  1. Logged on at the in-laws, so will keep it brief. Went from looking like a great afternoon to turning out to be a stinker. Just went to gozips.com to get stats and read JD's postgame quotes. NOTHING. Did anyone even travel with the team from sports info? Thats pathetic. The game story is two lines long. Now click over to gobearcats.com. Full game story, quotes, notes, and audio interviews from their coach and 5 players. Worst part? I lost a bet and had to take the in-laws out to dinner tonight. Nippert was a nice stadium. The building next door (Lindner?) was awesome. Walked around a bit before kickoff and was impressed bigtime. Saw UAM and MT. Saw Tommy G doing his pregame show. Good showing of zips fans. I am whipped. Will post more tomorrow from home.2-4
  2. Cincinnati - LMiami, OH - WToledo - LBGSU - WBuffalo - WOhio - WWMU - W7-5. Probably not enough for a 2nd straight bowl.
  3. Tommy G interviews JD & Kris Kasperek now on the lead story on the bearcats website.Click Here
  4. One more thing, my brother-in-law tells me Tommy hosts a pre-game show outside the stadium. I suggest we all go heckle him a bit.
  5. Good catch THOR. Talked to the wife, and we are making the trip down Friday, spending the weekend with the in-laws, and going to the game Saturday. Thinking of tailgating. It looks like they have lots to do it in and have a pre-game thing going on outside the stadium, cattitude. Sound familiar? Smells like Zipsfest on steroids to me. Hope to see lots of Akron fans at nippert stadium!
  6. UA Fan......I agree on both points. Really wish we could get similar features on the NEW gozips.com, but as it looks, we don't get much besides a bad looking website. Also kind of funny to hear tommy g on the other side interviewing our guy. They have done interviews together before, but it is weird hearing his voice talking about being at UC. From the looks of the website, Mike is keeping Tommy pretty busy down there.
  7. Now that I am pretty sure I am going to the game Saturday I decided to kill any chance of being productive this afternoon by doing some research and find out how many people at UC have Akron ties. Here are the results:Mike ThomasMike WaddellTommy GJemaul GroceTommy G's ColumnMT's forumI know, I know.....nothing better to do. But in my effort to get excited for Saturday I started reading up on the Bearcats.
  8. As the day goes on starting to feel more like making the trip south to cincinnati. Will discuss with the wife tonight. As far as tickets are concerned.....Scott Hogue messed up my orders on more than a few occasions. I heard differently on why he left (through a friend who knows some folks over in athletics, so take it for what its worth), but I was told he was more or less forced out. Got a new job in NC to save face. Either way, a loss against cincinnati would mean major home attendance issues the rest of the way. Thats a problem regardless of who is in charge of the ticket office.
  9. Just talked to my brother-in-law, he says as far as he knows kick-off is still at 3:30. I am pretty sure 6-6 makes you bowl eligible this year with a 12 game schedule.I am also pretty sure 6-6 won't get us in a bowl game.
  10. That game made me so sick, I couldn't even bring myself to post all weekend long. Took the family and expected a great day. Came home feeling ill and THEN remembered that I have to wear a Can't State tie to work this week because I lost a bet with a co-worker. Trying not to panic, but 0-2 in the MAC with a loss to Can't STATE stinks. Was going to take the family down to Cincinnati this weekend to see cousins and the Zips and right now don't even want to. Maybe I will regain the enthusiasm to go later in the week. Does the ticket office have an allottment of tickets? My brother in-law is a big Bearcats fan and said he was there last weekend and the team ran the ball well and shut down the Redhawks on offense. We NEED to win this game. Enough ranting from me, anyone else headed South?
  11. According the the Zips game notes, McClain will be wearing #80, but he is not on the 2-deep. CLICK HEREThe soccer team plays Friday night and it looks like mcclain has started every game this season so I imagine he will catch up with the football team after the game against WMU?
  12. I guess that means no soccer broadcasts this year. Not like it matters, they aren't our best program or anything.
  13. Zips lost to UCSB today 5-0. Caleb got a red card in his Zips regular season debut and now has to miss game number 2. Report on gozips.com says the refs were bad, but 5-0 is embarassing! Ken Lolla's zips never lost by 5!!! Does anyone know what happened?
  14. I see per Rasors blog that someone has been hired to replace Tommy G. Does anyone know if the new guy is going to do soccer? Unfortunately, I am on the road a ton in the fall and feel like I am going to miss a lot of games. Tuning-in on the web would be a nice way to keep up. Does anyone know?
  15. Did a little research and as speculated before, Gelehrter is in Cinci. Click HereIf you go to the football page they have practice report interviews up. Looks like UAM is wasting no time putting Tommy to work. Wish we had practice interviews on gozips.com. Guess I can forget about listening to the game this weekend. Ah well. Wife will probably be happy I won't be glued to the computer while on family vacation. Such is life.
  16. Going to be out of town this weekend and wanted to know if the boys westfield cup games are going to be broadcast? Does anyone know? Is there any information on gozips.com? I know a lot of games were broadcast last fall, was hoping they would do even more this fall? Anyone?
  17. I heard it too. While informative, I thought it was rather low-quality.I believe WZIP can not run commercials since they are a non-commercial radio station. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
  18. With football season right around the corner does anyone know when the coaches show starts back up at the Winking Lizard and who is going to be hosting now that Tommy G is apparently gone South?
  19. I know that Cincinnati is in the Big East and all, but I saw they are picked to finish 2nd to last in the conference. Does that still qualify them as a BCS school? (Just kidding UAM & MT)
  20. Seems as though this new addition of ISP will help marketing? Does it mean my season ticket form will be without typos for basketball? Does anyone know what else this provides for the university?
  21. If this is true, a tough loss for radio team. I always enjoyed listening to Tommy G, especially when he did the NCAA tournament on soccer. If you are leaving, best of luck Tommy G! From Roger Brown's column today. Source
  22. Met Mario once or twice, he was always a class act and always took time to talk to the kids. With this thread in mind, read this in Roger Browns column today in the Cleveland Plain Dealer:How much respect is the University of Akron starting to earn as an athletic program? Well, other Division I schools have been hiring away numerous UA assistant coaches in recent months: Zips football coaches Jim Pry and Terrell Williams have been named assistants at Big Ten schools Illinois and Purdue, respectively. Men's basketball associate head coach Shaka Smart has been hired by Clemson. Women's basketball assistants Geoff Lanier and Susan Blauser have taken jobs at Ohio and Dayton, respectively. Men's soccer head coach Ken Lolla has taken the same job at Louisville. And Mario Sanchez, Lolla's assistant at Akron, is now head coach at University of Nevada-Las Vegas. Source
  23. Good news for those of us who likely can't make the drive to Penn State....http://gozips.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/spe.../061406aab.html
  24. Lateral move? Are you nuts??He is going to the BIG TEN. From the MAC. I know you all consider us a Big East caliber team, but we don't pay Big East money, we don't compete with Big East teams, and we certainly are not close to the level of the Big Ten.This is a very good move for Coach Pry. I wish him well.
  25. Yes, it would be awesome to win both of these trophies.HOWEVER, the Big East will not be calling the Zips anytime soon. Stop thinking that way. Akron is a mid-major school and will likely always be a mid-major school. Accept that and embrace it.
