  1. All the excitement is for nothing. CBS Boston says UMASS joining the MAC. The Mid Atlantic Conference ”BOSTON -- UMass is heading back to the MAC. The Mid-Atlantic Conference board voted Monday to add the University of Massachusetts as a full member and the school is expected to accept, according to multiple reports.” Mass joins MAC
  2. Like football and all Akron sports -- have to play and beat some name schools-- and more than once --- cuz once is a fluke. Then Joe Akron might look at it and say --"did Akron Football/basketball just really beat Michigan (we were right there a few years ago). And then say, I gotta see this and be part of it." NIU did it for a little while -- Toledo does it.. How we get there from the abysmal hole we started in football is beyond me though. In Basketball, we compete with the names once in a while-- and occasionally take a game from a lower tier P5.
  3. NCAA Pres Prosed Changes "Baker proposed creating a new subdivision for schools willing to set aside extra money for their athletes." "the NCAA intends to still have all Division I schools compete for the same titles -- including in March Madness tournaments. The College Football Playoff would have to decide whether a new divide within FBS football changes who has access to football's postseason."
  4. What are Zips fans thankful for this year?? I am thankful the season is over tomorrow. It’s an annual tradition marking the beginning of Christmas holiday in my house. 🎄
  5. Think App State can fill their seats now? We had that same chance and, ironically, it was also Michigan. We could have shocked the football world that day. And road the coattails of that win just like App State has done. Now they do it to ranked teams every few seasons. Joe and Co will need to shock the world a couple of times. Only that will get local fans attention and interest. And butts in seats. MAC wins mean nothing to most local fans.
  6. 5 years $2.5 million Can't read the article. $500k per year.
  7. 247 Sports: Mixed Reviews from National Media "Opinions on the move were divided, to say the least. Most think Akron did a great job of reeling in Moorhead, who has several years of high-level coaching experience. "
  8. I found the perspective funny on these headlines: Everyone is claiming him!! Ex Penn State Coach to Akron Former SEC Coach Leading Search Oregon OC Joe Moorhead Reportedly Expected to Be Named Akron Head Coach
  9. Bleacher Report "Perhaps Moorhead is looking to rebuild his reputation as a head coach to put himself in the frame for a Power Five gig in a few years. Winning 10 games with the Zips would almost certainly help him achieve that aim. The Pittsburgh native may instead be looking to emulate Frank Solich. Solich was fired by Nebraska in 2003 despite a 58-19 record and landed on his feet at Ohio in 2005. He remained with the Mid-American Conference program for 16 years as the Bobcats became a fixture in bowl season. While every coach wants to win championships, having long-term job security and becoming a school legend at a program outside the blue bloods can provide a different type of fulfillment. Considering the state of Akron, Moorhead probably won't yield immediate returns even if he targets reinforcements through the transfer portal. But he should have plenty of time to get the Zips back to relevancy."
  10. Moorhead to Akron Makes No Sense -- says DK Sports "Hiring Moorhead would seem to be a home run for the Zips. But given his track record, it's hard to believe Moorhead didn't have better options available than this job. Moorhead is from Pittsburgh, so perhaps he just wanted to get back closer to home. And who knows what will happen with Oregon head coach Mario Cristobal, who could wind up at Oklahoma or somewhere else. Maybe Moorhead wanted some kind of assurance given Cristobal's situation."
  11. And this is what we call Circular reporting. And how our so-called independent media works now. 1. Take a rumor tweeted out by 1 person. 2. Keep citing it over and over on different sites 3. Now add the work "Sources Say" to the citation. Boom -- full on press.. used to be you needed at least 2 sources to corroborate the facts to run a story-- not anymore... a guy in his basement with a smart phone and twitter account can affect us all. My favorite is when the sites start citing each other as the source.. that is priceless.
  12. Coaching Candidates Triple Option in Akron? FORMER GEORGIA TECH HC PAUL JOHNSON Johnson is retired and going on 65 years old, but the last time Akron took a chance on an older coach in Bowden, it worked out. Going out and getting an experienced guy who can better handle the struggles at Akron might be in its best interest. At Georgia Southern, Navy, and Georgia Tech, Johnson compiled a 189-100 career record. Among those 189 wins is six conference championships and two FCS national championships. He was able to form this success by running the triple option. That is a scheme that can be difficult to prepare for in just one week. Akron is clearly operating at a talent deficiency. It will have to get creative if it wants to break recent trends and start winning football games. In that case, running the triple option could be the perfect place to start. Getting Johnson to come out of retirement might be difficult, especially without a lot of money to throw around.
