  1. http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/college-soccer-articles/mens-ncaa-tournament:-second-round-preview_aid41028 I think that top drawer soccer writer J.R. Esklison predicted a 2-0 win for the zips in the first round. In the link above, the same writer makes his choices for the 16 games on Sunday.
  2. http://www.idsnews.com/article/2016/11/iu-mens-soccer-to-host-akron-in-ncaa-tournament The Zips started the season in the top 10 but have since fallen out of the rankings altogether. If there is anything to relate the two sides, it is that IU senior Phil Fives spent two seasons in Akron playing for the Zips. “I’m super excited,” Fives said on the chance to play his former team. “They’re a great program — a lot of good talent there. We were actually talking before the selection that it might end up like this. This is a great opportunity to show the nation what we got and
step up.”
  3. never too early to be checking out the weather high of 73 tomorrow in Bloomingon Saturday...a change...high of 43 with winds of 21 mph Sunday...game day....high of 44 ...low of 25 in the morning.... sunny.... 0% chance of rain 9 mph wind go, Zips
  4. I do appreciate Marla covering the zips and giving them some good publicity. I am very happy that the team is playing so well. I would have preferred that her article focus on the current players rather than focusing on one event that occurred in September. Stuart, Sam, and Danilo have all missed significant time this year with injuries so it is not fair to blame one student athlete for the growing pains that this team has experienced. I hope that the zips have a great win today but I am also very appreciative of how hard that Victor Souto competed for the zips and for everything that Victor has done for Akron soccer and the university over the last 4 years.
  5. http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/college-soccer-articles/ncaa-tournament:-mens-first-round-preview_aid41016 predictions from a top drawer soccer writer
  6. I hope that they are all correct. I lived and worked in Bloomington, IN for 8.5 years when I was much younger. Have been to many Akron at Indiana soccer games. Those were of course in the Jerry Yeagley era so the zips are due for some payback.
  7. many photos and quotes from Coach and the captains and to show my poor knowledge of soccer, it says that goncalo is playing midfield in 3-4-3....yesterday, I said that he was doing well as a right DB what ever works.....works....for me....Goncalo and Nick are doing well in the new formation http://www.ohio.com/sports/zips/ua-men-s-soccer-zips-will-host-villanova-in-first-round-of-ncaa-tournament-1.727118
  8. http://www.cleveland.com/sports/college/index.ssf/2016/11/akron_zips_host_villanova_in_n.html#incart_river_index Plain Dealer (gasp ! shock ! awe !) runs a small article on Akron soccer
  9. Larry Williams needs to go back to Marquette. Huge difference between basketball and soccer at the Univ. of Akron.
  10. Zips will host Villanova on thursday night Villanova was 10-7-3 and is 42 in RPI winner plays at Indiana on sunday Indiana was 15 in rpi....but was seeded #7 overall #10 charlotte would be round of 16 opponent if seeds hold #2 Wake Forest is the top seed in this pod of 12 teams go, zips
  11. I have sympathy for those who have tickets to both. There are plenty of soccer season ticket holders who already bought tickets for all 3 post season games... their cost is sunk...just as much as the basketball season ticket holders Some people are going to have to choose. This is the NCAA tournament. Scheduling the match after the normal working day will allow the zips the best chance to get the best crowd that they can get. Heck, Keith Dambrot is famous for how much that he travels to zips soccer road matches. I hate that he will have to miss the match. As I said in my first note in this topic, zips soccer is the best sports program on the campus and elicits the most pride from its fan base.. This program deserves first class night time attendance.
  12. this is the NCAA tournament....Soccer deserves respect for that achievement Season ticket holders would be horribly inconvenienced if the game were not at 7 or 7;30 the Grand Canyon game was a disaster.....for attendance.... Zips need their loyal fan base in the stands at 7 or 7'30...go, zips
  13. http://www.collegesoccernews.com/index.php/awards/team-of-the-week/1003-college-soccer-news-national-team-of-the-week-week-ending-november-13-2016 Nick Hinds gets some well deserved recognition
  14. from the buffalo head coach Head coach Stu Riddle: "We saw why Akron was ranked as the #1 side in the preseason polls today, they were exceptional and controlled the first half. I was proud of the second half showing from our lads and felt when we scored that we might find our way back into the match but it wasn't to be. The 8 seniors have been outstanding during their four years here and i can't thank them enough for everything they have given our program."
  15. Jonathan Lewis also could have been honored.... tremendous improvement at a new position for Nick Hinds Plantation, Florida is my favorite city in florida.
  16. also, Harvard...is currently 22 in rpi... they , similar to u-mass lowell....are not eligible for ncaa's as their season was cancelled to sexual harassment... if zips stay at 27 in rpi....they would be 25th highest ranked RPI team in ncaa 48 team draw ncaa chooses top 16 teams to get first round byes they then select next best 16 to host thursday night...and 33 to 48th ranked teams hit the road there are not 32 eliglible ncaa soccer teams that are better than the zips.... strongly disagree with Chris
  17. strongly disagree that thursday night game will be at Indiana or Notre Dame http://rpiupdatemenssoccer.blogspot.com/search/label/RPI Rank Indiana and Notre Dame are 13 and 15 in current rpi...they both should get a top 16 seed and be off until sunday Michigan State is 19 in current rpi....they will play thursday night but should face the 2nd or 3rd weakest team in 48 team field Akron is currently 27 in rpi....I think U Mass Lowell is not eligible for ncaa (they have been around #4 or rpi) due to not being div. 1 for 4 years... in theory, teams 17-32 in rpi should host a thursday night game... NCAA has ignored RPI many times...but I will be disappointed if the zips do not host a home game. I just hope that they can avoid having to play Maryland in 2nd round. Maryland is 18-0-2 and has won every game since Sept. 9. they are clear #1 team

  19. Akron 2 Buffalo 1 2 goals by Nick Hinds assists by Sam and Jonathan 25-4 in shots 9-2 in shots on goal 15-0 in corner kicks This season has its ups and downs....much credit to the resilient team... They took care of business this weekend. Congratulations Tremendous improvement during the season by Jonathan Lewis and Nick Hinds I also have to give a lot of credit to Coach Embick and the coaching staff. Moving Nick Hinds from left DB to the midfield made a huge difference for this team and moving Goncalo Soares from a holding mid position to right def. back was also a very underrated move. Looking forward to the draw tomorrow and see what challenges await this team. Tremendous job by the best sports team on the akron campus.
  20. It was outstanding that so many starters only had to play 45 to 55 minutes last night. it was great that Jared had the confidence to rest Stuart and Sam at the start of the 2nd half and that their replacements (Ezana and Marcel) both delivered goals in the 2nd half. Goncalo Soares may not be the fastest soccer player but he delivered a perfect pass on the 2nd half header goal
