  1. She was going to transfer from Miami. 10ppg. Great player.
  2. All true statements. I think my main point was missed. Not saying anything negative towards the group. My main concern is the lack of an extension of even a year or two. I’ve never once said I was content with a record of middle of the pack. What I’ve repeatedly said is that this is a program that has been better, by all measurable metrics, for this coach’s tenure. It takes several years to gain a reputation in the MAC to build your recruiting status. In the last 5 seasons, and understanding how impossible the COVID year was for playing, the players, and mostly for recruiting, how well this program managed. I felt that her, and her staff, deserved another year or two to see where it was heading. we all know the university is struggling financially. Women’s Basketball is not a high priority for this university based off of its history with the program. So I don’t have a warm fuzzy feeling that this move was to create a better program. I’m just a fan. No kids in the program. I am friendly with the coach and her staff but that’s it. I want to feel good about where this program is heading. I love watching women’s bball. I wish we had a wnba team closer than 5 hours away. My loyalty to the MAC is Akron. I don’t feel any of us are owed some explanation for her departure. I just wish we could have a reason for hope and enthusiasm. So far it doesn’t look that way. Yes, all of the seniors that were planning a return are done. I know for a fact that Bass is the hottest commodity in the MAC right now due to Coach Jackson’s departure. I can only assume that she is looking at the possibilities that are out there. She has two years left to play for a title.
  3. Again, you’ve got it all wrong. This has nothing, and everything, to do with the coach. If you can coach and put a winning season on the floor I’ll watch you. This is about the Administration. I buy my tickets for entertainment. I have no stake in the team. I don’t get paid if they win. I don’t get money based on bracket placement and so on. We are fans of women’s basketball. My time and resources are of some value to me. Put a winning program together and you’ll get both. Again, the Admin has given no reason for letting the Coach go. I’m not stupid or delusional. I understand how difficult it is to build a lasting program in a competitive mid major like the MAC. Especially with the transfer portal. We had what we all would want out of the current program. Without explanation, reason, or numbers, they decided to not renew. That’s fine. It’s done and over. I keep bringing up the fact that we have(had) the lowest paid coach in our conference. Does anyone on here actually believe that the university is looking to spend more money? Honest question. We know they couldn’t even afford to send free emails out promoting wbb. if Coach Jackson couldn’t put together winning seasons, struggled to keep players here, and failed to get good quality recruits, I would be the first one to stand up and demand better. This current AD is taking some of this budget and moving it elsewhere. There is no intention of building a winning program and, like I said, my time and resources have value to me. we’ve all heard the expression, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Well here we are.
  4. I’m not sure I completely follow some of the logic here. Through the powers of deduction we can all guess it’s Brewer. She was so good that when she transferred to Toledo she ran into the same issues she found herself in here. She ended up quitting. Coach Jackson coached the entire season and nothing was found in the investigation and it was closed. The only coach with a consistent winning record was non renewed. She was also the lowest paid coach in the MAC. As a fan that wants to be back year after year, I still want to know: WHAT IS THE NEW DIRECTION? Judging by this programs history I don’t see them spending more money to build a better program. My wife and I didn’t buy season tickets because this is a dynasty type league. We aren’t USC or Stanford. We bought tickets for the entertainment value. Put a competitive team on the floor. Win more than you don’t. Build a program that can compete year after year. Again, we had that. I don’t see this being a decision to spend more. I don’t see a good team for several years. There are too many options for the MAC and these young ladies to choose from than to be part of a rebuilding program with no consistency at any level at the University. I’ll go watch them in Cleveland. But until they prove me wrong this will be our last year as season ticket holders.
  5. Loyal, I’m just taking about optics. I would’ve signed him too. But I would’ve seen what next year looked like for WBB. NW, I plan on keeping my Men’s BB seats. I kept them when Dambrot left.
  6. I guess my point is this: Kest took over a bad program. Fair point. I’m not taking anything away Coach Kest. She did a lot as coach here. We can pick apart any season, any game, at any point. The frustration lies in a program that’s starting to get the recruits. A program that is doing better, statistically, than the programs average over time, and is doing it from a financial advantage. I think we’ve all said we thought giving her one more year to see if the trend would stick, the recruits would come, and key players would stay. Maybe the frustration for me is that in the same week we let go of Coach Jackson, and everyone has posted the numerous reasons to justify, the same administration extended the contract of a program that’s 100% worse! I stated earlier that Charles told me in person that he could sell more tickets to WVB if he gave them part of WBB’s budget. Yes I was frustrated with the potential for this season vs the actual performance. I’m upset because that may end up being something we hope for in the future. They’re not going to spend more money on this program. They’re not going to bring in a coach at a higher value. They won’t spend money on a staff and budget like we have now. So where will the players come from? How will the transfer portal help us? Thank god we moved morehead to the middle of the pack for his 2 wins.
  7. We want them to win. We all want championships. But this isn’t a professional sports team where the players are on contracts and they’re waiting on a new head coach. No one disagrees that this team fell apart after that loss to BG. If this were the pros under your philosophy they would just bring in a new coach. But this is literally throwing the baby out with the bath water. The entire staff will be gone. Most players will leave. All the talent is gone. A new coach will have to start from the bottom and build a completely new program. It’s a total dismantling of the program. It’s a bit extreme. Loyal, to your point on Kest: 12 years. 5 above 500 seasons. Happy for a title. Jackson: 5 years. 4 above 500 and the COVID year. If you think that what the admin was putting them though behind the scenes didn’t affect some of this outcome then what’s the point. NW, I don’t think that higher pay would’ve made her a better coach. Real support and job security may have. Again, college is about recruiting. These young ladies made their biggest life decisions to come play for HER. When there’s behind the scenes drama we don’t see it affects what we see on the court. Charles came in and wanted to get rid of a winning coach. That’s it. He actually said to me that he could get more ticket sales at women’s volleyball if he gave them some of wbb budget to them. He’s a business man. loyal, you won’t have to worry about beating any of those teams. Under Charles you’ll never see another competitive team.
  8. Nobody would disagree with the BG analogy. As I stated earlier I’m a fan. So yes, I too am disappointed. Not sure what could’ve been had she been offered another year or two. How that would’ve affected this season. Still the best coach we’ve had. Now, again as a fan, we are screwed for at least 2-3 seasons. Probably more. Keeping a coach that has a proven record, one that includes the COVID year, that is the lowest paid in your league, isn’t charity. Maybe find a way to help them.
  9. A lot of people posting with opinions and partial truths. I don’t have a daughter on this team or any other teams at Akron. I’m a season ticket holder for women’s basketball for the last 7 seasons. Some actual facts about this program and their head coach. She’s is the lowest paid coach in the MAC. So all this talk about the incredible support from the administration is based on what? So they are the third highest budget for Akron sports? What’s that say about Akron if she’s the lowest paid coach in the MAC? Do we think that’s going to help us recruit a higher caliber coach?(I did my own fact checking and the posting about chartered flights was also a stretch. They chartered for the NIU game because it was a week day and they are still students! A far cry from what they were trying to get you to believe) Speaking of the coach, this program has only had 12 500 or above season. Even if they lose the rest of the season, Coach Jackson will own 4 of them in her in her 5 years as head coach. That includes the COVID year. Charles, who likes to say this is a business and is probably one of the people on here, seems to think that 4 500 or better seasons from the lowest paid coach isn’t good business? This program has improved every year. Recruiting has been solid and some good talent was heading this way next season. Based on what we’ve seen we could have had the winningest coach this program has ever had. In addition several players were sticking around. This team was building and making a run. I’m sure the coach knew that Charles was looking for more than what this season was looking like before making a decision on her future. She did her best to earn an extension and last week he let her know she wasn’t being renewed. She told her players on Thursday. She owed that to them. They are athletes that came to play for her. Decisions they were making were based on her being their coach. If you think that a group of 19-21 year old ladies weren’t affected emotionally about their own future by this news you’re just oblivious. So yes, Charles tanked this team and the game against our rivals. He may be a lot of things but I don’t think he’s stupid. Three won’t be back for sure. I’d bet that Reagan hits the portal button. She’s too good to be on a rebuilding team that will take several seasons to rebound from this. So it was fun watching a really good coach build a program that went from fifty people a game watching into a competitive team in a very competitive MAC league with some really good attendance. But there’s a reason Akron has only had 12 500 or better seasons in its history and this decision shows they don’t care if they have 12 more. Charles will be gone in a few years, like every AD and President before him. Us fans, the ones that support these programs year after year just got kicked in the gut, again, because some outsider came in and thinks he’s a business man.
  10. I’m not arguing the many great points. There are many things I find unacceptable with the play right now. I only want to point out that this team and staff is on an island. It would be great to the administration care for them the way they do mens programs. Better to fix the problems you have with some support.
  11. I couldn’t agree more. This team has consistently out performed the experts pre season rankings. Coach Jackson has out performed her predecessors (minus the COVID years). Someone said early on in this thread that coaches don’t get extensions until their contracts expire. But those extensions help recruit and retain good players. She has been able to bring in some really good talent. There are only a few missing pieces and recruiting like she has should get them there. Thank god they just gave an extension to the brand new football coach and his 2 win season! I sure hope the Beacon is paying attention to what’s going on with this administration and how it treats women sports.

  13. There’s a lot to break down here. I don’t disagree with what most say on here. Valid points and arguments to be made after a game is played. These two schools play each other very hard. It’s a great rivalry. The reffing was a huge factor in tonight’s game. Not that they missed layups or turned the ball over, but in very close games they can decide an outcome. Tonight was just that. Coach Jackson has really turned this program around. She has made those tough choices and created some luck for this program.
  14. I think the best exposure for these ladies would be for the administration to stop treating them like an inconvenience and more like a team under their watch. I get at least one, most times more, emails per week about men’s games. Nothing ever about upcoming women’s games. And we are season ticket holders for both. The bourbon night flyer and emails never even mentioned there is a women's game too! I’ve been emailed plenty about the “white out” for Kent on Friday but never a mention that the women hosted Kent tonight. Maybe if the administration showed they care about the Women’s Basketball program fans would come out to support them.
  15. It’s coach Jackson, show a little respect. “We would’ve won if we made our layups” and then you go and bash the coaching. Not a word about the worst reffing we’ve had all year taking out two of our best players. Especially in the last 3-4 minutes. The bench came up big bringing this to a two point game. This was a dog fight from the start with exceptional defense on both sides. Coach Jackson is well respected around the league and if this administration doesn’t renew her contract because of a 2 point loss to Kent with the calls we had tonight then they shouldn’t be in administration. This is the MAC. This is how the MAC plays.
  16. Curious if people are picking apart Coach Vanderveer like this today. Held to 46 points by an unranked team. Wonder what their message board looks like
  17. I think if you look at the last two seasons of Jodi they were 2-16 and 3-15. Coach Jackson inherited those recruits. Even though she was part of that process, she wasn’t the final say. Regardless, she’s building a dominant program. She’s well respected and the fans love her. She’s had 2 winning seasons in the mac. One ok season and the COVID year. I’ve noticed people bringing up Dawson a lot. She brought her here and built a winning team around her talents. As soon as she leaves she builds another team around the talents of the players she’s brought in and they’re off to the races. I understand wanting to have winning programs in the big 4. You’ve got great talent in Groce and Jackson. Both have proved it. Give this poor woman a contract and figure what to do with the empty stadium and failing football program.
  18. I’m not sure I comprehend what you are stating here. Does Charles think this, or any, team will go undefeated in the MAC? The top two teams in the league played and Akron came up short. They made some mistakes in the fourth and couldn’t get a stop. They turned it over and then the wheels came off. It happens. At the end of Saturdays game this team has 3 losses and only 1 of those is in the MAC! They had some impressive wins against some really good teams and losses to teams ranked in the top 5! The place was packed Saturday. They’re fun to watch. If someone thinks there are dynasty schools in the MAC they’re sadly mistaken. It’s a tough conference and it moves around a lot for both men and women. Last year they played in the tourney and won their first game and then lost to the champs. Let’s quit pretending that this has anything to do with your statement and let’s start taking about what it’s really about. Charles wants his own people. Simple as that. The effects of what damage he’ll do will be felt by the loyal fans packing the place for long after his SHORT time here.
  19. Coach Jackson has taken this team to a new level. Turnout is much higher than the previous coach. Recruiting has been first class. The bench is deep. They’re winning against good teams. The numbers and records speak for themselves. How is it she hasn’t been offered a new contract? Let’s hope it’s not because she’s a woman.
