I like to see Nate Johnson shooting 15 foot jumpers off the dribble.  He gets great height on his jumper and fades away from the basket.  Very difficult to defend.  They tripple teams Freeman in the first half and he passed to the open wing but we could not hit a 3 pointer in the beginning of the game.  We did not score in the first 5 minutes.  Great game.  We follow this up with Heidelberg?  Rediculous!!!

Yes, he reminds me of Deji a little bit of red shirt, and then growth every year to his game.  I could see him being all Mac his senior year, maybe next year as well?

Yes I remember playing Miami-Hamilton back in my WC golf and basketball days 20ish years ago.  I just checked out their schedule and didn’t see Wayne on there and it looks like indoor sports were discontinued after COVID as they repurposed the gym space.  That’s unfortunate.  https://wayne.uakron.edu/news-media/news-details.dot?newsId=cec62259-fef1-4d31-934b-7360f871e543

They did finish second in the nation in whatever “D2” tournament this was that also had Kent state Tusc.  But really these guys won’t even be on par with “good” Wooster teams we have had in the past and still be by 50.  https://basketball.theuscaa.com/2023_Championships/MD2_-_Final.pdf

Miami-Hamilton, you ask?  Yes!  They are a branch of Miami of Ohio, of course.  They aren't D2! They aren't D3!, SO HELP ME GOD, THEY AREN'T EVEN NAIA! No, the "Harriers" are a part of something called the USCAA! They play in a conference called the Ohio Regional Campus Conference, which they share with our own dearly beloved Wayne College branch.

Ohio HS state finals are Saturday at Canal Park. Waynedale (Apple Creek - near Wooster) won a title last year and is back, playing their Div. III semifinal Friday at 4:00, which I understand can be streamed. Some potential backyard talent for the Zips(?)

Barkman is committed to OU but the Nicaraguan southpaw Otto Solorzano is a Junior this year and I haven’t seen that he has committed to play anywhere so maybe he will want to stay close to his family in Northeast Ohio.

    NOT MAC RELATED:

Did anyone watch the NIT semifinals last night? It was a pair of awesome games. It's a shame they were in Vegas instead of MSG. They definitely lacked the luster the NIT semis usually have. Anyway, North Texas of the C-USA took down Wisconsin in a slow-paced grind-it-out classic. Wisconsin led 54-46 with 9 minutes to go, and didn't score again. UNT won 56-54. They play a bit like Akron, I enjoy watching them quite a bit.

The next game featured our old friend Aziz Bandaogo and Utah Valley against yet another C-USA team in UAB. UAB had the upper hand most of the evening, but Aziz helped keep it close. UVU got it to OT, but couldn't get the stops they needed. UAB onto the NIT final to make it a C-USA party.

The C-USA now represents both teams playing in the NIT championship and a national semifinalist in FAU. This is some wild stuff. The NIT title game is on Thursday night, and of course the Final Four games on Saturday. I love seeing mid-majors do what they're doing right now. The only thing that could make it better is if we were in on the party.

And Aziz’s coach just got hired by Cal.  Wondering if he would be looking to transfer again even though he would need to sit a year?

Like to know how this works. Garvin decide to leave on his own?  I would have thought he knew he would get playing time. Unless we already have a replacement guard and he was aware.

I assume maybe he wanted to be starting PG and Groce told him that would be Tavari or transfer guard and his minutes would be 5-15 and he wants a bigger role.

  7. So does this pretty much guarantee our Thursday game will be no earlier than 4:00 if we win against Ravenna and then 6:30 if we lose?  The 1 seed game at 11 and then assume 2.5 hours between games (2 hours for game and 30 minute warm ups), 4 seed at 1:30, 2 seed at 4:00 and then 3 seed at 6:30.  If any games go to OT then those times will be pushed back.

AT Boise, too. I don't know who Boise returned from last season, but they won the MWC, which has Nevada, San Diego State, etc.

First of all, I 100% agree our win over South Dakota State is going to look really good. Second of all, props to South Dakota State for their schedule. Their first 4 games all had significant postseasons last year...

Akron (NCAA Tournament near upset over UCLA)

Boise (Won MWC, 8 seed in NCAAs, lost to #9 Seed Memphis)

St. Bonnie (Lost to Xavier in the NIT Semifinals)

    #10 Arkansas (Elite Eight)

Their 5th opponent is Stephen F Austin, which has had a ton of success in recent years and despite not making the NCAA or NIT last year, still posted a 22-10 record).

After that, they have Valpo and James Madison, before going on the road to KSUcks and Bama (back to back days - 12/2 & 12/3).

If they tread water through their OOC schedule, they could run the table in conference, as it's pretty weak. This will probably prove to be the OOC win we've needed to boost our seeding resume.

I believe Toledos leading scorer in their first game was a transfer from Boise but we know they will implode come tournament time.

  9. I missed one that I just saw in @Illini Zippost about Groce's first year.

Eric Parrish went from Akron (2017-18) then to Bosssier Parish Community College (2018-2019) where he averaged 18 points, 9 boards and 6 assists and was the #4 Junior College prospect when he committed to Nevada for the the 2019-2020 season but was only there in the fall of 2019 before signing with to UTSA in December 2019 (played 2020-2021 season) before closing out his career at Grambling (2021-2022).  So on 5 rosters in his college career!

Eric Parrish finished (assuming) out his career at Grambling State this year starting in 9 of the 20 games he played in averaging about 5 points and 5 rebounds a game.  I thought he was an All-MAC capable player 2 years down the road but injuries must have derailed his playing career.

Speaking of gushing over the Zips the color guy must have had drugs on that pizza he was eating. He said Ali was 1st or 2nd team all-MAC. He never once touched on his 10-15 seconds of dribble-dribble while backing his defender into the paint only to take a horrible shot or turn it over. What was he watching?

Ali will be second team next year and first team his senior year so he isn't wrong 😁

  11. I still think we turn it around and win the tourney in Cleveland.  As others have mentioned, we have been in these last 3 games and lost it in the end.  I have faith that Groce and the players will be able to fix things when it is win or go home in March.  He did that OU and I believe this team is capable of doing it this year.

  12. An update with a little over a month left in the regular season

    • TDM - at Florida Gulf Coast has started 22 games averaging 20 PPG on 40% shooting with almost 6 assists a game and they are 14-9
    • Camron Reece - at NAIA Talladega College Started 8 of 20 games, listed as a Junior, 6 ppg, 5.5 RB for a 20-3 team
    • Tre Edwards is at UMBC but tore his Achilles and won't play this year
    • Jermaine Marshall is at Samford averaging 12 points and 8 rebounds on 47% starting all but 1 game for the 14-8 team
    • Taylor Currie is at D2 Harding College averaging 17 points and 8 boards on 55% shooting for a team that is 4-14 starting all but 1 game
    • Jaden Sayles is at Stony Brook averaging 5 points and 3.5 boards shooting 53%, starting 9 games averaging 14 minutes per for a team with a  13-8 record
    • Torey Patton who I missed in my original post is  averaging 14 points on 45% shooting to go with 7 boards and 4 assists starting 19 games and leading the 15-5 Vikings in minutes
    • Virshon Cotton another one I missed is at New Mexico State playing in 8 of 21 games averaging 4 points in 10 minutes a game for the 18-3 aggies

    Definitely!

Im at EJ Thomas for The Akron Nutcracker. (It’s intermission.) They worked Zippy into the show. He/she killed the Mouse King! Lol.  It got a HUGE applause from this sold out crowd so it gave me goosebumps! 😂😂

My wife is so disappointed we missed it with family here all weekend.
