break was easy to see. Zips were flying from 2nd half onwards. I always felt that we could score goals with Paulus, Shokalook and Malik playing in the attack. By the end of the 90, I felt we deserved to win. A lot of opportunities for goals with the Prov goalkeeper making 2 nice saves on Shokalook head chances. Also, seeing Will Jackson playing striker brought back some memories!
  23. In that case, Adam Najem was a bust? The 2016 team, his senior year was one of the worst Akron seasons in my 18 years watching.
  24. Wake up. The name of the thread is 2023 Rankings 🤦🏼‍♂️
