He turned a runt of a running back, Brett Biggs, into one of the most impactful players (at least for one season) in Zips history.

I just don't know what contact with football JD has had since leaving Akron. Maybe someone could help me out with that. The game has changed a lot since then.

Looks like his last football gig was at Colorado in 2012. Thats according to Wiki. Take it for what you think its worth. I just remember he brought in Brett(Bowling Ball) Biggs and they used him very effectively along with Getsy at QB. Getsy didn't run. JD also got Dennis Kennedy as a transfer I believe from Ohio State(fact check me). I also believe once they got Kennedy running north/south he had 1000 yards his senior year? Again, check me. With JD on the staff I think they have plenty of ability on the offensive coaching side. Got a feeling Moorehead wouldn't have brought JD in if he thought he was too out of touch with the game. Maybe, just maybe, Moorehead will use the running game more effectively than in the past. Gonna depend on who they decide is the QB.

    Out - QB/OC (Fess)

    Out - WR (Gilbertson)

    Out - ST (Tucker)

    In - QB (Shuster)

    In - WR (Brookhart)

    In - ST (Matviko)

All spots are filled except no OC listed. Maybe JoeMo is officially taking that back over? Also odd that Housewright does not have an active twitter account (unless I missed it).

Edit: Maybe Housewright will be listed as a co-position coach and OC? From the outside looking in it doesn’t seem like this is happening.

I will be curious to see how much influence JD might have on this offense and the play calling.

17 transfers out so far (not including a few walk-ons who did not see the field). End of season starters are WR Jasaiah Gathings, S Corey Thomas, OL Nate Williams, CB Tyson Durant. The rest are depth players with varying range of potential.

The only incoming portal addition to date (not including JUCO) is OL Laurence Seymore who is already on campus.

At the moment, 13 HS prospects and 1 JUCO are publicly committed.

WMU has the most portal departures with 18, but Ohio has been hit the hardest in terms of quality.

Today marks one week the portal has been open and already over 100 MAC players have entered. Full MAC list can be seen here.

Hope not. But, am afraid Zips might be in worse shape going into next season after all th portal dust settles.

What went Right and what went Wrong?

    Quarterback:

Unbeknownst to much of the fanbase, DJI had offseason shoulder surgery and was not the same QB coming into 2023. He finally settled into a groove against Indiana, but even during that game it was DJI’s running ability that stood out as opposed to what would he considered a prolific passing day. JU was put in a tough position and expected to do more than he was capable of with the exception of 3 games (Kent, EMU, and Ohio). In those 3 games, the offense used more max protects in the passing game and relied heavily on the run. JU was 58 of 92 (63%) for 624 yards and 2 touchdowns versus 1 interception during that span. The biggest difference in those 3 games was the limited amount of turnovers as he still completed around 60% the rest of the season. Bullock simply was not ready and it seemed his accuracy issues stemmed from processing too slowly. He has all the tools physically to be a premier QB in the MAC, but he is not where he needs to be mentally at this point.

    Running Back:

Lorenzo Lingard was as good as advertised and criminally underused during the first half of the season. This year’s offense needed a big back who could break tackles and potentially provide an explosive play at any given time. Lingard was that back. Despite the lack of touches earlier in the season, Lingard still finished close to 1,000 yards total (rushing and receiving combined). Drake Anderson was underutilized to some extent as well. The better offenses figure out ways to get players like Anderson the ball on the perimeter and in space, whether that be moved into the slot, screens, sweeps, etc. Something we did not do much of this year.

    Wide Receiver:

Adams never seemed quite right and it was later confirmed he attempted to play through an injury. Losing one of, if not the best, WR in the MAC will hurt any offense. Gathings really came into his own and if he can keep his emotions in check, should continue to develop and become a legitimate weapon in the future. George was unable to improve on his 2022 season statistically, but a lot of that had to do with the issues at QB. Same could be said about Caleb Anderson, just to a lesser extent. Walker and Golden provided solid options from the slot, while Adrian Norton seems like a star in the making and will be exciting to watch in the coming years.

    Tight End:

It was thought TJ Banks would take a larger role in the offense and provide a threat across the middle of the field. Although Banks was solid, it was Newell who really surprised. Newell continued to improve as the year progressed and he has the potential to be as good as any TE in the MAC. This year’s offense was most effective when Banks and Newell were on the field at the same time.

    Offensive Line:

Although the OL showed improvement by end of year and gave up less sacks than 2022, they were still subpar as a unit. Blanchard, Kindred, and K. Davis missed substantial time due to injuries. All started at points in the season. Chambers was shifted from the right side and ended up receiving the most starts at LT. Frank nailed down LG and is now out of eligibility. T. Williams was inconsistent at C, which is to be expected from a redshirt freshman. The RG spot saw a number of different faces before Lyons became the starter in the last few games. Nate Williams was moved back to RT and played really well the last 3 games. This unit had more depth this year, but unfortunately not enough quality depth to lose starters for significant time. The 2022 and 2023 classes brought in a substantial upgrade in athleticism. Unfortunately, outside of T. Williams (2022 freshman) and Frank (transfer portal), we didn’t get to see much of that improved athleticism this season.

    Interior DL:

There was some concern coming into the year with Holt and Harper moving on. Terray Jones stepped in and was just as good as either player. He was also the only pass rush threat on the interior. Lavea was a load against the run and provided a solid combo with Jones. Robinson never lived up to his 3 star rating coming out of high school, yet became a key contributor as a backup. Freshman Marcus Moore looks to be another star in the making and should only get better from here. JUCO Tyler Carter (I believe he should be listed as a redshirt senior, not redshirt sophomore) did not contribute much and his claim to fame as a Zip will be getting ejected on back to back penalties with under a minute to go to finish out the season. Kiawan Murphy did not show much and will need to improve in the offseason to at least provide depth going into 2024.

    Edge:

Ryan Johnson was the only for sure starter heading into the season and he transferred out after 4 games. CJ Nunnally burst onto the scene from the JUCO ranks and was one of the MAC leaders in sacks and tackles for loss. It’s not easy to find a lineman that is equally strong against the run and pass rush, but Nunnally is. LaJoshua Jackson and Antonio Smith were also JUCOs who flashed some pass rush ability in backup roles. JUCO Kabbash Richards was hurt for a portion of the season and did not contribute much. Bennett Adler came on as the year progressed and became more than just a run stuffer. He displayed a bull rush against Ohio, exhibiting some pass rush ability.

    Linebacker:

Despite losing Bubba before the year began, linebacker proved to be the strongest position on defense. Former JUCO Antavious Fish flashed his hard hitting prowess in 2022 and the lightbulb came on in 2023. He and sophomore Bryan McCoy finished the year with just under 100 total tackles a piece. Transfer Shammond Cooper proved to be the best blitzer of the bunch and graded out the highest amongst the LBs. Jaharon Griffin moved into a bigger role with the injury to Andrew Behm and may not relinquish that role going into 2024.

    Cornerback:

While not considered a top unit in the MAC, this group was much improved from 2022. Durant again made it difficult for anyone to beat out him out and ended up starting 10 games. Judson Tallandier had an up and down season in pass coverage, but was excellent in run support. Joey Hunter and Golden-Nelson had their moments and also missed substantial time with injuries. Cam Threatt did not play much of a role and may be moving on as it sounds like he already has his degree.

    Safety:

I expected this unit to take a significant leap and become one of the better units in the MAC. That did not happen, yet this group was still solid. Nate Thompson was inconsistent, but did finish the season strongly. Although KJ Martin does not have the stats to back up, I thought he had a better year than 2022. Corey Thomas was the biggest surprise and proved to be extremely versatile. Thomas also finished the year as the highest rated player on defense. Lewis was one of the reasons why the defense was improved in 2023 as he was a major factor at the nickel position.

    Special Teams:

The punting unit was strong and Dante Jackson was an upgrade over the previous punter. Kickoff and kickoff return were also solid. Field goal kicking was a disappointment until the final few games and part of that has to be placed on the coaching staff. It’s difficult for any kicker to be replaced from game to game and in some cases kick to kick. There has to be some consistency with the unit.

    Coaching:

The offensive play-calling was maddening for most of the season. As much as the staff deserves credit for last year, they also deserve just as much criticism this year. The majority of the season it felt like round pegs were being forced into square holes and the staff did not adapt to their personnel until the end of the season. On the other hand, the defense was much better than some probably realize as they were forced into bad positions time after time. Tim Tibesar and his staff did an excellent job on that side of the ball.

    Recruiting and Wrap-up:

I still 100% believe this staff is recruiting at a high level and had the best class in the MAC this past offseason. I also 100% believe the offensive staff badly underperformed with the talent at hand as mentioned above. I was wrong in that 2023 would be the turnaround year. There were 7 games decided by one score. This program is close to turning the corner and should have already done it. I expect another strong recruiting class will be brought in, which will finally give the program several strong classes stacked. That being the case, 2024 must be the turnaround year. Talent gap will no longer be an excuse and it probably shouldn’t have been an excuse this year outside of Kentucky, Miami, and Ohio. There was enough talent in place, with good coaching, to make a bowl game. Portal opens in December and I think our last commitment came in June, so we have about 7 months of roster transition ahead.

Is Nunnally going to be a senior in2024? Or is he done. They have him listed as a Jr. right now.

If our program was even close to the level of Toledo's I'd be absolutely stoked about facing OSUcks.  As it is, we're almost certainly in for a nationally televised shellacking which will only serve to make Joe Akron's eyes roll even harder at the already nearly unthinkable prospect of actually supporting the Zippers.  I already suffer enough workplace abuse from the absurdity of actually being a fan of our local team.  I can only shudder when I imagine the abuse I'm going to be taking next August.  In August of this year I actually had a co-worker ask me, "Are they still called the Zips?"  And this is in Akron!!! 😡😡😡

'25 schedule looks spot on.  Shockingly, it looks like it was actually put together by an intelligent adult who has a clue as to the currently inglorious state of our football program.  However, this is UA Athletics, so they could certainly still screw it up... maybe they'll add Alabama or Georgia? 😂

This year's schedule was also perfect for a potential Top 25 ranking but we couldn't come anywhere close to capitalizing.

    Ugh.

Here are two things we should do.

    1. We need to work overtime to renew our rivalry with YSU.  We need rivalry games because we desperately need meaningful games.  Rivaly games are a way to (artificially) manufacture meaningful games... even if the games aren't meaningful outside of the two schools' fanbases.  Look at how excited we were - and how Akron twitter blew up! - after we beat lowly KSUcks this year.  YSU is another natural rival who would bring a large contingent of fans to the Info to make for a potentially great environment.  Bring back the Steel Tire Trophy!

Make the annual Akron-Youngstown State Steel Tire Trophy game our opening game every year!  An annual tradition!  (I know, I know... YSU doesn't want to play in Akron every year... to renew the rivalry they also want us to make alternating trips to Youngstown... or something along those lines... that's deserving of its own conversation).

    2. Make KSUcks our first MAC game every year.

    a) Both teams are still in contention for the MAC East at that point

    b) midweek MACtion has not yet started laying waste to MAC football attendance, and

    c) the weather is still nice.

a+b+c=a perfect storm for a fun game day environment at the Info.

    Rocket science, I know.

These are two seemingly obviousno brainer moves.  Moves which are so obvious that I simply can't imagine fully functioning adults in the UA Athletics department haven't been fighting tooth-and-nail for these for years.  So, for some reason it's probably easier said than done.  It does seem that ESPN has us by the balls. Do we have any say in our conference scheduling?  At all?  Or are we 100% ESPN's b*tch?

Akron, and other schools have been playing 'sacrifice' games for years and years. In Akron's case those big $$$ have not translated into sustained succes on the field or a rise in fan support.. So in the case of footballwhere has it gotten us?

I still feel we were just a mediocre QB away from 5, maybe even 6 wins.

Again, I feel it is very difficult to analyze for next season until the dust settles over the winter.  My concern is that there may be some key players who transfer out and potential recruits are going to hesitate coming here due to the condition of the program. Also, if Pittsburgh tries to go after Moorehead potential recruits are going to hesitate to come here if they think Moorehead might bail. I have no idea whether he will or not. Some key players are out of eligibility and some who played didn't exhibit the ability to play at this level.

As far as the QB is concerned looks like Moorehead has for now made Bullock the front runner. We will see how that plays out. And, as others have pointed out, coaching on the offensive side of the ball left a lot to be desired all too often. Does that change? How? The defense as a group did an acceptable job generally with minimal support from the offense.

Before this season even though I wasn't an Irons fan, I thought the program might get to 5-6 wins. Man that was way too optimistic.

2024 is either a turnaround or off the cliff season.

You shouldn't renew them. Joe Akron hasn't asked for much for a long time. The University is stealing money from Joe Akron who just wants to see a good football game and have a nice day at a game. If you feel the urge to go, go stand around and wait for someone to give you a free ticket. You can basically sit just about anywhere you want.

My advice to anyone who wants to financially support the University is to find a scholarship that gives money directly to needy students and donate.

I have had season tix since the early 90's. My wife and I go back and forth every year about renew or not. I renewd just to support the program. But, I think next season we will just buy GA's when we want to go. The athletic department lets non season ticket holders sit in our reserve section anyway. Bad way to run a railroad if you are in the college athletics business.

And, cut the crap with the sacrifice games. They have been doing it for years with no appreciable positive results on the field.

Sometimes sacrifices must be made in the short term to get where you want to be in life. Short of finding some other donors like Matt Kaulig, this is the only way to get the funds needed. Akron is not exactly brimming with deep pocketed corporate donors. Dr Miller has spent his entire tenure trying to get the finances of UA under control. He has made significant progress with more to come. Guthrie has done the same in the athletic department. Change in large entities is hard and sometimes people don't like the changes. See the complaints on here about paying for parking or the menu at the club level. Sometimes, you can't have your cake and eat it too!

But what about the football program which has been bad for years?

Toledo fans for a while were bragging about high tailing to the Big East around '05 '06 if I remember correctly. Similarily, NIU fans were "rumored to be joining the Big 12"

Aren't they sure glad they didn't? Exhibit A: Cincinatti, something I think all of us saw coming. UC is 3-8 and Akron is 2-9.

Another thing, who would honestly take Toledo? Let's be real. Big Ten? Big Twelve even? Doubtful at best.

American Conference. Comparing Cincy's record given its competition to Akron's record given its competition is well, the old apples and oranges thing. When was the last time Akron beat Toledo?

  10. 13 hours ago, GP1 said:

Let's look at what conference leaders do:

    Toledo 2024

    Duquesne

    Mississippi State

    UMass

    WKU

    MIAMI 2024

    Northwestern

    Cincinnati

    Notre Dame

    Umass

There is a good chance Toledo could be 3-1 ooc.  Maybe if things go right at MSU 4-0.

If things go right for Miami, they also could be 3-1, but 2-2 is more likely.

Toledo is a cash strapped state school like Akron. The difference is leadership. Theirs is better than ours as it relates to the football program.

It's so disheartening what they did today. This athletic department is a sink hole of misery. Throw money at the school, but throwing it at the athletic department is a waste of money at this point. There are hundreds of scholarships that go out every year. Throw some money at those. At least you will feel appreciated when you do. The Athletic Department is just crapping all over you.

I have always wondered why a team like Toledo hasn't moved to a better conference. That program is consistently the best football program in the MAC. They could compete in a higher level conference once they got established.

Personally, I hate the 'sacrifice' games for all the reasons people have already stated. Playing on TV against an Ohio State only reaffirms what people think about the Akron program. Its not any good. Thats bad pub. If the Akron athletic department can't field a football program that can

consistently be competetive even in the MAC on and off the field then its time to get out of the business. I am tired of watching Akron start 1-3 or 0-4 every damn season. They can't win enough games in the MAC to even become bowl eligible much less win the MAC. Gonna be interesting to see what happens in the off season with player movement and coaching changes.

I have a major concern. Better play calling wouldn't have resulted in more wins. Maybe less fan agony, but not more wins. My concern is, with less than a handful of games remaining in Joe's second season, the future QB is nowhere to be seen. Maybe he's not on the team, but I don't see much in recruiting that's promising. Maybe he is on the team, but not on the field to start the season, or yet.I don't know. It's concerning.

John Wolford is a good example because his first season was Clawson's first season. However, Charlie Frye could also be a good example. Lee Owens decided to live or die with Frye. He only won four games in each of his first two seasons while taking a beating.  In fact, his winning percentage went down in his second season when college football went to 12 games. His last two seasons the Zips had winning records.

In every organization, people have to solve problems. If a manager has 5 direct reports, each of those five people have five problems to solve totaling 25 problems. The manager can't take his five problems and add the other 25 problems of his employees for a total of 30 problems. Smaller problems have to be solved down the trough.

As far as I can tell, one of Joe's five problems during last off season was to find the future QB to be put on the field this season, and I respectfully submit he failed at that. I don't think he should be fired, but he needs to get this problem off his desk. Clearing problems is extremely important for organizations.

Didn't Charlie play because of an injury to a starter? Please refresh my memory. Still  have to wonder if game planning/play calling had been adjusted in some games a couple of results might have been different. In any event, if Moorehead's preferred QB is not on the roster now will he be starting over next season with a QB who hasn't played in the system?

  12. 20 hours ago, GP1 said:

You could sell them on an offense that would complete passes down field if only they had that star recruit behind center.

You could sell the star recruit on the necessary parts for success being in place except for him.

Some things still trouble me going forward. As a number on this site have noted throughout, the offensive play calling hasn't seemed to put the offensive talent at hand in favorable positions to win on a regular basis. For example if, as many have said you don't have a QB who can execute(no pun intended) the offensive system you want to run then you have to adjust the system to the talent you have at that position. Has that happened often enough this season?

I still fear thatsome good talent might choose to leave via the Portal given what is happening. And, as before, I fear that potential transfers are going to look at the program and question coming here. Every program wants a 'decent' QB. That guy isn't going to drop out of the sky. And, if the offensive coaches can't 'coach 'em up' once he gets here or can't adapt to that kid's limitations what happens?

Maybe this defense can 'win' one more game this season. The D deserves it. Maybe EMU?

Gone were the max protect and 2 TE sets we ran last week. Back to the regular 11 and 10 personnel. In turn, the run game was an afterthought and the QBs were often pressured. Miami was credited with 20 total pressures, including 6 sacks.

Whale of a game by the defense. Over and over they were asked to stand tall with poor field position and answered the call. Amos is a tough RB to keep contained and the defense did a great job with the exception of a few plays. They were also able to consistently put pressure on Smith and limit him in both rushing and passing.

Not a game I expected to win at this point in the season, but there were opportunities that we couldn’t capitalize on. The two overturned turnover calls also hurt.

We’ve underutilized Lingard almost all season and now we await his status after leaving the game with an injury.

Definitely saw some frustration boiling over with the offense last night. That was first time I’ve seen multiple players display it throughout the game.

One positive is that a few players have a shot at making an All-MAC team by season’s end - Nunnally, T. Jones, McCoy, Fish, Lewis. Maybe Gathings can sneak in on the offensive side depending on his final performances.

    QB - Undercuffler (Bullock)

    RB - Lingard (Anderson) (Kellom)

    WR - Gathings (Anderson)

    WR - George (Norton)

    WR - Walker (Golden)

    TE - Banks (Newell)

    LT - Chambers (Blanchard)

    LG - Frank

    C - T. Williams (Georges)

    RG - Lyons

    RT - N. Williams (Kindred)

    DE - Nunnally (L. Jackson)

    DT - Lavea (Moore)

    DT - T. Jones (Robinson)

    DE - Adler (A. Smith)

    LB - Fish (Griffin)

    LB - Cooper (McCoy)

    NB - Lewis

    CB - Tallandier (Golden-Nelson)

    CB - Durant

    S - N. Thompson

    S - C. Thomas (D. Johnson)

We were wondering if the offensive coaches had learned anything from last week. Apparently, they decided to ignore the lessons. Obviously Miami is much better than KSU. So why would Moorehead et. al expose their QB the way they did last night. Ran the ball 19 times. But, threw it 42 times!? The O-line couldn't hold up against the Miami pass rush. But, lets throw 42 times, Lindgard had 11 carries for 43 yards. Not bad. No other runs by a running back? The play calling does not fit the talent at hand.

Even I have to start questioning the ability of the offensive staff at this point. Losing my belief that Moorehead was the right hire. Oregon doesn't seem to be missing him too much do they?

On the other side, the D got gouged on the ground but only gave up 19 points.

Miami is talented, big, strong, physical, and very well rested. This is one of the toughest opponents on the schedule, even without Gabbert. They went into Athens a week and a half ago and just bullied the Bobcats off the field, scoring 30 unanswered points at one point.

It would have been cool to play a much more beatable opponent after last week, but beggars can't be choosers. Akron can still pick up a win, maybe two, to close out the year, but I wouldn't expect it to come tomorrow night. With that said, it would be great to see them ride the wave a little bit and make things competitive. I've thought all year that one win would catapult the team forward. Well, I didn't think it would take almost two months to get that win. Indiana, Buffalo, CMU, etc. etc. Last year, we saw very strong efforts the last three games of the season that gave us hope for this year. I'm going to try to not let these last few weeks of results give me hope either way for next year as I've learned my lesson, but wouldn't it be nice to see these guys make the most out of their last few weeks together? It's a shame they aren't playing for a bowl. No fault of anyone but themselves, I just miss playing "meaningful" November games that have stakes for us, as opposed to just playing spoiler.

    Go Zips

Don't see how Akron competes with Miami. I am hoping for 1 more win this season. Want to see Moorehead continue to alter his play calling to take some heat off Undercuffler and let him try to do something like what he did against KSU, manage a game. Moorehead has to try to keep his offense on the field longer. That means stay with Lingard et al even if it isn't producing much early. If Moorehead reverts, the D will be gassed and the game out of hand. Lets see if the coaches have learned anything

Certainly not what we were hoping for. At least the D made sisgnificant improvement.

Yep. If Undercuffler's coming out party means doing what he did last Wednesday I'm sure we could all roll with it. I'll bet the coaches could also. Lets see if Moorehead has some more patience. If he tries to throw it all over the field against Miami it could be ugly.

That was the version of JU I thought we would see this season. Limited in some of the throws he can make, but serviceable enough to get the job done. It was nice to see what the offense could have been this year, especially during the 4th quarter. I’m not sure when the last time was that we had a 100 yard rusher, two 100 yard receivers, and no turnovers.

The inability to gain a yard running the ball during the series in the 3rd quarter could have been devastating. The 4th down run checked into the blitz was mind boggling.

Gotta give credit to the staff for continuing to go back to Lingard. The more chances he receives, the more likely he is to break one. He had his most touches all season with 22 rushing attempts and 2 receptions. Also have to give credit to the staff for adjusting this week and playing the majority of the game out of 12 personnel (2 TEs). That’s something we haven’t seen much of this year.

Kent’s lack of talented depth eventually caught up to them. Our DL dominated the 4th quarter and the OL was finally able to lean in the run game and also give JU more time in pass pro.

The receivers made plays, but Gathings still talks too much. We were fortunate on a few occasions flags weren’t thrown.

Terray Jones probably had his best game of the season and the personal foul call (which of course ended up in a score) was weak.

Freshman Marcus Moore was also really good. He did not start, but played a starter amount of snaps with 35 total.

    Lama Lavea did not play.

Nice job by Wiley making the extra points and field goal. For the incessant amount of talk throughout the broadcast (I usually don’t listen) about lack of a kicker, he came up 100%. That’s the best way to stamp out that kind of talk.

Tough final 3 games, but who knows, maybe this win turns out to be the spark that lights the fire.

Now wish I had stayed for the whole thing! Offensively, some things really stuck out. Obviously, Lingard is a helluva tough runner. He got better the later in the game and the more he carried. 20+ times I believe. They actually started to wear down KSU's D. Hope Moorehead remembers. Undercuffler, hopefully had a coming out party. He started throwing the ball with more decisiveness and confidence as the game went on. He was hitting some slants and getting the ball out on the sideline patterns. That and the run game kept the rush off of him and let him see the field. No picks. They actually kinda ran a screen also. Hopefully he can ride that for the next 3 games. Lets let him play it out and see what happens. Confidence! Also helps that his receivers were finally getting some separation in the secondary.

The D came up big when it had to. I still really like Nunnally.

Finally, Moorehead seemed to finally be willing keep going with the run when it was working. That the O stayed on the field and actually score helped the D keep the game somewhat under control.

Three tough games coming. Lets see how much everybody has learned.

    Some numbers:

The Zips are 11th in the MAC in average points scored per game; PCCC is 12th

The Zips are 9th in points surrendered per game; PCCC is 12th

The Zips are 10th in offensive yards per game; PCCC is 12th

The Zips are 6th in defensive yards surrendered; PCCC is 8th

The Zips are 11th in fan engagement and interest; PCCC is 12th

These are the numbers from conference play, not overall.  Looks like it is lining up to be a real slugfest.

If the D can tighten up against the run, which has exposed it the last few weeks Akron has a shot. BUT, KSU is still running that fire alarm offense that has killed Akron the last few years. The D coaches need to have those guys ready to stay on the field and not get caught in substitutions.

I have forgotten about Jankowski.  He came in with great potential.  He just might be the spark we need.  I'm now looking for one of our 3 untested QB's to start.

I can see the logic of starting another QB. I can also see logic in not starting a new one. You might see something that surprises. But, another Akron QB might get beat up and have his confidence destroyed. Those guys haven't been getting reps all season unless one of them did this week. Would be nice to beat KSU but I think its probably going to be up to the D to do it. Is Moorehead going to change at this point in the season? Not likely. You might get 1 win. But, with 3 games left against better opponents not sure that does much for momentum into 2024. How frustrating!
