  1. Old Virshon is now at New Mexico State. https://nmstatesports.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/virshon-cotton/8465
  2. Aren't we about due for a "my sister's best friend's cousin" saw a guy at the Akron Canton Airport that looked a lot like "insert candidate's name here."
  3. He lost his right one on the 2005 Motor City Bowl. He's quite the risk taker!
  4. You certainly don't want them to be hasty, but the sooner they get someone in the position the better. With Arth they had that makeup South Carolina game then took their time and it really put the program behind. The new guy needs to get in there, start establishing relationships with the viable players on the roster (all 4 of them!) and get out on the recruiting trail. This could also be another big transfer portal year with all of the coach movement and he needs to start accessing that pool of talent along with the JUCO talent. He needs to be a John Groce, a guy who figures out a away to keep the program viable while building it back up.
  5. 6-5 senior guard Taevion Kinsey leads the Herd at 19.6 ppg. 6-8 sophomore forward Obina Anochile-Killen is a factor inside grabbing nearly 9 rebounds a game with 27 blocks in 5 games. He had 10 blocks against Jackson State. 6-3 junior guard Taylor Andrew averages 7.4 assists per game while scoring 10 ppg. With the Herd's ability to score (82.8) and the Zips scoring issues I am afraid this one could be another loss.
  6. With the disdain the committee has for MAC schools they could probably go undefeated up until the MAC championship, lose it and be relegated to the NIT! As such, I have put less importance on OOC games.

  8. The Thundering Herd comes to the JAR next Wednesday to face the 3-3 Zips. The Herd is 4-1 heading into a game against Indiana this Saturday. The Herd is one of my favorite regular OOC games. The games are generally competitive and D'Antoni's up tempo offense is always fun to watch. Here's hoping some home cooking helps the Zips shooting.
  9. We get a couple of huge letdowns in every Zips basketball season. Let's just hope we used ours up in Florida. On the bright side, the defense has been top notch. Marshall and their high pace D'Antoni offense should be a real test next week.
  10. Groce's teams are always point guard dependent. Against Wheeling, the coach never figured out that going under the pick and giving him a cushion as a result was a bad idea. He's not going to get that break against better coaches and teams and he and Groce need to figure it out.
  11. Post game interview- Groce thinks they played better today but didn't capitalize on opportunities. Says they just didn't make enough shots. Lots of focus on Brian Trimble and how he'll come around. Happy with the defense.
  12. The Zips take on Evansville at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday in the game to determine the prestigious 7th place in the Gulf Coast Showcase. Here's hoping that the Zips can come home with at least one win from this abominable road trip.
  13. Not likely. UWGB didn't have football. Before that he was at some very small schools.
  14. App State comes in at 2-3 with wins over ETSU and William Peace (new one to me) and losses to Charlotte, Iona and Delaware. They are led by 6-3 senior guard Adrian Delph who scores 19.6 ppg. Last year they were 17-12 overall and 7-8 in the Sun Belt Conference. They were projected to finish fourth in the conference coaches preseason poll out of 12 teams.
  15. The Zips have one or two of these a year. Deep breaths folks. In reality, none of these games matter down the line as we all know only winning the MAC tourney will get them in the tournament.
  16. By 20. 31% FG% 6% 3FG% 53% FT% 4 assists
  17. Groce post-game comments- Fordham dominated for 40 minutes. Zips soft on both ends of the floor. It would have been a shame if we won that game and we didn't deserve to win. Proud of that last group in- Dawson and Wynn and the guys battled. No excuses, just didn't play well. Didn't play very smart. Have to play and coach better tomorrow at 1:30.
  18. On a positive note the loss brings an early game tomorrow which some of us will get to miss due to work. Fordham was projected to finish 14th (out of 14 teams) in the A-10 this year. In last year's OOC schedule, the Zips had a competitive game against a top A-10 team, St. Bonaventure. This year...
