  1. Oops! My bad I usually remember those things better.
  2. What a wonderful job by the coaches reviving this program. It is hard to believe that 4 years ago we had 3 back to back to back one win seasons. I tip my hat to coach Bowden, coach Amato, and all their staff. I remember 2 years ago (at the end of the 4-8 season), I had a conversation with coach Bowden where he said something along the lines of him being happy to go to houses and talk to families and not have to talk about the 1-11 record. Imagine what he will do with recruiting after an 8 win season. It is also time for this community and alumni to support this program and put their $ where their mouth is. #GOZIPS
  3. Skip-Zip is correct. Arkansas LR was one of the 7 losses in the 26-7 season in 2006-2007. IIRC, the other losses were Illinois-chicago, Toledo, Nevada, and 2x Miami (Doug Penno's infamous bank shot)... and there is one that I can't remember.
  4. Yes. These two teams are mediocre mid majors, just like we are. We have to consistently beat our peer mediocre teams before can look down at them. That's why playing copping state and bethune cookman achieves absolutely nothing.
  5. No one expected Zips Soccer to be close to the college cup this year. Kudos to coach Embick for taking this team that far only in his third year. That will definitely help him recruiting in the near future. Also, keep in mind that even in Porter days, we didn't win it all in the first appearance at the college cup. You have to crawl before you walk...and coach Embick has this team more than crawling. As usual and more than ever, GO ZIPS!
  6. While some people are always talking sweet 16 and top 25, most of us are realists and know the truth. Let me refer you to a conversation from 2 months ago: http://zipsnation.org/forums/topic/34389-preseason-rankings-cbs-sports/
  7. I am not sure what in all your post can be used against the guy. Going downtown to reach out to the community, talk about UA's contribution to the park, or promoting our athletic success. I think that these are all great things for a president to do. The clueless ones, in my book, are those who booed.
  8. I am not sure if we will "get" better. We will certainly "look" better because we will be playing crappy teams over the next 4 weeks. After all, this is why we avoid scheduling decent teams in our OOC schedule. We need to inflate our record and talk about the consecutive 21 win seasons.
  9. Down by two you have the ball with 14 seconds left, what do you do? Take a stupid, deep three with 7 seconds on the clock
  10. If we loose this game we can kiss our chance of any at large consideration good bye.
  11. Green Bay is a bad team. They are picked to finish sixth in their conference. They are still without a D1 win and their record is 0-3. If we are a good team as we like to think that we are, we should be able to handle this team and come back from Wisconsin with a W.
  12. Great job by the Zips finishing the game. KD getting the technical is absolutely the right thing to do. So, is Antino going to be a backup PG when Noah comes back???!!! what a great problem to have! Oh, and... and also:
  13. I love how we (as zips fans) are trained to lower our expectations an start looking for excuses even before the beginning of every big game.
  14. This is the worst basketball I've seen in a long time. I am not sure how this game prepares us for Arkansas.
  15. No one is suggesting de-emphasizing the local/regional connection. The local students who want to go to Akron for whatever reason will still do that. They won't mind having more classmates from Lima or Dayton or Lancaster, would they? The most interesting thing about discussions on this board is the two extreme mentality. When I bring up the crappiness of our home BBall schedule, the argument is that Duke will never come to the JAR. Now that we're talking about elevating the school's reputation and attractiveness, you're throwing Harvard and Yale in my face? President Scarborough was tasked by the board of trustees to elevate Akron to the level of OSU, Cincy, and Miami. NOT HARVARD! By the way, even with the recent tuition hikes, Akron is still cheaper than all three schools mentioned above. Yet, they attract more (non-local) in state students than we do. I agree with Balsy, It is common to see NEO students going to OU, BG, UC, Miami, OSU, etc. The reciprocal is not of the same magnitude. Why shouldn't we attract students from BG, and Athens? We're affordable, and we have great programs, why not promote them to those outside of Akron?
  16. FWIW, Akron is 75th in the Pomeroy preseason ratings http://kenpom.com/index.php?y=2016
  17. We live in a different world SeeTee. Most kids nowadays are not looking to go to the "local" school. At least the good ones. Good local students want to go to a ranked school and they don't care if that school is 2-5 hours away. We live in a global economy... you either compete with the sharks or get out of business. You add to that the fact that the area is not growing and the number of HS graduates is plummeting, and that makes your strategy a recipe for decreasing enrollment.
  18. Because Saban, Meyer, and Harbaugh are not interested in the job. Who do you have in mind that will do a better job?
  19. See 1981Grad... now you are stating facts and addressing actual issues (backed by real numbers). We don't like to do that with our basketball program. We prefer to close our eyes, drink cool aid, and talk about the sweet 16.
  20. We started this thread with Detroit so let's go back there: 2 non D1: Central State & UM-Dearborn 4 Home midmajors: Northeastern, Toledo, BGSU, UCF 3 Away midmajors: WKU, EMU, Oral Roberts 2 High majors away: Pitt and Vanderbilt Another example, Valparaiso: 2 non D1: IU-Kokomo, Trinity Christian 4 Home midmajors: IPFW, Iona, Belmont, Missouri state 4 Away midmajors: Ball state, Indiana State, Chicago State, Belmont 3 High majors away: Oregon, Oregon State, Rhode Island. P.S: This is not a typo, Valpo has Belmont both at home and away this year.
  21. How about this: You have 13 OOC games. The 6 games at home include one or two non D1 team and 4-5 H & A contracts with decent mid majors. You will have to return 4-5 games at mid majors leaving you room for 2-3 away games at high majors.
  22. Dear GoZips, Why do you feel that it is your responsibility to bully any one who is questioning KD or his decisions? Do you even read the posts that people write or do you just copy and paste the same rethoric that no high major wants to play Akron? We don't want a high major to come to Akron and no body is expecting that. All what I'm asking for is instead of buying a home game from the Coppin states of the world, why don't we schedule home and home games with decent mid majors? We did it with Middle Tenn State and Princeton and Detroit and Cleveland State and it was great. Why don't we fill our home schedule with these instead of the RPI killing, fan-base destroying pine bluff and Bethune Cookman? Also, your Rick Stansbury theory is nonsense but since zippyman23 dissected it so eloquently, I will not repeat the same ideas.
  23. I am getting really confused with all the conflicting "excuses" on why our home OOC games are made only of cream puffs year after year after year: 1 - No one wants to play us. Which means that we want and we are trying hard to bring decent opponents but they are turning us down. 2 - We don't want to schedule them (contradicting with #1) because we will have to give them a return trip which ties our hands and prevents us from accepting ESPN invites against good competition. 3 - We don't want tough competition (contradicting with #2) that puts to risk the 20-win streak that is so vital for our recruiting. 4 - We need the cream puffs to reward the loyal fans who enjoy watching those games!!!!!! This one contradicts with the comments I get from every fan I know except my dear and respected fellow fans Dave in Green and Gozips. So which one is it?
