  1. Went to the press conference. Thought it was great. Had a good time. Sat in Section 1B and I too saw Zeke in the crowd. So we are sitting there waiting and who comes in and sits right behind us? Patrick Nicely. He wanted to sit down closer, but he didn't have the purple wrist band. Anyway it was a good time for a spur of the moment decision to attend. When the presentation was over everybody got up and was leaving. We stood around and tried to watch the Q & A session but it was hard to hear. So after the first few questions we decided to leave. Just as we were ready to join the line heading down the steps, the elevator opened so we rode down. Doors opened and we see that we are now in the corridor for the Cavaliers exiting to their cars. So it is pretty weird. We are looking at fans lined up against barricades asking for autographs while we walk out with Jamario Moon and Jawad Williams. Then we stand outside for a while and watch them all leave. Delonte West was having a good time with the crowd, video recording the event. It was a nice afternoon at my favorite University. LeBron said growing up that it was his dream to put Akron, Ohio on the map. Days like today bring attention to the city and the University and I love it.
  2. 1. C-c-c-cold. 2. Nice scamper down the sideline by Allen. That was about 1/6 the distance of being the 2009 leading rusher. Amazing but true. 3. PN7 looked anything but sharp. Hopefully was because he was sick. 4. Disappointed we didn't get to see Matt Rodgers play. 5. Ditto for Broderick Alexander. 6. Almondo is a stud. 7. Thought Bryan Wagner would be in on more tackles, but kudos to the offense line. They BLOCKED him very effectively. 8. There were signs of a pass rush! 9. C-c-c-cold. 10. The siren before Coach I came on the big screen should be played after touchdowns. 11. Nice poster! 12. Interesting comment by my wife. . . "The team shop STILL not being open is an embarrassment to the University. 13. Lots of work to be done before Syracuse. I know, "No duh!" 14. One thing remains the same as ever.
  3. I suppose I probably am being a little silly, (since we have been at this crossroads before and know how it turned out in the past), for talking about a 3-1 start that is based on essentially nothing but the hope that the new coaching staff is going to be better than the previous one. Wow, it's easy to be optimistic in March!
  4. Well, excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me! I guess when a hypothetical question is asked, I should just reply with the "Zips suck/MAC sucks" mantra. That seems not to be too silly for a lot of you.
  5. Here goes... I started to go down though the schedule and make my predictions, but stopped because I was starting to sound a little silly. To me, it all boils down to one thing when talking about the 2010 season. Do you think the Zips will be a better team in '10 than they were in '09. If you think the best 2 players on the team last year were freshmen, I think they will be better. If you think last year's coaching was atrocious, I think they will be better. If you doubt that there will be a season-altering development like the CJ situation this year, I think they will be better. If the Zips are a better team than last year I think we are in for a treat in 2010. Looking back on last season, the Indiana, Buffalo, Ohio and Bowling Green games were very winnable. I believe a better coached team wins those games last year. If we win 3 out of 4 of those games, the Zips finish 6-6 last year, which would have everyone with high hopes for 2010, right? But, the Zips didn't win those games. We finished 3-9. I know it is hard for even the most die-hard fan to believe the Zips are going to be a threat for the MAC East crown, but I think it's possible. And I hope you don't think I am a Pollyana for thinking so. The non-conference schedule is critical, I believe. Syracuse is beatable. Their rushing game is apt to not be as good as it was last year. We beat them at their place in '08. The Info should be rockin. I think we win! Gardner-Webb. Can you see the Zips losing? Me neither. 2-0. Kentucky. Although it would be great, I don't see us ready to invade a SEC school stadium and bring back the win. I hope for a competitive game, though. 2-1. Indiana does not have a good football team. We owe them one. We should have beat them last year. I hate to talk about ifs and buts. But if CJ wasn't dismissed from the team the Zips would have beat them last year. We go into Bloomington and win! 3-1. The Zips are 3-1 going into the MAC schedule. How big does that make the Northern Illinois game at home on 10/2?
  6. After being a lurker for a while, I decided to register today and become a contributing member to ZN. I have a few comments/questions.1. Good Christmas for me. Got a Margaritaville grill and authentic Zips jersey.2. Anybody know if there is a Zips 10X10 canopy available for purchase? I have checked everywhere I can think of and Akron is not available. Hell, I even found a Liberty University canopy. I know the University had one made promoting gozips.com. It's even pictured in the centerfold of the latest Akron magazine. Anybody with connections know if an alumnus could order one of these from where ever they were purchased? If all else fails, I am going to have one custom made for me. I figure if I go retro, I can have one made with the varsity A fairly simply.3. I realize it is a little early, but is anyone planning to go to the Kentucky and/or Indiana game(s)? If so, I would like to coordinate with you so we could convoy/tailgate together.4. Can't wait for the spring game.
