  1. Do we know who is on the new staff? Haven’t seen anything posted…
  2. That’s the most important thing, we have an opportunity to go hire a real coach now and need to take advantage of it. In retrospect, imo we probably let the wrong coach leave, because that first year’s roster had lots of talent, plus other high end recruits committed (including the 2022 horizon league freshman of the year), but that’s water under the bridge. We are where we are and Guthrie needs to go get someone that can build a program. Unfortunately they’ll basically be starting from scratch, again…
  3. I get the point about poaching the roster, but is it really our roster or was it his roster? If the players have zero relationship with the head coach is it really surprising they left? It’s not like somebody forced them to leave…You’d think their head coach could convince them to stay? No?
  4. Any of these names would be huge upgrades and give the Zips a real chance. Not sure about Mee, never was able to find much success at Toledo and didn’t seem to have much positive impact the last two years.
  5. Go look up his salary. More than every MAC head coach except two.
  6. I appreciate it. Follow the program pretty closely and all of Midwest baseball. Hoping they go hire a real college coach to get things going. Whoever it is will literally be starting from scratch which is unfortunate after this guy had four years to get something started.
  7. Let’s just be honest. He was a complete joke. Zero relationship with the players. All the best ones left and won elsewhere. It was cool to have a household name, but you can’t go home to Florida for months at a time and kill it in college sports. Kids today don’t have a damn clue who players from the 80s and 90s are. Go hire a college baseball coach. Not some “name”.
  8. No argument intended. The point was just that the Zips appear to be a real mess and teams with fewer resources, that were literally among the worst teams in the nation two years ago are now competitive. To say Akron would win more with an easier schedule seems ludicrous as over the last two years they’ve lost to several non-d1’s. As a rule when d1’s schedule non-d1’s it’s a blowout. Im not sure who our Zips could possibly schedule and expect to beat at this current juncture. They need to get a lot better and that doesn’t seem to be happening right now. It’s very difficult to give up 20 runs in a game unless the wind is blowing out at 20 mph and even then it cannot be the norm. Akron just walks guys at an alarming rate and statistically plays very poor defense. Appreciate the banter
  9. Coaches do scheduling…several years in advance. At the end of the day you’ve gotta win some games and they’re winning a heckuva lot more than our Zips. Citing RPI for Midwest DI’s is pretty useless. Most of the MAC and Horizon (almost exactly equal conference according to every metric) are in the 200’s. You can only beat who you play. Our Zips give up 15 and 20 runs on a regular basis. Oakland has been awful forever and isn’t anymore and there’s a pretty clear reason…. Coaching matters. Point being, it doesn’t matter who Akron plays, they’ve got to get a lot better to be competitive. Best players and pitchers all graduating and others have left.
  10. Might want to double check that…. Seems they’re having their best season ever and have beaten Michigan, Pitt and Wright State (4 times).
