  1. Can't go wrong with the ARoo ... UA's all time best logo! Thanks for all of these posts @TennZip Awesome to read about the talent Jen and her staff are bringing to Akron.
  2. Ryan Kingsford is a great player and a tremendous guy. Sad for us that he transferred, but it seems to be working out for him. Happy to see him doing well and I also hope to see LMU advance to the 2023 College Cup. It's a tough road, but it can be done as we saw our 2018 Zips do. Coaching and mentality. Humility and confidence; not arrogance and cockiness.
  3. Sorry to see that former Zip Marco Micaletto won’t be in Columbus next season but happy to see the Crew and Crew2 fans giving him the appreciation he earned.
  4. Happy to see former Zip Ryan Kingsford getting to the Round of 16 with his team, Loyola Marymount, after upsetting #13 seed UCLA. LMU hosts JMU, who upset #4 seed Georgetown as @TennZip previously mentioned. Also happy to see former Zip Ryan Combe get to the Round of 16 with his team, the Vermont Catamounts, who upset #12 seed UCF. Unfortunately, I don't think Ryan has played any minutes in †his NCAAT. Vermont travels to Morgantown to face #5 seed WVU.
  5. I have zero interest in scheduling WMU, BUGS (, or NIU) in men’s soccer. However, given WMU’s recent NCAAT history, I wouldn’t refer to them as a “lesser” opponent.
  6. https://www.columbuscrew.com/news/columbus-crew-sign-captain-darlington-nagbe-to-multiyear-contract-extension ...With Akron from 2008-2010, Nagbe recorded 19 goals and 19 assists in 73 appearances and led the program to its first NCAA Division I Men's Soccer championship in 2010, as well as three consecutive Mid-American Conference (MAC) Tournament titles (2008, 2009 and 2010). The midfielder’s collegiate accolades include the Hermann Trophy in 2010 – the nation’s highest individual honor recognizing the National Player of the Year as determined by the voting of Division I coaches who are members of United Soccer Coaches – National Soccer Coaches Association of America Player of the Year (2010); MAC Player of the Year (2010); MAC Newcomer of the Year (2008); NSCAA All-America First Team (2010) and Second Team (2009) honors; and three All-MAC First-Team selections (2008, 2009 and 2010). ...
  7. I think they LOVE former Zip Darlington Nagbe in Columbus!!! 😉😀😃😄🤩 Contract extension and all the tweets are well-deserved. Great player! Great man! Happy to see this for Darlington and his family.
  8. ...“It’s hard to put into words what Darlington means to this club. He is a proven winner and difference-maker who has consistently shown why he is one of the most highly respected players in MLS for his leadership, character, and his performance on the pitch and how he carries himself off it,” said President & General Manager Tim Bezbatchenko. ... ...“Playing in my home state the past four years and winning an MLS Cup with the Crew has been really special, and it’s a blessing to continue my career in Columbus, both for me and my family,” said Nagbe. ...
  9. Congratulations to former Zips Ryan Kingsford (Loyola Marymount), Nick Scott (Charlotte), and Ryan Combe (Vermont) whose teams all advanced to the 2nd round of the 2023 NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament.
  10. Agree with your points @zippy-claws but I'd like to add that I have concern with academy bias...potentially overlooking very talented high school players because they didn't play for an academy. I've been surprised with recent successes of some of the local high schools that the Zips haven't had any recent recruits from them ... Medina and St Ignatius specifically come to mind. Perhaps players on Akron's radar chose to go elsewhere and / or there weren't others on our radar; I don't know the details. Just saying I'm surprised.
  11. amazing. lol. My point was I was surprised the committee wasn’t using RPI as I expected them to do then and the end of the season. In the past Gaucho Dan RPI has aligned very closely to NCAA RPI. I’ve not looked to see if the NCAA has posted their RPI so I don’t know how it compares this year. I trust that instead of arguing this post season’s selections our coaches are hard at work to determine what changes and improvements need to be made for next season. I’m looking forward to recruiting announcements and Spring games.
  12. I respectfully disagree. You're pointing out specific games that support your argument when the overall RPI calculation / rank account for all games and have Pitt at 30 and Akron at 41. Interesting how you were chiding me not too long ago because I didn't put much stock in the committee's top 16 / polls at the time. Now, you're complaining about the committee because they didn't go your way. LOL
  13. THANK YOU. RPI, which includes strength of schedule, among other factors and therefore is not as biased as polls and a team's fans supports Pitt and Kentucky making the NCAAT ahead of our Zips. I wanted our team in the NCAAT as much as anyone, but they were not snubbed or overlooked. Their resume was not good enough.
  14. I'm definitely optimistic for 2024 but contend that some poor habits need to be overcome. In addition to our 2024 recruits, I'm looking forward to seeing Caleb Borneo and Nathan Ferguson in action with our team. Edit: It is very disappointing to be talking about Zips Men's Soccer's next season this early in November.
  15. Probably need to stop the over reliance on backward passing and monkeying around inside our own penalty area. Build forward, connecting through the midfield to creative wingers and forwards who more often than not get into the other team's penalty area taking shots and second chance rebounds.
  16. Actually Georgetown and Xavier tied 0-0 with Xavier prevailing 5-4 in the PK shootout. https://goxavier.com/sports/mens-soccer/schedule/2023
  17. I'm very happy for our players who received well-deserved recognition from the Big East Conference. I missed more games this year than usual due to other priorities, but appreciate all of our players and proud to support all of them as best I can. Regardless of how this season ends, thanks to all for being Zips; proud to know all by name (even if my recall doesn't work as rapidly as I wish these days). Thanks to all for taking time to talk from time to time.
