  1. It is ridiculous that we don't have a bye this year and uber disappointing, but on the plus side, we should be able to destroy toledo and then take miami out.. And then we would "most likely" match up against BG again? Hah We own this tourney... Then it could be CAN NOT STATE again in the Championship... That's how I'm figuring this tournament will go... WE GET OUR REVENGE THIS YEAR. DISCOUNT NO ONE, DESTROY EVERYONE.ZIPS DON'T QUIT.
  2. Sorry GP1, I usually enjoy your football related comments but are you seriously questioning Linhart's manhood on the floor? That's a joke at best. That kid is as tough as they make em. And yes he did make a hard foul on a breakaway drive to the hoop in a hard, yet clean way, as well as some other basketball savvy plays throughout the game to keep us in it. The kid has intangibles and crazy mad work ethic and is the embodiment of Akron, not just the University, but the city as well. Just as Akron is a city that refuses to give up, and just as Akron continues to grow and innovate despite difficult circumstances, so does this team as led by their floor captain Nate Linhart. Just because he doesn't put up 20 points a night, although I believe he's about 50 points short of 1,000 if that means anything (which it surely should) doesn't mean he's some creampuff out on the floor. Basketball is about defense, sweat, and hustle, not about putting up 115 points per game... just ask the phoenix suns how that worked out and why they acquired Shaq.. It's about a balanced game with ferocity on both sides, and when you can create turnover points in excess as well as box out, thus giving up very few offensive rebounds (i.e. dominating inside defensively), you can typically, easily win the game. That's been my long held theory anyway... Take it for what it's worth.
  3. "Integrity of the game." I like that, and from what I understand about Singletipsy, from other posters, is that he has been suspended from the MAC Tourney by the league. Hopefully that is the case, because as we all know, we would see no discipline from Hippie Tech, because hey, anything goes at that mockery of a program. I also saw, and correct me if I'm wrong, Sullinger elbow Hitchens in the face when clearing some space out on a rebound in the first half, which resulted in no call. I didn't catch the Parks contact with Linhart but I really wouldn't doubt it. I do almost find it comical that Hippie Tech threw cheap shots the entire game and yet the Zips refrained and acted with total class and yet they end up winning the game somehow, when it was ours to win. We're easily a better team, but just let every opportunity in the end of the second half slip through our hands. There were clearly some no calls in this game that should have went the Zips way... But there really are no excuses. We should have had this one. It makes me very proud of our program that we play with integrity and demonstrate our character by playing the game the right way in spite of the fact that others, like Geno's thugs, trash it up with infantile and inexcusable actions. I just wish we could have proven this afternoon that you can play the game the right way and still hand it to the other team regardless of their infantile, petty actions. Well, as a result we've got four more to go before we can show the nation that we're on our way to finally arriving and doing it the right way... Here's to the true Blue and Gold in the MAC Tourney. And as I understand it...ZIPS DON'T QUIT!P.S. Am I the only one that thinks Brandon Parks is the Fugliest looking player in college basketball? I mean, what gutter in Ravenna did you crawl out of?...
  4. There is no such thing as an "Akron Curse". Get that notion out of your head... We had this game up until the last 90 seconds or so... We lost because of our failure to execute in the end and a lucky shot by some scrub who hadn't really done a thing all damned game. I think the killer instinct idea is right on though. Akron needs that killer instinct and needs to believe they are going to win and just execute accordingly. Just play to your potential and keep the confidence level high in the tournament and beyond. Just as LeBron goes by the statement that the Cavs are a no excuses team, Akron is the same. We make our own destiny, and have earned every victory and every loss on our record. The outcome is what it is, although we really gave one away today. I really just think the failure to close out comes down to inexperience and some self doubt down the stretch. Just believe in what you do and give it everything you have and the wins will follow. Keep the Positive Mental Attitude in the Tourney Zips, because 'The Nation' is right here with you.
  5. As of right now, I have no idea where anybody will be sitting at the Q. I do know that each of the 12 teams usually gets their own slice of the seats. If you're buying tickets from the JAR ticket office, you'll end up in UA's allotted section. If you're buying them when you get the the Q, I'm not sure how that works. Thanks uakronkid.. I know in past years Rowdies typically moved around to a different seating section per each round of the tourney, so I'm thinking I'll either have to play it by ear basically or just get tix at the JAR and represent the Blue and Gold in the ol' alumni way (although i really do want to get rowdy!) .. Any knowledge as to whether or not the Rowdies are still doing the Hard Rock pre game thing this year at tower city? (as last year was uber cool..) Well, either way I may just have to stop in and have a good luck pre-game toast!
  6. i agree they were pathetic....what was with the clapping and stomping during OUR free throws too?Yeah, as a recent UA alum and former Rowdy I was kind of salty about the stomping during our free throws.. It seemed like a lot of those kids were just there to be there and really had no interest in the game. Or perhaps no understanding of the game? I initially thought they were OU fans when they were screaming during Akron's freethrow attempts.. I mean, I'm not trying to judge anyone's "fanhood" or anything, and I think that it's great that all of those kids came out to the game, but how many would have been there if it weren't greek night? Well anyway, here's hoping those kids enjoyed the win, and hopefully some enjoyed it enough to return for most, if not all, of the home games next season...Also, I was wondering if there is any word about Rowdy/MAC Tourney info as it might pertain to alumni Rowdies, as I and basically all of my Rowdy comrades have since graduated and i no longer have my finger on the pulse of Akron's driving force... i.e. Is there a way to get tickets in the rowdies section somehow, or are alumni basically on their own? This is my first semester as an alumni so you'll have to excuse my cluelessness on this one...
  7. Blog space sin: You didn't post a link.Last week the projected winner of the MAC (UB) was setup with Florida State. I think that would be a great match up for us. Anyone else have a desired matchup for the NCAA Tourney provided we get there?Florida State would be great for rematch, and I'm sure they haven't forgotten about us. If we're going to be somewhere around a 14 seed, we'll end up playing one of the top 15 teams in the country, which means that Brett McKnight will turn into LeBron James again.Brett having jersey number 23 a coincidence? I think not.. Anyway, a rematch against Florida State, but this time in the NCAAs would be absolutely awesome. Here's to not looking past BG though Get it done in the MAC and then hopefully we can make some noise in the post season! Final Four here we come.. LETS GO ZIPS!!
  8. BIG WIN BABY!! 2 MAC East opponents down... 3 to go... whew... I don't know if I can handle this.LETS GO ZIPS!!
  9. And hopefully our Zippers can dismantle Buffalo like they should be able to. After all, they are Canadian... Max Boudreau, product of Montreal Quebec, need I say more? Their prime minister has no desire to find out what the "McKnightmare" is all about (sorry, i mean, abooot)... oh poor canadians...LETS GO ZIPS!!
  10. sounds a bit Can't statish to meDue to the high population of hippies in Colorado you might have something.Ugh... I know it's a joke but seriously... (www.enviroakron.org) UA students also care about socio-environmental relationships. As well we should, living in the post industrial midwest, and caring about the effects that industry and all of its after effects have on us and many of our families as citizens of Akron and Northeast Ohio. I honestly hope that the Info adopts a policy that respects an environmentally responsible business model, much as Colorado has done. It would benefit us all without it making any person a "hippie" or a Can't state alumnus (ugh) as well as being an economically sound way of approaching business..Go Zips! And slaughter the sweaters 1/10/09!
  11. Whew.. Wow what a game. Way to come back and never give up. This team definitely showed some grit tonight. Hope Carroll and C. McKnight didn't sustain too severe of injuries. Now back to the JAR for a big game against the Flyers. I know I'm amped up!Lets go Zips!
  12. Hahaha. Well played sir. Well played. Okay, so maybe I over exaggerated just a little with that post. That was an extremely frustrating game.
  13. one game we're talking about how great the special teams are (block pat for 2pt safety?) and now they have a bad game and we're calling for the coach's job. we really are pathetic fans.Wholly agreed. Those that want to go fire JD can go eat it. Boo hoo. Sorry crybabies but he really is a decent coach. Lets play the game of reality. We are a mediocre team in a mid major conference.... what is it that you think we're going to do? Play for a BCS title? Let's get real. JD is the best coach that Akron has ever seen in it's MAC era and we're lucky to have him. This team really does have a lot of potential despite our "crap" record. I know the past two games were uber disappointing but welcome to life in the MAC. Sorry, but that's just the way it goes... Hats off to OU. Way to find motivation to win a game that meant nothing to you when it meant everything to us. Go cats.
  14. 2 observations about tonights game:1. Brett McKnight doesn't care who he's going up against, this guy is a gamer. 23 points against a #6 ranked team? This kid is the real deal and will put it in from anywhere.2. Nik Cvetinovic: Congratulations, I think you've solidified your position as a starter on this team. This guy knows how to ball and play with some serious energy.Okay, I guess I lied about having only two observations...3. Puck Fittsburgh4. This team is going to cause some hurt in the very near future, I know we got it handed to us tonight but for pitt's sake I hope they don't end up seeing us again in the tourney... These kids are gamers with tremendous upside and with a coach like KD to learn from this experience they will be prepared for the rest of the season... 5. I feel bad for Urbana6. See you at the JAR on Tuesday for the beatdown.
  15. Nope, no minutes for Swiech tonight. I am looking forward to seeing him play though. Maybe he's the ace up KD's sleeve for the Pitt game? Eh? Eh?
  16. Just got back from the game. Nice win Zips! This team is looking better every game. Hopefully this trend continues. And yes, Cventinovic looked pretty good in his start. If this game was any indication, he looks quite capable of being a very solid player for the next few years. The team made a much better showing tonight defensively, hopefully this trend continues also. Roberts was probably the player of the game tonight. Linhart was stellar on defense and hit a few nice shots, especially that drive to the basket with the foul. Also a pretty nice game for the McKnights. Now to slay the dragon that is Pitt. Bring it on. Hopefully it turns out to be a good one. I'm really interested to see how this team performs against one of the best teams in the nation.
  17. Good guys by 3 touchdowns. Take it to the bank.
  18. I have to agree with the great GP1 that the offense came up short. They had to punch it in, plain and simple. But I don't think you can completely let the defense off the hook here. BG put up 23 points on us in the fourth quarter, while we were able to put up a mere 12 the entire second half. BG's offense had their way with us in the fourth quarter. I know its a cliche but, you win as a team just as you lose as a team. This loss isn't attributable to one side of the ball or a single player as some posters are already calling for Jacq's head. That's just rubbish, if anything I think that kid is on the verge of being a pretty solid player and you can't go throwing in an unproven player like Rodgers when you've got a guy with game experience who is capable of making the plays. Yeah, he might have a couple of things to work on, but so does the entire team. I really am starting to think some Zips fans do have this cleveland browns complex, "Oh my God we lost, let's clean house, starting with the quarterback. Brady! Brady!" God I hate Browns fans. Even though sadly I am one.
  19. Christ, this team could write a book on how to lose games they should have won. I can't say BG deserved to win this one, but Akron definitely deserved to lose it. I feel sick right now. Will we win a home game this year?
  20. Go Charlie! It looked like he was finding his rhythm vs. the Chargers in preseason. Hopefully he has a good showing against the Packers and takes advantage of his chance to start again.
  21. I think that was actually the first researched preview that I've seen for this upcoming season. And I've gotta say I'm already so jacked up for Akron basketball this year. The HOUSE IS COMING DOWN January 24th when we exact our sweet revenge. Hah, I'm basically jumping out of my chair here.
  22. THE REASON IS THAT WE DON'T WIN GAMES. I know that probably sounds petty, but if this team wants fans they are going to have to win plain and simple. I'm not going to say there weren't some positive aspects to today's game b/c there definitely were, but losing efforts in a rain soaked relic 7 or so plus miles from campus by a non bcs school does not draw crowds. It saddens me as much as you I'm sure, and yes, I was at the bowl pounding away w/ everyone else, but what I did take away from today is that there were a TON of new faces in the student section in the rain... things are on the verge of changing for the bigtime at UA... I was there in the early/mid Frye years initially and in comparison this student section is totally ready to explode... and the Rowdies play a big part in that, but I really do think the excitement on campus is essentially unparalelled @ this point in UA history. If this team starts winning some big games the support is gonna be there and it will DEFINITELY be there next season at the new stadium.
  23. Dude, get off Jacq's back. He played a pretty decent game. It is absolutely true that all of the interceptions with the exception of one, were the fault of a tipped ball. As for having a fumble recovered for a touchdown, ask Todd Boeckman how that one feels (see: OSU v. OU). Those kinds of things do happen, especially given the rain and slippery conditions. The Zips moved the ball down the field with relative ease, especially in the first half, but unfortunately once they got near the red zone the receivers couldn't get a handle on the ball. Sometimes that's just the way the ball bounces. The problem is not Chris Jacquemain, nor is it the Zips offense. Honestly, I think Chris has been doing a great job this year. I'm actually very optimistic about this offense, those guys can REALLY play, and mark my words they will make quite a few teams pay this year. Your beef is with the defense and the fact is, this defense is really banged up. They're thin if not non-existent on the D-line and a good part of the secondary seems totally out of place. There seems to be no true leadership on the defensive side of the ball. We had leaders with Mackey and Corner in previous years, those guys knew how to take charge. IMO somebody on that side of the ball needs to step up and put the game on his shoulders. I'm sure I could write another page about the play of the defense but I'm not going to. I'm going to trust the coaching staff on that one, they know what they're doing, whether you'd like to believe that one or not. My only other gripe would be RACER'S inability to understand that after the period of each sentence comes two spaces and a capital letter in the first word of each sentence. Seriously man, not to sound like jerk, but I can't take a person's writing seriously if they don't take it seriously as well.... In the words of the immortal Brad Hamilton: "Learn it, know it, live it."
  24. Seems as though the link I provided isn't working correctly. Here is the link to the Zips ESPN page which shows the game on ESPN classic http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/clubhouse?teamId=2006 as well as the link to what should be the current television schedule on ESPN (of course you'll have to fast forward a little over a weeks time)... http://sports.espn.go.com/espntv/espnGuide
